This curriculum project provides instructional activities and materials to be used in teaching decomposition and flowcharting skills to students in grades 5-7. It is indicated and supported by research that the use of a variety of activities geared toward problem solving are of great value to students who will make use of decomposition and flowcharting. This project is specifically designed for teachers in grades 5-7 who wish to prepare their students for programming activities on the microcomputer. The criteria for selection of activities and materials are included. This project includes activities categorized under one of the following headings: sequencing activities, selecting information activities, flowcharting activities, and working with computer activities. Finally, the materials and activities used in this project are listed by source so that teachers might find other references that could be helpful in teaching decomposition and flowcharting to students in grades 5-7.

Vacation Exchange Management : Investigating the Vacation Exchange Process at Karlstad Municipality Through Document Analysis, Interviews, and Task Analysis to Elicit System Requirements

The study aims to investigate the current process for vacation exchange at Karlstad municipality to elicit system requirements for a future system. The investigation includes creating an understanding of the vacation exchange process, the roles involved, and their tasks performed in the process. Further, the limitations, the information used, and the decisions made in the vacation exchange process were also a part of the investigation. The investigation of the vacation exchange process is performed by analyzing an internal document from Karlstad municipality and interviews conducted with the three roles involved in the process. The interviews are transcribed, summarized, and modeled by process models using 2c8 Modeling Tool to explain the vacation exchange process, inputs, and outputs, and the tasks each role performs. The findings showed three specific categories in the vacation exchange process that should be improved when a future system is designed and developed to support the process. The three found categories were: lack of information, information flow, and distribution of responsibilities. In conclusion, the future system should have a function to notify the roles involved. Information used in the vacation exchange process should be gathered and easily accessible in the future system. Further, the future system should support communication between the roles involved in the vacation exchange process, as well as include functions for back-up, digital sending of documents, and facilitate rarely performed tasks. Lastly, the future system should define the responsibilities for each role to balance the tasks each role performs in the process.

DECO: A Dataset of Annotated Spreadsheets for Layout and Table Recognition

This paper presents DECO (Dresden Enron COrpus), a dataset of spreadsheet files, annotated on the basis of layout and contents. It comprises of 1,165 files, extracted from the Enron corpus. Three different annotators (judges) assigned layout roles (e.g., Header, Data, and Notes) to non-empty cells and marked the borders of tables. Files that do not contain tables were flagged using categories such as Template, Form, and Report. Subsequently, a thorough analysis is performed to uncover the characteristics of the overall dataset and specific annotations. The results are discussed in this paper, providing several takeaways for future works. Furthermore, this work describes in detail the annotation methodology, going through the individual steps. The dataset, methodology, and tools are made publicly available, so that they can be adopted for further studies. Coverage Manifold Estimation in Cellular Networks via Conditional GANs

<p dir="ltr">This research introduces an approach utilizing a novel conditional generative adversarial network (cGAN) tailored specifically for the prediction of cellular network coverage. In comparison to state-of-the-art method convolutional neural networks (CNNs), our cGAN model offers a significant improvement by translating base station locations within any Region-of-Interest (RoI) into precise coverage probability values within a designated region-of-evaluation (RoE). </p><p dir="ltr">By leveraging base station location data from diverse geographical and infrastructural landscapes spanning regions like India, the USA, Germany, and Brazil, our model demonstrates superior predictive performance compared to existing CNN-based approaches. Notably, the prediction error, as quantified by the L1 norm, is reduced by two orders of magnitude in comparison to state-of-the-art CNN models.</p><p dir="ltr">Furthermore, the coverage manifolds generated by our cGAN model closely resemble those produced by conventional simulation methods, indicating a substantial advancement in both prediction accuracy and visual fidelity. This achievement underscores the potential of cGANs in enhancing the precision and reliability of cellular network performance prediction, offering promising implications for optimizing network planning and deployment strategies.</p>

Usability refers to the study and measurement of the quality of human-computer interaction. Internet-based banking is a task-oriented, goal-directed, Web-based, E-commerce application where users access and manipulate bank accounts remotely through a Web browser interface. The examination of the usability of this interaction through the distributed medium of the Internet formed the research basis. The aims of the research are to review the application of general usability principles and properties to Internet-based banking, examine existing usability guidelines for hypermedia and Web design, and apply these during a structured evaluation of local and international online banking facilities. The research instrument is a combination of a checklist-based and heuristic evaluation, and is preceded by a task analysis. Three research questions are addressed and solutions suggested. These are related to improving Internet banking usability, finding the best approach for measuring this, and creating an awareness that Web usability is important. / Science / M.Sc. La question du contexte occupe une place centrale dans l’observation et l'étude de tout phénomène. Associée à la recherche d’information, la notion de contexte est de plus en plus mobilisée dans les domaines des sciences de l’information, de l’ingénierie des connaissances, des sciences cognitives et de l’informatique. En effet, le sens d'une expression linguistique, la lecture d’un document la stratégie mise en œuvre dans l’activité de recherche d’information, le raisonnement adopté dans l’opération de classement d’un document, le choix d’avoir recours à tel dispositif, varient fortement d'un contexte à l'autre. Mais que faut-il entendre exactement par contexte ? Comment le définir ? Le contexte est-il assimilable à la notion de situation ? À la notion d'usage ? Voici quelques-unes des questions qui sont traitées dans ce travail, qui cherche à appréhender l’environnement informationnel d’un groupe professionnel donné : les ingénieurs-chercheurs d’une équipe d’EDF-R&D. Pour ce faire, nous cherchons à cartographier cet environnement, à le comprendre, en interrogeant notamment la construction du sens en contexte. Notre contribution cherche ainsi à éclairer l’environnement informationnel de ce groupe d’acteurs et propose quelques axes de réflexion pour accompagner la construction d’une démarche instrumentée de gestion de l’information en entreprise. Ce travail associe différents acteurs (chercheurs et ingénieurs) et participe à un projet de recherche appliquée (ANR MIIPA-Doc). Il accompagne ainsi la conception d’une solution logicielle qui explore l’approche de la classification et de la navigation par facettes, et s’inscrit dans la mouvance des outils collaboratifs, dont le principe consiste à impliquer l’acteur dans les opérations de classification et de "marquage" des documents qu’il produit, manipule et classe dans le cadre de ses activités professionnelles. / Assuming that workplace significantly affects information seeking and information management patterns,this study explores accessibility and management of information sources among a group of research engineers.The study explores how these engineers, who belong to the R&D entity of a major energy group,require, search and manage information sources in given professional contexts. Furthermore, it strives toidentify the contextual factors that shape information practices. This empirical study is based on a qualitativeapproach: following exploratory inquiries, semi-structured interviews and observations were conducted witha small group of actors in their proper workplace. Our integration within the team facilitated the participantobservation stance. The study provides an analytic cartography of the various components of the organizationaland informational environments whereby the activities and tasks of the above mentioned actors takeplace. A wide range of practices has been identified via interviews but also through the activities and workrhythms observed. An appreciative framework has been developed to analyze the practices of access to informationproduced and used in professional contexts; it underlines the contextual factors that may becomedriving dimensions to support an innovative perspective on information management structures. The studyattempts to provide an innovative approach for the analysis of information practices in contexts, orientedtoward the design of a facetted and collaborative information management system.
