The guiding problem of this study looked for the characteristics which could be identified, in the journalistic narratives written for the tablet platform. The conception of this type of narrative extends from the printed media to the tablet mobile platform, thanks to authors like Muniz Sodré and Ferrari (1986), Benjamin (1994), Díaz Noci (2011), Rita Paulino (2012) and Suzana Barbosa (2013). This theoretical fundamentation meets the objective of comprehending how the narratives are constructed on the tablet, based on characteristics which are peculiar to digital and mobile media: multimediality, hypertextuality, genre and tactility. Therefore, two products were analysed: the digital magazine O Globo a Mais and the application of the Jornal do Commercio of Pernambuco, observed in different periods in 2013. The corpus of the analysis is composed of 10 narratives from O Globo a Mais and four from the Jornal do Commercio. The guiding hypothesis implies that the analysed products would use multimedia resources pertinent to the tablet. We evidence, therefore, at least two distinct products: the shovelware, the idea of which is presented by Fidalgo and Canavilhas (2009); and the autochthon, conceptualized by Barbosa, Silva and Nogueira (2012). In a general way, we highlight certain structural aspects of the narratives presented in both products: linear narratives with some variations; convergence of content; the process of remediation and the appropriation of subjectivity, used more intensely in deep news in the autochthones, represented here by O Globo a Mais, which allows us to make an analogy to the magazine journalism developed by the magazine O Cruzeiro in the 40s, 50s and early 60s (CASADEI, 2013).

Implementierung und Umsetzbarkeit eines Tablet-gestützten Screenings auf Unterstützungsbedarf in der Radioonkologie / Implementation and application for the need of support in the field of radiooncology via tablet screening

Häckel, Annalena January 2017 (has links) (PDF)
In recent years the incidence and prevalence of carcinosis remained unchanged high. The continous improvement of patient centred care offers unknown possibilities. Modern cancer therapy is distinguished by overlapping cooperation. These extensive treatment options can be simplified by innovative technology. The study in hand investigates the implementabilitiy of a tablet screening in the field of radiooncology. Aquiring data on the ESAS Items and on the individual request of support as done in the Canadian cancer support system enables us to give evidence. In the present study tumor patients were screened before receiving percutane radiotherapy (T1) on a special symptom screening scale via tablet. The participants also evaluated the tablet screening on handling and usability. After the radiotheray the participants were questioned again via phone interview. In total 332 cancer patients took part in the tablet screening. 79 potential participants didn’t participate. The main reasons were the lack of time (21,5%), the participation in other studies (20,3%), and the high psychic strain (17,7%). The the number of participants with a previous knowledge in the use of tablet-computer was low (15,7%). Furthermore, they were significantly younger than the participants with that hat no previous knowledge in the use of a tablet. Handling and usabilityshowed high acceptance. The few supporters of conventional paper-pencil -quetionnaires were significantly older. In total 219 screening patients did consent the further evaluation and analysis of their screening results. Patients and physicians showed divergent results in theassessment of the patient’s performance status (k=0,254). The rate of participants with positive screening results decreased from T1 to T2. In the ESAS items fatigue, dyspnoea and other problems curative patients showed significant symptom improvement. Patients with palliative treatment also represented with significant improvemet in dyspnoea whereas the rate on depression increased significantly. Patients showed the lowest interest in the provision on information on making an advance health care directive (23,3%). The BUKA study was able to represent the opportunities of tablet screening in the routine of radiooncology. The tablet screening did resilt in an overall positive feedback and demonstrated high rate of acceptance. Similar positive results were also showen in several previous studies concerning the use computerized questionnaires. The participants complaints on the lack of time did not refer to the use of the computerized questionnaire itself but on the provided amount of time for the questionaire itself. In the future, the amount of screening items should be adjusted to the amount of waiting time in the ambulance of the radiooncology. Furthermore, computerized screening should be considered to be already done at home. The upcoming computerization in the daily routine will increase rate people with previous knowledge on computerized systems and applications even further. The implementation of computerized systems provides the opportunity of a very effective patient monitoring as a foundation vor multidisciplinary oncological treatment. As a result of the increasing digitalization of patient data the data protection is extremely important and future challenge but must be basic prerequisite. In contrast to other studies our patients predominantly represented a good performance status. Despite the low symptom stress the positive effects of a radiotherapy could be illustrated here as well. The high demand of support seemed to be due to the lack of understanding of medical information. Curative patients showed significantly more interest in taking actively part in their therapy whereas patients with palliative treatment seemed to be rather exhausted with the excess of palliative treatment options.

A Pen-Based Interactive Animation Environment for Effective Communication using a Tablet PC

Holman Jr, Jerome Thomas 30 October 2019 (has links)
The human mind is a churning engine, processing all forms of sensory input. Information that reaches these senses is powerful, facilitating and deepening understanding. Animations access sight. They provide a rich visual model that portrays not only information about the system graphically, but they also present information about the relationships and interactions in that model over time. However, the complexity of today's software for constructing animations limits their use and isolates animations to a small set of scenarios. One such eliminated scenario is being able to create and manipulate animations in real time, while a conversation takes place. The human mind comprehends from manipulation, trial, and error. Animations are productions. Instructors cannot manipulate and recreate animations within the time constraints of a classroom. Developers cannot recreate animations within the time constraints of a meeting. This thesis explores the engineering of a modeling environment prototype for creating animated models. By building an environment designed to leverage the capabilities of Microsoft's Tablet PC operating system, this thesis contributes a new approach to creating animations and visualizations. This prototype demonstrates a pen-based user interface that decreases the time and effort required to create an animation by enabling users to create an animation by simply drawing a model and animating it. The Tablet PC hardware and software provide developers with the capabilities necessary to create software that works as naturally as the pen and paper. With the Tablet PC's Ink technology, users can draw models and simply draw the paths where the objects in that model should follow. This thesis explores the design of the environment, the research prototype named Model Pad, and explores its importance, its contribution, and its unique design based on the capabilities of the Tablet PC. As mobile computers become increasingly central to the workplace, the ability to create animations quickly and easily while talking with others, while presenting in front of an audience or a class, or while working with a team of engineers allows animation to become a natural part of the way we visually communicate information. The Model Pad environment is merely a first step in the direction of creating fully pen-based modeling and animation tools. The concepts it builds form the foundation of understanding how to express animations that are more complex. This thesis and the Model Pad environment provide the initial framework for building pen-based animation tools on the Tablet PC, allowing simple models to be expressed in methods as simple as using a pen and paper. This solution enables people to construct simple models in real time, enabling a rebirth of the power of animation for education and engineering design. / Master of Science / The human mind is a churning engine, processing all forms of sensory input. VText: A Plug-in Extension to Add Electronic Textbook Functionality to Microsoft OneNote

Cristy, John Oliver 27 January 2014 (has links)
Electronic textbooks are different from ebooks (electronic books) in that they allow the user to go beyond just reading material on a computer screen. Electronic textbooks encourage the user to accomplish all of the operations typically performed with a hardcopy text in addition to some functions not possible with paper books. With electronic textbooks users can make annotations in the textbook with e-ink; mark important sections; search over the ink, the text, or even the scanned images; look up items in online dictionaries or encyclopedias; perform interactive reinforcement drills; view simulations; and many other operations afforded by the computing power of the underlying computer and the reach of the Internet connection. These operations encourage students to engage in active reading. The VText framework is designed to provide many of the desired features of an e-textbook in such a way that it produces pedagogical value rather than just convenience for students. Many so-called e-textbook solutions available today provide few features beyond those possible with hardcopy textbooks. The VText framework is built as an add-in to Microsoft's note-taking program, OneNote. The add-in provides features that facilitate the use of OneNote as a reader and as an educational tool while leaving in place OneNote's strengths in note-taking, collaboration, and search. / Master of Science

Experiência de leitura: entre o digital e o tradicional / Experience of reading: Between digital and traditional

Vaniele Barreiros da Silva 09 October 2014 (has links)
Realize reading as a social practice, historical and cultural from the evolution of textual variations built and exercised in society is the first way to discuss the reflex of reading process. Reviewing the history of reading, based on authors as Fischer, Chartier e Manguel, we intend to immerge in the building of reading from the centuries. By comparing uses and appropriations of the reading from the history of writing we realize that the individual is the determinant factor on the practice of using technologies. The study object were two groups of post graduation students of Centro Universitário Geraldo Di Biase, where for the first time was inserted the digital technology as didacticism tool, noticing with this work, a new experimentation of reading . This way, the tablet as a reading support is the punctual tool to observed in loco, in a way that the classroom is the local of observation. The methodological practice was based on empirical research of observation non-participant and participant, in the way to realize that the students and teachers everyday that use this practice. Formed by several actions and coming from a cultural and traditional education, we find a individual that was digitally excluded, that is constantly inserted on a digital inclusion process, in a fragile way, but reinforced by consumption practices and marketing practices. Readers surrounded by ephemeral and fragmented readings, are immersed in an era where the quantity is superimposed to quality, leading to questioning the several readings or the origin of texts. In a way that social relations are stimulated by multisensory medias, we find the screen as the space of writing and reading, but this no guarantee effective technology inclusion, but a cognitive process that intend to insert individuals everyday on the digital literacy
