Use of ‘Habit’ is not a habit in understanding individual technology adoption: A review of UTAUT2 based empirical studies

Tamilmani, Kuttimani, Rana, Nripendra P., Dwivedi, Y.K. 25 September 2020 (has links)
Yes / ‘Habit’ was the most important theoretical addition into UTAUT2 to challenge the role of behavioural intention as a lone predictor of technology use. However, systematic review and meta-analysis of Price value the other UTAUT2 additional construct revealed major inconsistency of the model with just 41% UTAUT2 based studies including the construct in their research. Thus, the aim of this research is to understand the appropriateness of ‘habit’ construct usage among UTAUT2 based empirical studies and their reason for omission or inclusion. The findings from 66 empirical studies revealed only 23 studies a meagre (35%) utilised ‘habit’ construct and the remaining massive 43 studies (65%) excluded the construct from their research model. The major reason for studies not including “habit” construct was they were examining users of new technology at early stage of adoption where sufficient time hasn’t elapsed for users to form habit. Moreover this study caution the use of experience as an alternative for habit. Since experience can be gained under mandatory settings which is not sufficient enough to form habit that occurs more naturally under voluntary settings. This study also provided number of recommendations for theory and practice based on the findings.

Purchase intention in an electronic commerce environment: A trade-off between controlling measures and operational performance

Shareef, M.A., Dwivedi, Y.K., Kumar, V., Davies, G., Rana, Nripendra P., Baabdullah, A.M. 25 September 2020 (has links)
Yes / Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to understand the integrated impact of the application of protection measures against identity theft on consumers’ synergistic perception of trust, the cost of products/services and operational performance (OP) – all of which in turn is postulated to contribute to purchase intention (PI) when shopping online. Design/methodology/approach: In order to accomplish the specified aim, this study first conducted an experiment by involving the students from a university in Bangladesh. Then a survey was conducted to capture their opinion based on the previous experiment. Findings: The study identified that in e-commerce, OP and trust have potential impact on pursuing consumers’ PI. Traditionally, price is always an issue in marketing; however, for e-commerce, this issue does not have direct impact on PI. Research limitations/implications: The main limitation of this study is that a less established e-commerce example was utilized to conduct the experiment and survey for validating the model. Also, the study was conducted only in the context of Bangladesh and a student sample was utilized. Future studies can test the model in different contexts (particularly to verify the impact of privacy) by utilizing data from consumers. Practical implications: This study has resolved a controversial issue by generating clear guidelines that the overall conjoint effect of OP, trust, and price on PI is neither negative nor neutral. Synergistically, the application of these controlling tools of identity theft can substantially enhance consumers’ trust, which is the single most predictor to pursue consumer PI. Originality/value: This study has provided in-depth insight into the impact of different controlling measures in e-commerce PI. Practitioners have potential learning from this study that if consumers find the application of different controlling mechanisms against cybercrimes, particularly identity theft, enhancing the reliability, authenticity and security of transactions in this virtual medium, they do not mind paying a higher price. Such insights have not been provided by existing studies on this topic. Developing trust on e-commerce purchase is the driving force, not the price.

The extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2): A systematic literature review and theory evaluation

Tamilmani, Kuttimani, Rana, Nripendra P., Wamba, S.F., Dwivedi, R. 29 October 2020 (has links)
Yes / The extended unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT2) is less than ten years old and has already garnered more than 6,000 citations with extensive usage in information systems and beyond. This research employed cited reference search to systematically review studies that cited UTAUT2 originating article. Based on UTAUT2 usage, the downloaded articles were classified into four categories such as: 1) General citation, 2) UTAUT2 application, 3) UTAUT2 integration, and 4) UTAUT2 extensions. Weber's (2012) theory evaluation framework revealed UTAUT2 as a robust theory on most dimensions except for parsimony arising from the complex model. UTAUT2 extensions emerged as popular UTAUT2 utilization category as researchers extended the model with context specific variables. Finally, UTAUT2 extensions were mapped to Johns' (2006) context dimensions to identify various limitations of the existing technology adoption research and to provide multi-level framework for future researchers with libraries of context dimensions.

From innovation to industry standard : A qualitative study on how workforce management systems from a socio-technical standpoint can be developed towards home care and how the technology adoption life cycle can be applied as a market strategy

Boghammar, Isak, Wilhelmsson, Per Albin January 2020 (has links)
This undergraduate thesis discusses how a new type of workforce management system successfully can be developed from a socio-technical perspective for businesses in the home care service to adopt and benefit from the tool. To answer the question “How can companies that develop high-tech workforce management systems (WFM-systems) towards the home care sector use The technology adoption life cycle for the tool to go from innovation to industry standard?”. A qualitative method is used in the form of a case study. To collect the empirical material, semi-structured interviews were conducted with respondents from three different Swedish home companies services and a company that is developing a high-tech WFM-system for the home care sector. The substrate for the theory is based on how companies that develop high-tech WFM-systems can be inspired by The technology adoption life cycle to increase their competitiveness and avoid collapse due to the gaps that exist between different market segments and their varying needs.  Through analyzes of the collected empirical data, the authors of this thesis have concluded that the home care sector is facing a digital transformation where the implementation of high-tech WFM-systems is considered necessary. The reason behind this is that high-tech tools that use advanced algorithms for scheduling can improve resource management, while reducing costs and travel times. In order for the implementation to achieve the desired effect, these tools need to be developed in accordance with a socio-technical perspective where both home care businesses and technically able developers work together to create tools that have a positive impact on the future of the industry.

Digital transformation in the fashion industry - Understanding collaborative technology adoption / Digital transformation i modeindustrin - Teknikimplementering genom samarbete

Anderhagen Holmes, Klara January 2023 (has links)
Digital transformation is changing the world with new technology being employed and changing how different industries approach their operations. The pressure of transformation is felt by the fashion industry, where the design process is changing through the use of new technology, such as 3D CAD systems for developing garments. However, the transformation of the fashion industry is slow and requires technology adoption. Technology adoption brings with it challenges, such as issues with compatibility between new and old systems along with disturbances to existing work processes. Technology adoption is made even more complex as the design process is often carried out through teams, and adoption of new technology being carried out by teams rather than just by individuals working alone. As the understanding of how teams work together to adopt and implement new technology is limited, it is of interest to study how teams adopt new technology in order to understand how to shape adoption in the future and keep up with the societal changes bringing and brought by digital transformation. This study therefore aims to explore how small design teams within the fashion industry adopt technology into their design process. This is done through a case study featuring a Swedish fashion firm, currently on a digital transformation journey. The study follows design teams in an adoption project working towards implementing a 3D CAD system into their existing design process. Data in this qualitative case study has been collected through the use of semi-structured interviews, observations and the review of internal and external documentation. Collected data has then been coded and compiled into a code structure that visualizes different levels of detail of the findings. This study reveals that small design teams successfully adopt new systems into their work process by setting realistic implementation goals together, collaborating closely within and outside the teams, and learning from each other. Teams utilize a participatory ergonomics approach to set goals and perceive immediate and potential improvements, similar to established models for technology adoption research. Team dynamics facilitate technology adoption among design teams. The introduction of new technology leads to changes in team interactions, fostering a stronger team culture and promoting understanding of how adoption affects different roles' workloads. This understanding prompts team members to reevaluate task transfers, prioritize knowledge sharing, and engage in collaborative problem-solving. Together, these findings lead to the introduction of the concept of collaborative adoption, in order to incorporate the main identified aspects of team adoption into one framework.

Diffusion of Cybersecurity Technology - Next Generation, Powered by Artificial Intelligence / Diffusion av Cybersäkerhetsteknologi: Nästa Generation Drivet av Artificiell Intelligens

Kang, Johan, Westskytte, Sebastian January 2018 (has links)
The cyber world is growing as more information is converted from analogue to digital form. While convenience has been the main driver for this change little effort has been made on securing the data. Data breaches are growing in number and each breach is growing in severity. Combined with regulatory pressure organizations are starting to realize the importance of security. The increased threat level is also driving the security market for more potent solutions and artificial intelligence (AI) have in recent years been implemented to enhance the capabilities of security technologies.  The thesis aims to investigate the adoption of AI enabled cybersecurity technologies within the financial industry which is often perceived as the market leader regarding security. Using a qualitative method through a multiple case study, valuable insights were gained regarding how firms are working with security and what needs they have. To identify factors that influence the rate of diffusion of AI enabled security technologies the diffusion of innovation theory combined with the TOE framework was used in this study.  The thesis has contributed to the field of innovation management by enriching an area within IT innovation management by bridging the gap between security innovation and AI innovation. The study revealed that environmental factors, such as regulations and threat landscape, are forcing organizations to take action and control both how organizations work with security but also what technological attributes are perceived as advantageous. Detection and automation are two technological attributes that the companies are looking for to fill their needs. AI solutions are already being implemented to increase detection and automation we believe that the rate of adoption for AI enabled security innovation will only continue to grow. The results and findings contribute to an expanded understanding on the factors that affect adoption of AI security innovations within the financial industry.

Winberg, Emil, Ahrén, Jesper January 2018 (has links)
The fourth industrial revolution is emerging, where connection and data driven production has thepotential to create self-optimizing factories, in which machines and systems can communicate inreal-time. However, adopting new technologies can impose big changes but also create competitiveadvantages for organisations, which is certainly the case of Industry 4.0.The purpose of the study was to identify what main factors that affects the adoption of Industry4.0 for production organisations and how problems in automated production cells could bereduced by introducing Industry 4.0 concepts. The study was performed as a case study at SandvikCoromant, where observations and interviews were conducted. In addition, five externalorganisations specialized in industrial digitalization were interviewed. The study found that there are various factors affecting the adoption of Industry 4.0 categorizedinto technological, organisational and external/environmental factors. In terms of technology, small scale applications, increased transparency through connection and an increased integrationof information systems have positive effect on the adoption of Industry 4.0. In organisationalcontext, production organisations must acquire digital competence, integrate their IT organisationinto their production and change the culture and attitude towards the adoption of Industry 4.0.Furthermore, standardization, creation of ecosystem and IT security are the mainexternal/environmental aspects which affect Industry 4.0 adoption. At Sandvik Coromant, eleven problems were identified which has the potential to be reduced by implementing concepts of Industry 4.0. The study proposes use of connectivity, visualization, dataanalysis to reduce these problems.

Characteristics of Early Adopters and Early Majority Adopting a Vertical Social Network : A case study of the applicability of the Diffusion of Innovations theory in a Vertical Social Network / Karaktärsdrag av tidiga och sena användare av vertikala sociala nätverk : En fallstudie av lämpligheten att använda Diffusion of Innovations teorin i ett vertikalt socialt nätverk

Hantman Kollén, Sophie, Manhem, Rebecca January 2019 (has links)
To remain relevant, even the successful social networks need to evolve. Vertical Social Networks (VSN) are the response of this, satisfying people who are seeking more niched and personalized content. However, this is a highly competitive environment where taking advantage of the first mover advantages is crucial for the future success. This study concerns diffusion of innovations and segmentation according to the technology adoption lifecycle to investigate how a VSN can reach user growth by understanding their current users better. We have built this study upon an explorative case study of a case company operating in the VSN landscape providing their users with an application. Building on extensive literature research, theory, surveys and conducting interviews, differences in user characteristics were identified. Theoretical and empirical evidence was further analyzed based on user behavior and level of satisfaction. Our recommendations suggest that considerations for different phases of the diffusion journey has to be made by targeting the appropriate users as this is vital for satisfying the existing users, and for reaching new ones.

A model for representing the motivational and cultural factors that influence mobile phone usage variety

Van Biljon, Judith Arnoldine 30 November 2006 (has links)
Mobile phone usage involves the mobile phone, the telecommunications system, mobile phone users, and the adoption and use of the system. Mobile communications is a complex and rapidly changing industry consisting of the hardware, software, network and business aspects. Mobile phone users are influenced by demographic, social, cultural and contextual factors that complicate the understanding of mobile phone usage. Advances in technology and market competition drive the addition of new services and features. In contrast, human cognition and attention are more constrained and many users find it difficult to cope with the cognitive demands of mobile phone technology. The aim of this study is to develop a model for representing the influence of motivational needs and cultural factors on mobile phone usage variety. The link between motivational needs and mobile phone usage variety, the cultural factors that influence mobile phone usage variety, as well as usage spaces as an approach to representing usage variety, are researched. The research encompasses a literature study, structured interviews, a pilot study and a survey. The pilot study and survey yielded data about mobile phone usage of university students under the age of 30 in South Africa. The results from the statistical analysis were triangulated with the findings of the literature study and the observations made about mobile phone usage during this two-year period. A final survey was conducted to verify the model. The contribution of this study is a mobile phone technology usage model (MOPTUM) for representing the motivational and cultural factors that influence mobile phone usage variety in such a way that users can use the model to express their mobile phone usage needs in non-technical terms while marketers and designers can use the model to convert the expressed user needs into the features required. MOPTUM draws on concepts and models from sociology, computer-supported cooperative work, human-computer interaction and technology adoption models from the field of marketing. MOPTUM verifies some existing findings on mobile phone usage and then integrates and extends these existing models to provide a new model for understanding the motivational and cultural factors that influence mobile phone usage variety. / Computing / Ph. E-Learning and In-Service Training: An Exploration of the Beliefs and Practices of Trainers and Trainees in the Turkish National Police

Zengin, Selcuk 08 1900 (has links)
This targeted research study, carried out by an officer of the Turkish National Police (TNP), investigated the perceptions and beliefs of TNP trainers and trainees towards the potential adoption and implementation of e-learning technology for in-service police training. Utilizing diffusion and innovation theory (DOI) (Rogers, 1995) and the conceptual technology integration process model (CTIM) (Nicolle, 2005), two different surveys were administered; one to the trainers and one to the trainees. The factor analyses revealed three shared trainer and trainee perceptions: A positive perception towards e-learning, personally and for the TNP; a belief in the importance of administrative support for e-learning integration; and the belief in importance of appropriate resources to facilitate integration and maintain implementation. Three major recommendations were made for the TNP. First, the research findings could be used as a road map by the TNP Education Department to provide a more flexible system to disseminate in-service training information. The second is to establish two-way channels of communication between the administration and the TNP personnel to efficiently operationalize the adoption and integration of e-learning technology. The third is the administrative provision of necessary hardware, software, and technical support.
