Klippel, Altair Flamarion January 2007 (has links)
Mineral raw material production is done through a well known worldwide technology. However, the technological domain seems to be insufficient to cope with the survival of mining industries in view of the increasing world economic competition. In addition, it is necessary that the management methods adopted by the mining industry be aligned with the logic of competitiveness aiming to maximize the financial and economic outcomes of the organizations as a way of supporting themselves in the current globalized scenario. This thesis deals with the maximization of outcomes to be achieved in the mining industries through a form of management that integrates Mining Engineering intrinsic technology with managing technology from Industrial Engineering. This integration is carried out through an Integrated Management Model proposed. The model was first devised by the author in the fluorspar mining in the late 90’s as some concepts from Industrial Engineering were being implemented. Drawing on the author’s experience, rooted in the aggregation of theoretical concepts, three other sites in the mining industry were chosen as a scenario for the work where two research methods were used. As for limestone and amethyst mining, the Survey-Action method was applied, while Case Study was used for coal mining. For fluorspar mining, the improvement in production based upon the integration of the Engineering areas resulted in a reduction of the total costs per ton for finished product, allowing the elimination of waste in such production system. The company became a learning organization. For limestone mining, the Industrial Engineering knowledge spread through learning steps provided a systemic view of the production process and implemented a management approach aiming to optimize the use of the existing capacity. In this setting, the development of new products was also taken into account. For amethyst mining, the management model provided improvements in the production flow and also improved the employee’s life quality due to better working conditions. In the last case study, coal mining, this work attempted to emphasize the importance of developing new products by using the company’s full capacity. In addition, issues related to environmental polution control were addressed. The analysis and study of the four scenarios led to the construction of a structure and a process of changes for the Integrated ManagementModel. The model changing structure is supported by the integration of mining and processing techniques with management through the innovation of products, services, methods and market. It provides better outcomes with the expansion of market share, operational costs reduction and higher profitability. The model changing process starts by a situational diagnostic to access the existing synergy between the two areas of Engineering previously mentioned and tends to transform the same into a learning organization to assimilate, integrate and consolidate the concepts, techniques and tools from Mining Engineering and Industrial Engineering.

Štíhlý podnik / Lean enterprise

Gmenta, Marian January 2010 (has links)
The content of this thesis is a set of approaches that lead to a leaner enterprise. Besides the basic lean methods that are described in the theoretical part of this paper, the most attention is devoted to total productive maintenance (TPM). The practical part of this paper primarily focuses on a complete analysis of the maintenance system in Parker Hannifin and then on a project designed to implement the basic elements of TPM in the above mentioned enterprise. At the end of the piece, the project is evaluated and further ideas and recommendations for the future development of TPM in the enterprise are proposed.

Sledování ontogenetického vývoje mandibuly na základě metod geometrické morfometrie / Evaluation of ontogenetic development of the mandible using geometric morphometric methods

Kiebelová, Alena January 2010 (has links)
During ontogeny there are a lot of changes in the entire human skeleton. This thesis deals with shape changes in the mandible, which are caused by genetic, hormonal, as well as mechanical factors. The most important mechanical factors influencing the shape of mandible are development of deciduous and permanent dentition and also development of masticatory muscles. 34 children mandibles of known age and 14 adult mandibles were analysed and compared for this thesis. Data were obtained by scanning coordinates of 36 landmarks using Microscribe G2X, and then were processed by software PAST and Morphologika2 using multivariate statistics (PCA, MANOVA). Geometric morphometrics is used for a detailed analysis of shape changes of the mandible. There is no difference between dental and chronological age. In conclusion, lower jaw narrows during growth, the body extends more in the region of third molars and the ramus grows mainly in the region of condylar process. Chin prominence also occurs during ontogeny. In the group of adult mandibles the variability is caused by coronoid process height and the body width. The hypothesis, that age groups are significantly different from each other, and therefore due to tooth mineralization there are marked shape changes, is confirmed.

Characterization and Processing Evaluation of Starch/High-Density Polyethylene Materials in Extrusion Blow Molding

Bacigalupi, Bradley Dale 01 December 2013 (has links) (PDF)
The growing negative impacts of non-biodegradable plastics derived from non-renewable materials have created increasing interest throughout the world for new materials that are both biodegradable and renewable, that can be combined with or replace traditional plastics. Plant-based thermoplastic starch (TPS), a promising alternative material to traditional petroleum based resin, is both biodegradable and renewable and has great potential for use in plastic manufacturing processes. Two major obstacles that prevent more widespread use of TPS include; TPS base material, which is typically manufactured in a flake or powder, is incompatible with standard plastics production equipment that require pelletized resin, the second reason is that TPS is difficult to mix with standard plastic materials such as High Density Polyethylene (HDPE). BiologiQ of Blackfoot Idaho through a unique manufacturing process has created a new type of TPS called EcoStarch™ Resin (ESR) that overcomes these two obstacles the material can be both pelletized and combined with various standard base plastics such as HDPE. This study evaluated and characterized the processability materials properties of ESR and HDPE blends in the Extrusion Blow Molding (EBM) by measuring wall thickness, tensile strength, tensile elongation, modulus of elongation and formability compared to 100% HDPE bottles. As the ESR content increased the uniformity of the wall thickness increased. The tensile strength increased from ESR content of 30% to 50% while the elongation decreased. Bottles were successfully extrusion blow molded with ESR content of 50%.

Differentiated Instruction: Adapting Teacher Practices and Materials for Individual Groups of Students

Erfan Ali, Shvan, Melbacke, Filip January 2023 (has links)
There is a requirement for English teachers in Sweden to adapt their teaching to align with the policy documents advocating to foster the students' continuous and lifelong learning. This study aims to address in what way the participating teachers work to create engaging learning environments and lessons that promote communication and cooperation. Furthermore, the study explores which methods the participating teachers use to differentiate instructions and make adaptations to teacher practices and materials to successfully reach each individual student. The data was gathered by conducting qualitative semi-structured interviews with four 7-9 English teachers. The interviews were focused on four main themes: (1) Adaptations for differentiated learning through multi-modality, (2) Adaptations for differentiated learning through the bi-lingual approach, (3) Adaptations for differentiated learning through cooperative learning and (4) Adaptations for differentiated learning through other practices. Based on the guidelines provided by The Swedish National Agency for Education, findings from previous research, and the data collected in this study, it becomes evident that teachers must adopt their teaching in various ways. The adaptation of teaching strategies and practices include ways to effectively engage all of their individual groups of students, as well as the utilization of visual aids, bi-lingual instructional practices, comprehensible input and output, and cooperative learning methods. The results show that these are important ways to differentiate instruction and enhance learning to support the students’ academic and cognitive growth. The presented teacher practices can aid teachers to use differentiated instruction in accordance with the needs of their individual groups of students, both in terms of classes and the individual students within those classes.

The Kentucky Re-entry Universal Payload System (KRUPS): Sub-orbital Flights

Sparks, James Devin 01 January 2018 (has links)
The Kentucky Re-entry Universal Payload System (KRUPS) is an adaptable testbed for atmosphere entry science experiments, with an initial application to thermal protection systems (TPS). Because of the uniqueness of atmospheric entry conditions that ground testing is unable to replicate, scientists principally rely on numerical models for predicting entry conditions. The KRUPS spacecraft, developed at the University of Kentucky, provides an inexpensive means of obtaining validation data to verify and improve these models. To increase the technology readiness level (TRL) of the spacecraft, two sub-orbital missions were developed. The first mission, KUDOS, launched August 13th, 2017 on a Terrier-Improved Malamute rocket to an altitude of ~150 km. The second mission, KOREVET, launched on March 25th, 2018 on the same type of rocket to an altitude of ~170 km. The chief purpose of both missions was to validate the spacecraft design, ejection mechanism, on-board power, data transmission, and data collection. After both missions, the overall TRL improved from 4 to 5 by validating most subsystems in a relevant environment. Both of these missions were invaluable preparation for the project's ultimate goal of releasing multiple experimental testbeds from the ISS.

Guipert, Gaspard 30 November 2005 (has links) (PDF)
