Perceptions of Mentors and New Teachers: A Case Study of a Mentoring Program in Northeast Tennessee.Wallace, Gregory Scott 19 December 2009 (has links) (PDF)
This study included 9 new teachers all of whom were assigned master teachers as mentors. The study also included 11 mentor teachers who participated in this study. There were 20 participants in this case study. The study was conducted in the Johnson City School System.
This qualitative case study was conducted by interviewing 20 participants in the mentoring program. Eleven mentor teachers and 9 new teachers were chosen through purposeful sampling. A list of possible participants was obtained from the Johnson City Schools Central Office and an email was sent to possible participants explaining the nature of the study. Participants signed an Informed Consent Form (Appendix D) and an interview guide was used (Appendix A). Probes, an interview technique that allows the interviewer to delve deeper following an interviewee's response was used to gain a richer understanding of the respondents' views (Merriam, 1998).
During data analysis, 8 themes were identified as having positive or negative results of the mentoring process. These themes were: (a) relationships, (b) common planning time, (c) similar personality styles, (d) teaching practices, (e) program structure, (f) support system, (g) classroom organization and management, and (h) equal learning opportunities.
Based on the research the following conclusions were presented. Mentoring programs are an important part of teacher induction. Positive relationships are critical to fostering successful mentoring teams. Common planning is essential to maximize the mentoring process. Strong support systems assist mentors and new teachers. Mentoring is an important component of successful transitions into a new school.
Recommendations for enhancing the mentoring program included the following: To have a long-term study that tracks the progress of new teachers over a 3-year period. To include administration as a part of the initial training program study. To compare and contrast the difference between first career new teachers and those who have had previous careers and examine how the mentoring process affects the different populations.

Scoop optimization : A preliminary studyArtola, Bixente January 2019 (has links)
Scoops are important parts in an aircraft engine design, as they provide airflowto different equipment and subsystems. The optimization of such a component isessential in order to find a design that can perform properly within a range of flightconditions, with a minimum impair of main flow aerodynamic performances. Scoopdesign methods are generally based on previous experimental results and are usuallyconstrained by the limited space available. The studied configuration concerns theflush scoop located inside the secondary flow of turbofans which provides flow fora turbine cooling equipment. Depending on flight conditions and engine workingpoint, this scoop will experience various flow regimes, from low mass flow rates tochoke flows. Therefore, the study of several scooped mass flow rates is mandatoryto extract the scoop behaviour. The thesis concerns the preliminary step beforea 3D CFD optimization : a study of influence is run on the baseline geometry inorder to investigate the robustness of the solution computed using different methodsand to determine the parameters to be optimized. Firstly, the full post-processingmethodology is defined to properly evaluate the performance of a design (scoopefficiency, induced pressure losses). A second step consists in analysing the abilityof CFD solvers to capture the different flow behaviour. This point is addressed bycomparing solvers (Fluent, elsA, PowerFLOW), meshes (structured, unstructured)and turbulence models. The third step deals with the optimization strategy definitionto improve the scoop design and thus the engine fuel consumption.

Agapē-Centered Epistemology: Christian Life in the Master StorySasaki, Timothy D. 27 March 2014 (has links)

The purpose of the following is to construct a theological epistemology from analytic religious epistemology and Christian theology. Paul K. Moser's religious epistemology provides an evidentialist account of volitional epistemology centered in agapē. Philippians 2:5-11 and its biblical-theological context grounds the historic and eschatological life of Jesus as the basis and means to participate in agapē. Moser's epistemological framework is reconstructed with the master story to provide a setting for Kingdom practices and imaginary. I argue that knowing the Triune God through agapē centers Kingdom participation. Christians imitate the master story in Philippians 2:5-11 to cultivate agapē through Kingdom participation.
/ Thesis / Master of Theological Studies (MTS)

A redundancy software design for joint radio resource management system in a satellite-terrestrial based aeronautical communication networkCheng, Yongqiang, Xu, Kai J., Hu, Yim Fun January 2013 (has links)
No / This paper presents a Master/Slave redundancy mechanism for the airborne Integrated Modular Radio to improve the reliability of the joint radio resource management (JRRM) system. The proposed mechanism adopts keep-alive heart beat messages and real time information synchronization to ensure a smooth switchover in the event of a platform failure. To enhance the scalability and decoupling of the system, the proposed hot swap solution makes the JRRM switchover transparent to both the higher layers and the lower layers. The experiment results and the performance obtained from the test-bed has proved the validity of the solution.
