Les d'Espinose aux jardins : attentes, intégration et occupation d'un espace par les noblesses de province au Grand Siècle / D'Espinose and their gardens : space's expectation, integration, appropiation by provincial nobility during the Grand Siècle

Bourniche, Kevin 04 December 2018 (has links)
The garden enables one to approach dwelling places and landscapes as well as society of the Ancient Régime. During the Grand Siècle, three generations of the Espinose family and their relations, whether the latter are descended from the bourgeoisie or the nobility, have put their stamp on gardens in town or in the countryside in the eastern part of ancient Brittany. These enclosed areas have tried to meet at best the logical requirements of their environment. Whether in town or in the countryside, the garden of the estate met aesthetic, social, economic and technical requirements. And as the cornerstone of the landed property and its management, the garden also reflects an evolution in tastes, and therefore is liable to mutations. The marks of time and the status of the owners are apparent, with obvious signs of the prestige and/or the difficulties of the family. Thus the garden as a place where to take walks or grow flowers and plants is the expression of a knowledge as well as of a social status.

Cultivating the tekkillakw, the ethnoecology of tleksem, Pacific silverweed or cinquefoil (Argentina egedii (Wormsk.) Rydb.; Rosaceae): lessons from Kwaxsistalla, Clan Chief Adam Dick, of the Qawadiliqella Clan of the Dzawadaenuxw of Kingcome Inlet (Kwakwaka'wakw).

Lloyd, T. Abe 07 June 2011 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the traditional cultivation of an edible root species by Kwaxsistalla, Clan Chief Adam Dick, of the Qawadiliqalla Clan, of the Dzawada ēnuxw, a subgroup of Kwakwaka’wakw, occupying the Kingcome Inlet area on the Central Coast of British Columbia. Kwaxsistalla is a traditionally trained Clan Chief and potlatch speaker with recognized authority to share his detailed knowledge and experiences of his clan’s food production system. This research is centered on his Clan’s tekkillakw (estuarine salt marsh root garden) root gardens of the Kingcome River estuary, and the long-standing practices associated with the large-scale production of tleksem Pacific silverweed [Argentina egedii (Wormsk.) Rydb.; syn. Potentilla pacifica (L.) Howell.], is one of the four cultivated root species. Kwaxsistalla has shared his hands-on knowledge of how root garden cultivation fits into his family’s seasonal patterns of food production as well as detailed accounts of how to construct and use tools for cultivating, weeding, harvesting, and cooking estuarine roots. He has also provided information that has been instrumental in developing a model of aboriginal management of estuarine root gardens (Deur 2005). This thesis builds on Deur’s model by attempting to experimentally replicate tekkillakw management in order to better understand the management effect on the abundance, size, and flavour of Argentina egedii roots. Over the course of the 2008 growing season I randomly subjected 60 ¼ square meter patches of Kwaxsistalla’s fallow tekkillakw to either a “till” or “till + weed” treatment and allocated 30 similar patches as a control. I applied a roto-tilling treatment just prior to the growing season, a weeding treatment mid-summer, and harvested the roots near the end of the growing season. While the short duration of my study and use of a roto-tiller limit the inferential power of my results, I found that tilling and weeding significantly increased the abundance or A. egedii but significantly decreased the root size. Throughout the same 2008 field season I also collected root specimens for analysis of their bitter and sweet constituents and found (bitter) tannins concentrations to be highest in the late summer and lowest in the spring and fall. / Graduate

O texto e o contexto : do projeto à construção da paisagem da Vila Assunção

Gessinger, Roseli Pantaleao January 2017 (has links)
This dissertation deepen the historical research about the neighborhood-garden Vila Assunção, as a result of urban design and the urban landscape changes arising from the use and appropriation of spaces designed in the neighborhood. In this sense, the object of study is the neighborhood-garden Vila Assunção, located on the South zone of Porto Alegre, designed in 1937 by Eng. Ruy de Viveiros Leiria. Taking as a starting point the original project, aims to understand, through the project deployed in the past and the affective memory of its residents, the dynamics of appropriation and occupation of the space, as historic and decisive process in the formation of the landscape. In this way, one understands as the central problem of this research to understand how and why the choice of a Garden City model, for the elaboration and of the urban design of the Vila Assunção and how its implementation occurred.

This work is concerned with the identification of elements of lexical categories N and ADJ, in Brazilian Portuguese (PB), on language processing. The working hypothesis assumed here is that the syntactic information is the first cue for the recognition of ambiguous elements’ categories used by subjects to map an element on a given class. We assume that the prosodic information does not affect the parsing, it happens after syntactic processing. The theoretical approach adopted here aims at reconciling a procedural account to language processing with a theory of language. Three experiments are presented with adult speakers of PB, two with self-paced reading and one with self-paced listening. The results provide support to the hypothesis and suggest that the syntactic information and the frequency are determinants on mapping an element on a given category.

Une anthropologie du potager / Gardens and gardeners : feet in the earth, head in the clouds. Anthropology for gardens

Larbey, Vincent 12 June 2013 (has links)
Since the 19th century, the image we have of gardens has depended on the purpose of whether it is for pleasure or utility. Thus gardening would be aimed, above all at producing, in opposition to growing his own garden for fancy. The study of numerous food gardens and their gardeners ’way of doing shows that these places are full of will and symbols far beyond the mere preoccupation of growing food. This is the case of those gardens away from home such as collective, family orcommunal gardens, but also others such as food gardens in Papua New Guinea and Amazonia, or transitory gardens in New York. The intimacy of a garden, the memory of the place, the “relationship” with the soil, the growing of one’s own food, the collective dimension and the exposure to people’s eyes are incentives for a strong and symbolic commitment. This generates approbation, sociability and expression; a way of making his presence real to the world, his relationship with time, the environment, the others and with himself. The heavenly myth may be built on these aspects which are seized by philosophers and poets as well. This study aims also at highlighting the hiatus between the conception of the gardens proposed by the councils and the gardeners’ daily practices.
