Early Stages Of Calcareous Soil Reclamation Along The TMX-Anchor Loop Pipeline In Jasper National Park

Cartier, Sarah B. 11 1900 (has links)
Research assessed early stages of calcareous soil reclamation along the TMX-Anchor Loop pipeline through Jasper National Park. Calcareous soils are low in nutrients and highly prone to erosion after disturbances. Four sites were established in each of five calcareous soils, and divided into three pipeline right-of-way areas; work, trench and spoil. Ten amendment treatments, established within each right-of-way areaincluded a control and combinations of wood chips, fertilizer and compost with some plots having amendments incorporated. Wood chip treatments decreased availability of soil nutrients, with small plants contributing to high vegetation densities and low cover. Compost treatments increased soil nutrients and aided large plant establishment, creating lower plant densities and higher cover. Light application rates were most successful, with higher native plant densities and cover in relation to heavy application rates, which encouraged robust non-native plants. Pipeline right-of-way areas had no overall impact on early reclamation success. / Land Reclamation and Remediation

The ingestion of foods with TMX residues with a limit of 0.02 mg.Kg-1 (allowed by ANVISA) causes acute intoxications (headache, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting) and in cases of chronic intoxication, the challenge is to relate the developed disease to the insecticide exposure over the time. It is evident the problem of the use of pesticides in Brazilian agriculture and consequently the contamination of food and water. It is necessary to develop accurate methods for quantification of these pesticides to monitor agricultural contamination and food quality control. Chromatographic methods are the most widely used in the detection of TMX, but are expensive and require a prior preparation of the sample. Electrochemical methods are also used as a high sensitivity method for determination of TMX, both in commercial formulations and in real environmental samples. Until the present work, no electroanalytical method has been using boron doped diamond electrodes (BDD) for the determination of (TMX) has not been described in the literature. In this way, this work had the objective of determining the TMX insecticide using electrodes (DDB5000 ppm and DDB8000 ppm) by means of the Cathodic Stripping Voltammetry technique coupled with Square Wave Voltammetry (CSV/SWV). The proposed method was applied in natural water samples from the parameters optimized as: Deposition Time (Dt); Deposition Potential (Ed); Frequency (f) and amplitude (a), in an electrochemical cell containing the supporting electrolyte (KCl 1M, pH = 6.4). For the DDB5000 ppm electrode, the limit of detection (LD) and limit quantification (LQ) in the standard solution were 10 μmol/L and 30 μmol/L, respectively. For the DDB8000 ppm electrode these values were 1.5 μmol/L and 4.5 μmol/L, respectively. Tests were also carried out on water samples collected from the Moraes river stream in Maués - AM. Thus, the concentrations found using the methodology proposed for TMX were 9.6 μmol/L at point 01, at point 02 it was 5.0 μmol/L and at 2.5 μmol/L at point 03. Thus, the electrode with higher doping level, revealed to be able to determine TMX in natural samples waters.

Within-Group Agreement in Perceptions of the Work Environment: Its Antecedents

Ford, Lucy R. 01 January 2003 (has links)
There is an increasing interest in within-group agreement in organizations, in response to evidence that agreement is predictive of various outcomes of interest. The model in this study suggests that within-group agreement on perceptions of the work environment is predicted indirectly by the quality of exchange relationships, specifically team-member exchange (TMX), leader-member exchange (LMX), social interaction and work interdependence, through the mediation of social influence, and directly by demographic homogeneity. Chan's (1998) typology of composition models was used to appropriately conceptualize the variables at the group level. Results suggest that average high quality LMX relationships are predictive of within-group agreement, and that high quality relationships within the team are predictive of perceptions of social influence within the team. The mediation model was non-significant, and contrary to existing literature, social interaction and work interdependence were not significantly related to any of the other variables in the model.Demographic homogeneity was related to both perceptions of social influence and to within-group agreement on perceptions of the work environment in the opposite direction from that hypothesized. Post-hoc analyses suggest that organizational cultural orientation (collectivist or individualist) may moderate the relationship between demographic homogeneity and within-group agreement on perceptions of the work environment.

Unknown Date (has links)
