THE ACCURACY OF PREDICTING ONE-REPETITION MAXIMUM FROM SUBMAXIMAL VELOCITY IN THE BACK SQUAT AND BENCH PRESSUnknown Date (has links)
This study examined the accuracy of predicting back squat and bench press one repetition maximum (1RM) from submaximal average concentric velocity (ACV).Seventeen resistance trained men performed a warm-up and 1RM test on the squat and bench press, in which ACV was assessed on all repetitions. The ACVs during the warmup closest to 1.0 and 0.5 m.s-1 were used in a 2-point linear regression forecast of 1RM and the ACVs established at the loads closest to 20, 50, 70, and 80% of 1RM were used in a 4-point 1RM prediction. An ANOVA indicated significant differences between predicted and actual 1RM for all predictions (p<0.001). Both Bland-Altman and Mountain plots confirmed the findings of the ANOVA as data were not tightly conformed to the respective zero difference lines. Implementation of a structured training program for retrospective video analysis of Parkinson's diseaseEden, Gabrielle Marie 21 February 2019 (has links)
INTRODUCTION: Retrospective video analysis (RVA) has been a popular method of analysis in many research fields, evidenced by autism behavioral research, child play behavior, and caregiver-resident interactions (Baranek, 1999; Gilchrist et al., 2018; Gilmore-Bykovskyi, 2015). Given the widespread use of RVA, the number of studies using it to augment their study designs provide sparse details about the training methods for this level of analysis, making it difficult to maintain a standard level of rigor across different institutions (Haidet, Tate, Divirgilio-Thomas, Kolanowski, & Happ, 2009).
METHODS: A structured training program was developed for naïve coders (n=5). The structured training program was composed of five stages with careful introduction of behaviors and regular checkpoints.
Statistical Analysis: The output generated by the naïve trainees was analyzed with paired t-tests, Fisher’s Exact Test, ANOVA, percent agreement, and Cohen’s kappa.
RESULTS: No difference was found between the different trainees, demonstrating the trainees were trained to a similar level of expertise. The overall recognition of behaviors increased by 2.1% from the first to last training video analysis. Discrete behaviors had a higher level of agreement.
CONCLUSIONS: The structured training program demonstrated a small increase in the recognition of behaviors, with a higher recognition in the derived MDS-UPDRS behaviors.

Modification of Training Methods and Alarm Thresholds: Two Ways to Reduce Potential Hazardous Clinical Alarm Related IncidentsShanmugham, Manikantan 14 December 2018 (has links)
Within the healthcare system, nurses, are involved in many critical steps of the patient care process such as surgery triaging, post-procedure recovery monitoring and handoff release to a caregiver. A significant portion of their time is spent on the hospital floors where patients recover from their medical procedures. In today’s healthcare environments, multiple devices – typically monitors, ventilators, and infusion pumps – are used during said patient recovery process. Health equipment manufacturers often add alarms to medical devices, which serve a variety of purposes, ranging from simple notifications to warnings and alerts about potential hazards that require rapid action. In typical hospital units, several types of medical devices that monitor a variety of parameters based on patient and nurses/assistants needs. Many devices have similar alarm tones, regardless of risk levels. A typical nurse will attend to multiple patients, and the number of alarms that require attention place tremendous demands on nurses’ cognition, which causes enormous alarm fatigue. Alarm fatigue is not a new phenomenon and is very common in other industries, such as chemical processing, and nuclear power. The additional stress and burden of false alarms and non-actionable alarms is also troublesome. Many for-profit companies have developed commercial alarm management tools and aids to combat these problems and the rapid adoption of smart phones and tablets in healthcare has made alarm management more mobile and visual. However, even after these advances, the number of deaths and adverse events are still at an unacceptable level. The purpose of this study to establish that the current training methods used by various hospitals are inadequate and to explore the effects of rigorous one-on-one training and metacognitive intervention in managing alarm related adverse events. This study also identifies deficiencies in the current training methods and assesses the impact of individualizing alarm threshold settings on alarm workload, response and error rates.

Anotation Title: Managing the training process in bodybuilding This thesis describes the sport of bodybuilding and its training process. It also describes aspects of managing the training process and based on own research determines what impact the training process is applied to changes in the state of training and performance. There is also considering the impact of specific training methods and intensification. In the research of this thesis, we used different testing methods. We performed functional tests, anthropometric measurements and biochemical tests. Based on these tests, we studied the effect of training programs for performance in bodybuilding. We found that the use of specific methods and intensification has a significant influence on the performance of bodybuilding. We also found that effective management of training process has an overall positive effect on performance status in the bodybuilding sport. RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN VELOCITY AND REPETITIONS IN RESERVE IN THE BACK SQUAT, BENCH PRESS, AND DEADLIFTUnknown Date (has links)
This study examined the relationship between average concentric velocity (ACV) and repetitions in reserve (RIR) in the back squat, bench press, and deadlift. Fourteen resistance-trained men performed three experimental sessions (one for each exercise), which was comprised of 4 sets to failure at 80% of one-repetition maximum. The ACV was recorded on every repetition of every set and cross-referenced with RIR. The main findings of this study were that RIR was a significant predictor of ACV for all three exercises; the mean set ACV was significantly different between exercises (p<0.001); and the relationship between RIR and ACV was set-dependent (p<0.001). However, the within-exercise difference in ACV from set-to-set is unlikely to be practically significant as all of these ACV differences were below the threshold of 0.06 m.s-1, which is the smallest worthwhile change in ACV.
