Análise evolutiva da qualidade de vida urbana nos distritos ao sul do município de São Paulo através de práticas de geoprocessamento / Evolutionary analysis of the quality of urban life in the southern districts of São Paulo through practices of Gis

Martini, Bibiana 12 September 2011 (has links)
The discussion about the quality of life is a very important issue in geographical science because it deals with the interaction of society and its territory in other words, considering both social and economic aspects (they are how a certain society is organized) and physical-territorial and environmental, for a better territory development. The main objective of this work is the evolutionary analysis of the quality of urban life in the southern districts of São Paulo between the 1990 and 2000 decades. As a basement methodological we have evolutionary and comparative analysis mechanism is used the method of analysis considered as a whole (the quality of urban life) and its component parts (analysis variables) including: population data, urban infrastructure in many aspects of that. It is important emphasize that this analysis is based on census data and orbital data - IKONOS II satellite images and aerial photographs. We used as category of analysis we have the overlapping between census data and residential areas (ZRH), associating it with the socio-economic reality of the population to urban expansion of São Paulo. As a result we have some interesting observations: first, it was possible to assess which portions of space in the index of quality of urban life (mostly) are closer to the city center. And also the percentage of conditional of basic infrastructure have percentages that were reasonable and accompanying the axis of the urban development, i.e., the city expands and then the services are being met, but with significant time intervals. The IQVU had significant changes when comparing the two dates, a decrease in the overall development of the index. These changes range from a greater heterogeneity of the available index of census tracts that presents us with the categories \"B\" and \"C\" covering most of the area. In the 1990s we have supremacy in the area and covered by the census category \"B\" and the 2000s have the highest percentage of area covered by \"C\". In addition we have changes to the categories \"A\" and \"D\" that in relation to their totals are significant, but compared to IQVU for the entire study area are quite modest.

Male Subjectivity in the Narratives of Daniel Defoe and Jonathan Swift

Shih, Yao-hsi 11 September 2007 (has links)
This thesis argues that all subjects are constructed through discourse or ideology and are incapable of acting or thinking outside the limits of that discursive or ideological construction. Based on Louis Althusser¡¦s theory, ¡§individuals are always-already subjects,¡¨ living in ¡§the system of the ideas and representations which dominate the mind of a man or a social group.¡¨ This Marxist notion serves as the point of departure for the thesis, which defines a subject¡¦s imaginary relation to the world. For Defoe and Swift, their ideological subjection to ¡§the system of the ideas and representations¡¨ is presented in their narratives, which relate the respective subject¡¦s imagination to the world in the eighteenth century. The first chapter begins with Ian Watt¡¦s critique of the eighteenth century individualism, which demands domestic alienation. It argues that if Gulliver¡¦s misanthropy loses its moral dimension, his domestic alienation is questionable. As Gulliver¡¦s counterpart, Crusoe bases his autonomy upon nonreciprocal human relationships, and his self-claimed omnipotence, under constant threats, is false and illusory. The second chapter modifies Helene Moglen¡¦s dualistic interpretation of Crusoe¡¦s consciousness and analyzes his internal contradictions from the perspective of Hegelian dialectics. The course of establishing the colonial hierarchy in Robinson Crusoe further exposes the dialectical reality of colonial tension and contradiction, which also lends itself to interpreting the triangular relationships among the Houyhnhnms, Gulliver, and the Yahoos in Gulliver¡¦s Travels. In the third chapter, the focus of concern shifts to the representation of sexual other. Though Roxana and Moll are constructed to emulate Crusoe and embody the female versions of economic autonomy, these two female-based narratives, Roxana and Moll Flanders, bring to light the paradoxes of eighteenth-century male subjectivity that discriminates men from women in terms of domesticity and individualism. While Roxana is further commodified to be enlisted in the service of imperialist ideology to mask the reality of colonial aggression and imperialist expansion, the same sleight of substitution also underlies Swift¡¦s systematic attacks on women in his Irish Tracts and misogynist poems. Lastly, the fourth chapter aims to bring these two categories of difference together. Through Swift¡¦s and Defoe¡¦s imagination, the racial other and their sexual counterpart enter into a metaphorical alliance. Thus Defoe¡¦s Amazon and Swift¡¦s Yahoo trope not only synthesize what are considered two discrete and separate categories of discrimination, but also demonstrate that their creations of race and gender derive from the same source of reference.

No. of bitstreams: 1 JoséAAP_TESE.pdf: 2535054 bytes, checksum: a8a22b4b978072b52ec90d367a58f9e5 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-04-29 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The culture of banana plantation, besides presenting a differential with respect to the intake of agricultural inputs, being little demanding on their use, is a culture of production cycle quite short, where it is possible to achieve crops with economic return in the first year. The aim of this research was to evaluate the growth, productivity and quality of different banana cultivars in response to the use of different types of plants. We accomplished an experiment on the farm Terra Santa, Quixeré/CE, in order to evaluate the behavior of banana plantation cultivars propagated through conventional system. Köppen classification for the climate of the two regions is BSwh’, hot and dry. With basis on the results obtained, we assembled three essays, the first one was in factorial scheme 2 x 3, with four blocks and six repetitions in each block to study the growth and development of the two banana cultivars propagated by rhizome and meristems and cultivated with conventional management; the second one was a DIC in factorial scheme 6 x 3, with eight repetitions, in order to assess the behavior of the treatments tested for cultivars when submitted to 20 days stored under refrigeration and the third one was a DIC in factorial scheme 6 x 3, with two repetitions, in order to evaluate the behavior of the treatments tested for cultivars when submitted to fifteen days stored under refrigeration and five days of packaging in ambient temperature. The results showed the number of alive leaves per plant of cultivar Prata-anã surpassed Pacovan cultivar and there was not significant effects between cultivars for the features of flowering range and number of alive blooms in the flowering period. The effect of the range from planting to the crop is highly associated to the effect of the range from the flowering to crop. The cultivar Prata-anã overcame the cultivar Pacovan in the number of bunches per cluster and in the number of fruit per bunch. The cultivar Pacovan overcame the Prata-anã on the effects of length, diameter and fruit weight from the essay. The storage of banana fruit under refrigeration was efficient on delaying the process of post-harvest fruit maturation. The cultivar Prata-anã propagated by rhizome with “bait” was the most efficient propagation technique, among all tested, on the obtaining of soluble solids and acidity level, but obtained the lowest pH rate.

Mauricio Yamada 19 February 2016 (has links)
This research has as main purpose to develop types of demographic density representation from the Região Metropolitana de São Paulo (RMSP). Its believed that studies could establish useful work methodologies to subsidize planning actions and management of this complex metropolis. Studies develop a procedure with spatial analysis accomplished in GIS environment, the dasymetric treatment. The dasymetric treatment seeks to solve certain inconsistencies from choropleth method, when this is applied to a census basis, for this auxiliary basis of information is needed to better locate the distribution of population density. Such procedure is timely because it can count on considerable cartographic property available to the study site. To give consistency for performed procedures, revises with a humanistic bias, looking for understand the evolution status of Cartography, positioning the spatial analysis amid other languages, cartographic chains and their discussions.

Access to Healthy Foods: A Descriptive Analysis of Farmers’ Markets, Food Deserts & USDA Food Assistance Programs in Tennessee Census Tracts

Wadlington, Twanda D 01 December 2017 (has links) (PDF)
Food deserts are a growing problem in the United States, and occur in areas of low-income where people have limited access to healthy foods. In response, the presence of farmers’ markets has grown exponentially, and improved healthy food access. Additionally, the USDA has strived to connect families to healthy foods through food assistance programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), and the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP). This study investigated the relationship between farmers’ markets, their acceptance of food assistance benefits, and their locations within Tennessee food deserts census tracts. Using the 2017 Farmers’ Market Directory, this study merged market data, including geocoded addresses, with the appropriate census tract data from the 2015 Food Access Research Atlas. Chi-square tests of independence and spatial visualizations were used to assess the relationship of census tracts, farmers markets, and food assistance benefits. Of the 1,497 Tennessee census tracts, 18.0% were food deserts. Of these food deserts, 9.3% had at least one market present. Of these food deserts, 92.0% were urban. Of 130 farmers’ markets in Tennessee, 34.6% accepted any food assistance benefits. Additionally, 56.9% of all markets were in areas of high socioeconomic status (SES). Results indicated that markets were clustered in urban areas, and few were identified as food deserts. Additionally, few markets were in food deserts and accepted any food assistance benefit. Due to these findings, the definition of food deserts should be expanded to include additional food retailers other than supermarkets. Also, additional policies and research is needed to reinforce farmers’ markets and food assistance programs as food access interventions.

Porosity development in Pennsylvanian core from Table Mesa and Rattlesnake Fields, northwestern New Mexico

Culpepper, Jonathan David 02 May 2009 (has links)
Table Mesa and Rattlesnake Fields are located on the Four Corners Platform, New Mexico, between the Paradox Basin to the north and San Juan Basin to the south. Diagenesis is extensive and includes partial dissolution and replacement of ooids, partial silicification of allochems and matrix, and filling of pore space with large, blocky calcite. Pore types include interparticle, intraparticle, and vuggy, with much porosity lost to late cementation. Porosity is greatest in cycles interpreted as regressive deposits with meteoric and burial diagenesis being most significant to porosity enhancement. Sea level and depositional history are shown to be significantly useful in predicting patterns of porosity development and destruction. These results are directly applicable to other economically important carbonate platforms.

Networks of print, patronage and religion in England and Scotland 1580-1604 : the career of Robert Waldegrave

Emmett, Rebecca Jane January 2013 (has links)
This thesis seeks to examine the nature of the intertwined networks of print, patronage and religion that existed within and across England and Scotland between 1580 and 1604, through the career of the English printer Robert Waldegrave. Multifaceted and complex, Waldegrave’s career spanned two countries, four decades and numerous controversies. To date scholars have engaged in a teleological narrative of his career, culminating in his involvement with the Marprelate press between April 1588/9. This focus on Waldegrave as a religious radical has coloured accounts of his English business and resulted in his Scottish career being disregarded by many. This thesis adds to the growing body of scholarship concerning printers and the print trade, illustrating the varied role Waldegrave played, both in relation to the texts he produced and within a broader trans-national context of print There are three major thematic areas of enquiry; whether Waldegrave’s characterization by contemporary commentators and subsequent scholars as a Puritan printer is accurate; what his career in Scotland between 1590 and 1603 reveals about the Scottish print trade, and finally the role and significance of the various networks of print, patronage and religion within which he operated in regards to his own career as well as in the broader context of early modern religious and commercial printing. Challenging the reductive interpretation of Waldegrave’s life and career, this thesis places the Marprelate episode within the wider framework of his English and Scottish careers, enabling traditional assumptions about his motivation and autonomy to be questioned and reevaluated. It will be shown that the accepted image of Waldegrave as a committed Puritan printer, developed and disseminated by his representation within the Marprelate tracts was actually a misrepresentation of his position and that the reality was far more nuanced. His choices were informed by commercial concerns and the various needs of the networks of print, patronage and religion within which he worked, which often limited his ability to promote the religious beliefs he held. The study of Waldegrave and his English contemporaries within the Scottish print trade expands our knowledge of the relationship between the print trades of England and Scotland and highlights how intertwined they were during this period. Waldegrave’s Scottish career, and the significance of his complicated relationship with his royal patron, James VI will be established and the wider impact and significance of Waldegrave’s appointment as Royal printer demonstrated. As he worked as a minor jobbing printer, a fugitive on a clandestine press and as the Royal Printer in Scotland Waldegrave is one of a small number of stationers whose career was extremely varied. Through the study of Waldegrave’s unique and multifaceted career it is therefore possible to trace and analyse the complex networks within which he, and his fellow stationers operated during the late-sixteenth century.
