(Department of Visual Arts and Design: Fine Art, Faculty of Human Sciences), Vaal University of Technology. / My practice-based research aimed to produce commemorative portraits of black women in key positions who are associated with the Vaal Region. The study was undertaken in order to contribute to the empowering, positive and growing body of creative research on the visual representation of black women in the visual art field. My concern lies in the dearth of artistic representation of black women, particularly from the Vaal Region and with the hegemonic Westernised portrayal of black women in a Visual Arts discipline dominated by prejudiced attitudes towards issues of race and gender. This was accomplished in two steps. Firstly, through the examination of black feminist theories which underpin my theoretical framework, and further challenge and draw attention to the omissions, invisibility, non-recognition and negative portrayal of black women. In addition selected techniques in artworks of Zanele Muholi, Karina Turok, Sue Williamson and Bongi Bengu have been appropriated to create my body of work. Secondly, I utilise commemorative portraiture to produce iconic portraits of advocate Faith Pansy Tlakula, Professor Ntombekayise Irene Moutlana, Professor Kholeka Constance Moloi, Avitha Sooful, Lerato Moloi, Terry Pheto, Lira, Palesa Mokubung and the late mama Adelaide Tambo which were exhibited in the bodutu gallery accompanied by a catalogue and a comment book. Both of these methods are qualitatively explored as creative strategies to portray and award agency positively to black women through Third World readings of gendered perspectives.

This diploma thesis deals with Czech portrait medals in the past and present. The aim was to map Czech medal portrait work from its origins in the Renaissance to the present. At the beginning, the work is focused on the precious metals from which the medals are made, gold and silver. The history of gold and silver is included in the theory. The concepts of numismatics or commemorative medals made of gold and silver as investment preservation of real value are clarified. We were interested in the overall artistic process of producing portrait medal into the final product. The historical development of medals in the Czech lands followed. In each period, important artists, medalists, and their work are mentioned. All chapters contain pictorial materials. The practical part is devoted to all existing mintages of Karel Gott, which is a unique medal investment. Along with him, contemporary medal artists are characterized in more detail. In the end, the first findings about the portrait medal are summarized. The work brings an overall view of portrait medal work. Medal making represents a specific area of fine and sculptural art. Denna uppsats behandlade material i form av fotografier och fotoalbum från tidsperioden 1850 – tidig 1900-talet. Tre fotoalbum valdes ut och jämförelsestudier utfördes på handplockade fotografier.Frågeställningar som utöver skulle besvaras var följande: • Hur har fotografen vald att avbilda personer och kan man utgöra mönster eller skillnader i avbildningen mellan kvinnor/män? • Ger fotografierna några konkreta ledtrådar för att kunna tidsbestämma dessa?• Kan man se en tydlig hierarki i hur fotografierna är placerade i fotoalbum tre? I undersökningen kom fram att fotografen hade flera olika rekvisita till hjälp, för det mesta stolar, böcker och olika bakgrunder när personer fotograferades. Undersökningen gav dock inget svar på om kunderna kunde välja mellan olika rekvisita eller om fotografen valde ut dessa. Vidare hände det väldigt sällan att fotografen dirigerade kundens blick direkt in i kameran, i de flesta fotografier syns kundens blick vara riktad mot vänster om kamerans lens, även överkroppen är bortvänd från kameran. I vissa fotografier syntes männen fortfarande iklädda sina ytterkläder medan kvinnorna avbildades utan ytterkläder på. Ett förförande som var traditionellt förankrad i visitkortsfotografier under denna period.Tidsbestämningen av fotografierna gjordes dels med hjälp av fotografregistret där fotografernas verksamhetstid är nedskriven och med hjälp av en manual från Skelleftebygden. Ett släktträd upprättades som hjälpmedel till frågeställningen om möjliga hierarkier fanns i fotoalbum nummer 3.Uppsatsens diskussionsdel belyste också hur fotoalbum 3 som hade mest metadata knuten till sig troligen användes av ägaren. Det visade sig att det fanns ett slags hierarki i placeringen av fotografierna i albumet som undersöktes med hänsyn till en engelsk publikation av James Granger och iakttagelser av den svenska forskaren Anna Dahlgren. En tydlig ordning där första bilden är av ägarens föräldrar följd av fotografier föreställande ägarens farmor och mormor. Efter detta presenterades först faderns sida och sedan moderns sida. Albumet avslutades med en serie av fotografier av ett så kallad ”gubbkräk” som fick trots sin höga ställning inom militären placeringen längs bak i albumet där i annan forskning brottslingar eller personer med missväxt placerades. Utöver detta verkade fotoalbum nummer 3 ha används i sammanhang med privata sammankomster såsom släktmiddagar. Förhoppningen med upptäckten att det kan finnas en hierarki i dessa fotoalbum är att flera arkivinstitutioner ändrar sitt arbetssätt i hur man tar emot och förvarar fotoalbum i framtiden.

"At Face Value: Investigating Perception through Portraiture" is a body of work that examines how people process their perception in imagery. The Deadpan Aesthetic, photographic truth and American identity are discussed, as well as the amount of influence a photographer has in his work. Since perception is defined as an understanding of setting via the senses, I hope to challenge viewers by employing strategies to destabilize the viewer's reception of my photographs.

The dissertation is devoted to the complex analysis of the semantics of foreign vocabulary in the modern Russian language. The actual thematic groups of borrowings, functioning in the space of the Urals city, were identified, their ideographic description was given, and function in modern urban advertising was substantiated. The features of the development of non-equivalent borrowing and borrowing with equivalents in the host language were shown. The semantics of tokens mainstream and performance in modern speech was analyzed and lexicographic portrait of these words was done. / Диссертация посвящена комплексному анализу семантики иноязычной лексики в современном русском языке. Выявлены актуальные тематические группы заимствований, функционирующих в пространстве уральского города, дано их идеографическое описание и обоснованы функции в современной городской рекламе. Показаны особенности освоения безэквивалентных заимствований и заимствований, имеющих эквиваленты в принимающем языке. Проанализирована семантика лексем мейнстрим и перформанс в современной речи и составлен лексикографический портрет этих слов.

Магистерская диссертация содержит описание речевого портрета Евгения Ройзмана, известного уральского общественного деятеля и блогера. В работе обобщены основные лингвистические подходы к изучению языковой личности и описанию речевого портрета, отражены основные характеристики блога как жанра интернет-коммуникации. Выявлена лингвокогнитивная, прагматическая и стилистическая специфика речевого портрета блогера Евгения Ройзмана. / The master's thesis contains a description of the speech portrait of Yevgeny Roizman known as a famous Ural public figure and blogger. Fundamental linguistic approaches to learning linguistic personality and describing speech portrait are summarized and main characterictics of blog as an Internet communication genre are reflected in the work. The author has identified cognitive, pragmatic and stylistic specifics of the speech portrait of the blogger Yevgeny Roizman.

В магистерской диссертации на материале повестей И. С. Тургенева “Ася”, “Первая любовь” представлены опыт лингвостилистического портретирования тургеневской девушки. Охарактеризован ментально специфический лингвокультурный типаж, описаны приметы индивидуально-специфической речевой манеры героинь Тургенева – Аси и княжны Зинаиды Засекиной. / In my master’s thesis on the material of novels “Asya”, “First love” by I. S. Turgenev are presented the experience of formal portraiture Turgenev girl. The mentally specific linguo-cultural type is characterized, there are described the signs of the individual-specific speech mannerisms of the heroines of Turgenev – Asya and Princess Zinaida Zasekinoy.

В настоящей магистерской диссертации описывается социолингвистический портрет Дональда Трампа, президента США. В работе обобщены лингвистические подходы к изучению языковой личности и описанию социолингвистического портрета, отражены основные характеристики речи его предвыборной кампании. Выявлена лингвокогнитивная и лингвопрагматическая специфика социолингвистического портрета Дональда Трампа. / The master’s theses contains a description of the sociolinguistic portrait of Donald Trump, president of USA. Fundamental linguistic approaches to learning linguistic personality and describing sociolinguistic portrait are summarized and main characteristics of speeches of the presidential campaign are reflected in the work. The author has identified cognitive and pragmatic specifics of sociolinguistic portrait of Donald Trump.

В данной магистерской диссертации рассматривается нелинейная модель взаимодействия иммунных и опухолевых клеток под воздействием химиотерапии. Данная модель является модификацией уже известной модели Кузнецова, в которой отсутствует лечение. В работе был проведен бифуркационный анализ в зависимости от коэффициента интенсивности лечения. В ходе анализа было выявлено три характерных состояния системы: "активная опухоль", "спящая опухоль" и "нулевая опухоль". Для равновесных и автоколебательных режимов найдены параметрические зоны сосуществования и определены сепаратисты, разделяющие бассейны соответствующих аттракторов. Найдены оценки параметра интенсивности химиотерапии, при котором возможно как удержание системы в режиме «спящей̆» опухоли, так и ее полное подавление. Для стохастической̆ модели описаны сценарии результатов воздействия случайных возмущений на режимы динамического взаимодействия иммунных и опухолевых клеток. Исследованы условия, при которых индуцированные шумом переходы играют позитивную роль, приводя к резкому сокращению опухолевых клеток. / We study a two-dimensional model of the dynamical interaction of immune and tumor cells under chemotherapy. This model is a modification of the well-known model which was studied by Kuznetsov but without treatment. A bifurcation analysis of the deterministic model was carried out depending on the parameter of the intensity of chemotherapy. It has been shown that the system admits three characteristic states: "active", "dormant", and "zero" tumor. For this multistable system, a description of the equilibrium and self-oscillating modes is given, and the basins of coexisting attractors are determined. We have found estimates of the doses of chemotherapy to keep tumor in the "dormant" regime or to suppress it completely. For the stochastic model, parametric estimates of the probability of transitions between the "active" and "dormant" or "zero" tumor modes were obtained, as well as the conditions under which random disturbances play a positive role, leading to a sharp reduction in the population of tumor cells.
