Koloniträdgårdar och näringsläckage : En studie inom Drevvikens tillrinningsområde i Stockholm

Bragesjö, Eva January 2013 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate if allotment gardens in the Drevviken area leak nutrients into nearby lakes and streams. The basis for the study comes from a qualitative interview with three representatives from the Environmental Administration in Stockholm Municipality, as well as literature. The results show that there is a problem that the colonists use their own wastewater solutions which are not allowed under their lease agreement. Stockholm City is committed that running water still will not be allowed to occur despite efforts made by Skarpnäcks stadsdelsnämnd of designing good wastewater solutions for cottages in the allotment areas. These wastewater solutions were developed over two years within the project Ability to organize drains in parts of the Listudden allotment area. The only action that presently exists is to follow the lease agreement and problems with leaking allotment gardens would no longer be a problem. However, no efforts to combat the problem are being made. No inventories of sewage treatment at the allotments are made today, and no information is distributed to colonists on what applies.  In the action programs concerning Drevviken, the basis for the study, inventory of sewage treatment at the allotment areas and information to the colonists are proposed. The results also show a difficulty to give a satisfactory answer to the question if allotment gardens leak nutrients. Probably they do leak but the amount of diffuse runoff is difficult to measure and would be very time consuming to study.

Dacha Sweet Dacha: Place Attachment in the Urban Allotment Gardens of Kaliningrad, Russia

Grabalov, Pavel January 2017 (has links)
Official planning documents and strategies often look at cities from above neglecting people’s experiences and practices. Meanwhile cities as meaningful places are constructed though citizens’ practices, memories and ties with their surroundings. The purpose of this phenomenological study is to discover people’s bonds with their urban allotment gardens – dachas – in the Russian city of Kaliningrad and to explore the significance of these bonds for city development. The phenomenon of the dacha has a long history in Russia. Similar to urban allotment gardens in other countries, dachas are an essential part of the city landscape in many post-socialist countries but differ by their large scale. Recent decades have brought diversity into the urban dacha areas of Russia and express a shift away from their primary function of recreational horticulture towards a greater variety in usage, including housing. Due to multiple legal frameworks these areas have become special enclaves with haphazard development, inadequate levels of infrastructure and low quality of self-build houses. Urban dachas can be examined as an example of both post-socialist suburbanization and informal settlement. In this thesis the concept of place attachment, derived from the works of human geographers and environmental psychologists, is used as both the theoretical and methodological lens to look at people-place relations in urban dacha areas. The empirical evidence for this study was gathered through interviews and observations in Kaliningrad where urban dachas comprise 11% of the city’s territory. To capture the different aspects of place attachment in these areas the data was categorised according to common themes. The findings of this study show the complexity of the bonds between people and their urban allotment gardens. Despite all the hardships, these places provide their residents an opportunity for independence and self-realization. The respondents demonstrated an energy and aspiration to achieve increased well-being for themselves and their families, however the lack of resources and institutions hinders the development of place attachment in urban dacha areas. The identified features of people’s bonds with their dachas should not only be preconditions for urban planning but also an integral part of the planning and development process. This study also tests the application of the concept of place attachment for urban studies.

A piece of countryside in the city : Anna Lindhagen, The allotment garden movement of Sweden and what it has been influenced by between 1900 and 1920

Holsti Heijbel, Hedvig January 2022 (has links)
This essay aims to study the Swedish allotment garden in the first two decades of the 20th century from an urbanization perspective with a special focus on Anna Lindhagen, one of the pioneers of the movement in Sweden. By doing an idea analysis of texts written by Anna Lindhagen, Rudolf Abelin and the allotment garden associations of Stockholm and Gothenburg the essay aims to examine what reactions of urbanization the Swedish allotment garden movement expressed. The essay furthermore aims to study how the movement relates to the English, German and French allotment garden movements with the help of previous research done by Micheline Nilsen.  By using dimensions as analytical tools the essay examines the Swedish allotment garden movement with four dimensions, urban planning, nurture, family and work. Furthermore, it shed light on the allotment garden movement's reaction to urbanization with the help of an urbanization perspective. The study has shown that the Swedish allotment garden movement can be seen as a critique of urbanization. The source material corroborates a dichotomy between the city and the countryside and attributes danger to the city while it sees the countryside as a natural place to live. Sweden's allotment garden movement could also be seen as a way to nurture the inhabitants of the city by giving them a relationship with nature and keeping them away from dangers like alcohol. The essay also shows that the Swedish movement has been influenced by both the English and the German movements. Because the French movement is younger than the other two international movements it hasn’t influenced the Swedish allotments as much. Both the Swedish and German allotments are called colonies, which shows that both of them had a similar purpose to attract people back to the countryside. Lastly, the study has shown that the Swedish allotment garden movement was influenced by the English garden city movement and can be seen as a compromise to the dichotomy of city and countryside.

Koloniträdgårdens plats i (den täta) staden: En studie av koloniträdgårdarnas värden och framtid i Stockholms stad / The space for the allotment in the (dense) city: A study of the values and future of allotments in The City of Stockholm

Jonsson, Beata January 2022 (has links)
The ongoing urbanization leads to more and more densified cities. While new housing is needed, the city's residents need green environments for recreation and production of ecosystem services. One place in the city that, among other things, offers recreational opportunities, ecosystem services and biodiversity are allotment gardens. The gardening interest has increased substantially in recent years, which is made apparent through the long queues for allotments in Stockholm. Even though allotments bring multiple benefits, allotment gardens are not always inclusive or accessible to all city residents. This work therefore aims to investigate the future space for the allotment in the city from a social sustainability perspective. The role of the allotment in the city based on accessibility and inclusion is examined, as well as how different actors in the city consider the values and future of the allotments in Stockholm. By studying literature and previous research, some of the allotments' functions and values in the city are identified. In addition, a case study on allotments in The City of Stockholm is carried out, which includes both a document study and interviews with actors who operate in the Stockholm region. The results from the case study show that allotments in Stockholm can be ascribed to many different values: biodiversity, ecosystem services, recreational areas, beautiful walking paths and safety in the city among others. Several of the actors emphasize the importance of open and accessible areas for walking, as well as the importance of keeping allotment cottages and rents reasonably priced. None of the actors believe that new allotment gardens with cottage plots will be built, but possibly areas with cultivation plots. On the other hand, it is likely that existing areas will remain for the next 20 years and that measures for increasing accessibility to the city's allotment gardens will be implemented.
