為台灣主權奮戰:民主進步黨在憲政改革的角色與影響 / The struggle for a Taiwan sovereignty - the role and impact of the Democratic Progressive Party in constitutional reforms

班高仁, Ben,Goren Unknown Date (has links)
This thesis examines the role and impact of Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party upon the constitutional reforms of 1991 to 2005 with a view to asking to what extent these reforms either strengthened or weakened the Taiwanese sovereignty the party aspired to establish and consolidate within a wholly Taiwanese national polity. The party’s ability to influence the course of reforms are placed in the broader context of ROC constitutional history and foreign influence upon the status of Taiwan. The research focuses on the party’s linking of the ROC constitution and question of Taiwanese sovereignty, and the negotiated choices it made both during the period of democratisation in Taiwan and when it was in power. This thesis will argue that the need to enact significant institutional change and meet electoral goals whilst lacking a clear legislative majority largely constrained the DPP's ability to achieve substantive rather than symbolic reform. The ROC constitution remains in force and, though amended, it signifies to the world that Taiwan is officially a Chinese nation whose sovereignty belongs to the ROC state. Yet, in practice, Taiwanese also exercise a popular and practical national democratic sovereignty and a clear de facto independence of national self-determination. That the KMT and DPP both used the reform of the apparatus of the ROC state to advance the building of their respective visions of what nation Taiwan would be, has led to the question of Taiwan’s sovereignty ultimately remaining unresolved and her independence insecure. The DPP's role in the constitutional reform process was a major contributor to this outcome. / This thesis examines the role and impact of Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party upon the constitutional reforms of 1991 to 2005 with a view to asking to what extent these reforms either strengthened or weakened the Taiwanese sovereignty the party aspired to establish and consolidate within a wholly Taiwanese national polity. Media frames of artificial intelligence : A comparative study between USA and China

Wartiainen, Michelle January 2020 (has links)
This thesis studies the frequency in which certain views regarding artificial intelligence appear in American and Chinese newspapers. Given the general lack of studies focusing on media frames in the world’s two leading AI superpowers, this thesis contributes to the research on how AI is covered, and how it might relate to the international context. By examining survey data and previous literature, key frames are identified which can be assumed to affect the public’s perception of artificial intelligence. The analytical tool was used in a small-scale quantitative content analysis of 96 newspaper articles. If brief, the results show that the most frequent views of artificial intelligence is expressed in geopolitical, economic, and cultural terms. American newspapers have a higher mention of frames relating to ethics, discrimination and accountability. Furthermore, the results indicate that AI industry products are not as commonly mentioned as previous research have shown. Few articles mentioned artificial intelligence from a dystopian or utopian standpoint. The findings suggest that the reporting about artificial intelligence is not as focused on the AI technologies, but rather how AI as an adopted concept will be a tool, used for national strategies, and hence relevant to include when conducting future studies on artificial intelligence in media.

Čínská energetická bezpečnost a politika vůči Africe / China's energy security and policy towards Africa

Harmašová, Natálie January 2018 (has links)
The goal of the thesis was to shed light on the ways in which the People's Republic of China secures its energy security and identify the role of Chinese investments in Africa. The economic development results in increased demand for energy resources. In 1993 China became a net oil importer. Conceptualization of energy security in China consists in strengthening relations with oil-rich countries. In certain areas such as industry, transportation and military oil represents for now to that extent of use an irreplaceable source of energy. Therefore I will focus on activities of the People's Republic of China. More specifically, I will focus on investment activities of China in Sudan/South Sudan and Libya. Compared to the West, China seems to be a convenient business partner as it abides by the noninterference into another state's affairs rule. The rationale behind this principle is that every state has a right to choose its model of governance development while taking into consideration its unique conditions. Additionally, China puts emphasis on mutual benefits of South-South cooperation and does not condition investments with the request for changes in political system and banking sector of a recipient state. China chooses its partner countries based on political and stability and state of security...
