The proposal of this study is to evaluate anarchist education paradigm using in geography teaching. The first part have are historical and theoretical explanations and in the second part have practical aspects of anarchist education and a design project to anarchist education community and geography place in it. The education research teaching geography and ideology concept and Critical Theory (Frankfurt school) and Radical Geography are the basis to discuss socialist pedagogies like radical, democratic and anarchist education experiences. The research project includes to study Piotr Kropotkin and Elisée Reclus statement about learning geography and to analyse why anarchism have not advanced in geography thought nowadays. The information collected is using to evaluate how anarchist education can be learning if there are not anarchist geography to base in it. The reports from five teachers, Summerhill Schools (UK) and Escuela Paideia (Spain) point out empirical references about free education and its possibilities to be applied in state education. The perspective arising from this account is used to offer a trenchant critique of some ways to teaching geography in the anti-authoritarian education with self-government based in democratic meetings. And have no-sense to teaching to imposing fragments of science by curriculum of school. The result is that is impossible to use anarchist paradigm in conventional education but teacher can be able to resist against fascism at school and improving freedom quotas committed with own individuality and collective and mutual practices.

As enchentes do rio Aricanduva (MSP) e a construção de conhecimentos no ensino de Geografia / Flooding of the river Aricanduva (MSP) and the construction of knowledge in geography teaching

Kobayashi, Marcia Yoko 30 August 2010 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to assess the extent to which geography taught in schools whose community is affected by flooding has made the reading of the living space of students and significant learning. The fieldwork was conducted in five public schools (state and municipal) located around the river Aricanduva in low and middle courses of the river, the area of major flooding. Directors were interviewed, educational coordinators, teachers and students from 6th grade education. Questionnaires (open) deal with the construction of knowledge in geography and the notion of flooding. Also analyzed the proposed curricula and textbooks (adopted in schools). It was observed that there is a mismatch between what we intend to teach, design and teaching of geography and what is learned in the discipline. On the one hand teachers (Proposed Curriculum and textbooks) have a design that is concerned with reality and the development of critical thinking, on the other hand, the students have a concept of discipline and school linked to location, market work and encyclopedic knowledge. In relation to floods prevail among respondents explanations devoid of scientific development, though, among teachers, there is some understanding of the issue of urban flooding as a product of the urbanization process, we think it should be. The results reveal the importance of design education based on the construction of knowledge with reference to everyday knowledge and situated in the lived space of students

Transnational Higher Education Networks for Learning and Teaching (TNLTs) in Geography

Wakefield, Kelly January 2013 (has links)
Transnational Higher Education Networks for Learning and Teaching (TNLTs) in Geography are networks of academic geographers that facilitate a common interest in exchanging knowledge about higher education learning and teaching. Participation within these learning and teaching networks arguably provides benefits of information sharing but is often compromised by barriers such as finance and time. The aim of this study is to contribute to geographies of higher education by exploring academic networking practices for learning and teaching through geographers motivations, experiences and outcomes of participation alongside the role that technology plays in facilitating these. The subject of learning and teaching is an increasingly important area of study. The complex relationship between the practices of learning and teaching alongside research and administration duties within higher education has been previously explored yet little discussion is offered on academics who focus on learning and teaching practice. However, within the context of human geography research TNLTs as defined within this thesis have only received cursory treatment. This study situates TNLTs under the umbrella of geographies of higher education that are increasingly being studied with focuses on transnational academic mobility, international student mobility and international collaborations in higher education. This study sketches a conceptual framework for engaging in academic networking by bringing research together on TNLTs, Continuing Professional Development (CPD), higher education on a global scale, Communities of Practice (CoP) and the technology driven-network society that comprise five bodies of literature that have not been considered collectively before. Due to a lack of literature and previous work on TNLTs, this thesis applies grounded theorising that generated findings out of the data rather than testing a hypothesis. Such inductive methodology develops and constructs theory and is a useful approach to researching TNLTs because it also allows for a combination of different research methods. In this thesis, various ways to access TNLTs are blended to effectively study them, including both face-to-face and online surveys and interviews.

The main objective of this research was to investigate and contribute with teachers of Basic Education, in relation to their teaching-learning practices in geography, and specifically to the teaching of concept Place, aiming to expand the possibilities for practice so that students understand this concept more effectively. A consciência e a mediação: um estudo sobre as didáticas contemporâneas de professores de geografia da rede pública de São Paulo e do Rio de Janeiro / The consciousness and mediation: a study about the contemporary teaching of geography teachers from public schools in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro

Sacramento, Ana Claudia Ramos 20 August 2012 (has links)
In this research, we had as central problem, the analysis on the consciousness and the mediation in the didactic act of geography teachers from seven schools in the municipalities of São Gonçalo-RJ, Itaboraí- RJ and São Paulo-SP. On the assumption that consciousness is the primitive act of humans to act on their needs. In this way, the teachers` need would be to mediate knowledge in the case of research the geographical coverage. Then, the mediation would be the significant process of knowledge characterized in transmitting for the other one, his/her knowledge and experiences to a significant learning. Understanding how the teachers organize their didactic actions is a way to reflect on the didactic and pedagogical conceptions and contemporary geography. From the perception about consciousness and mediation, we could think of who are these teachers, as are schools, students and the intentional action of everyday educational practices in the elaboration of the process of teaching and learning Geography. For this study, we work with ethnographic methodology as methodological basis that enable us to understand other peoples world or to figure out how people act on something, about their needs and another people. We research on how teachers act in their own work places the classroom, as well as, the interaction with students and knowledge. In this way, we use the observation of teachers´ classes as an instrument, in order to analyze the different ways teachers interpreted their act of teaching Geography. Besides that, we analyze the questionnaires` answers and interviews to organize the main conceptions of teachers about their own word, and so, to understand how the consciouness and mediation are conceived, from their didactic acts. These conceptions are linked to the role of School Geography; the teaching; the relationship to the means of education and learning activies; the territorial theme and teachers´ knowledge in the relation to Geography and Didactic. Thus, in the end of this research, we notice, after these analysis, that teachers present consciousness about their work in some moments, but in other ones, we perceive some difficulties in thinking about their classes, principally in relation to knowledge important to help them how to reflect upon the mediation process of geographical knowledge.

Holgado, Flávio Lopes January 2013 (has links)
