Body Builder

Yurga, Emre 18 December 2009 (has links)
My thesis is a critical essay thematically focused on the fate of the body in the postmodern condition. In this thesis a fundamental question is posed: What happens to the (postmodern) body under the double pressure of postmodern technology and culture? Is the postmodern body altered under the pressure of postmodern technology and culture? How contemporary thought and architecture impact the body will also be examined. This thesis discusses the above questions through several key concepts such as exilic conditions, heterotopias and ‘trans’ states of being. After elaborating on these issues, this thesis attempts to design an architectural project “Hamam Complex” on a unique natural island in the Bosporus strait that separates the Western and Eastern worlds.

Satisfacción de necesidades psicológicas básicas en la relación de pareja de mujeres transexuales de Lima / Satisfaction of basic psychological needs in the relationship of transsexual women in Lima

Quesquen Pachamoro, Juan Gonzaga 25 January 2020 (has links)
The objective of this research is to explore and describe how couple’s relationship contributes to the satisfaction of psychological basic needs (PBN) on a group of transsexual women of Lima. PBN were approached through a qualitative study with phenomenological design in sex case studies. A semi-structured interview was conducted by each of the six transsexual residents of Metropolitan Lima of socioeconomic level B and C, who ranged between 26 and 61 years old. The results indicated that couple’s relationship achieves both satisfy and thwart the PBN of the participants. It was concluded that the process of satisfaction or thwart of the PBN of these transsexual women besides being the result of a behavior of their partners, can also occur in a combined way, creating complex networks where the satisfaction of a need can carry or hide the frustration of another or occur in reverse. / Tesis

Queering Polyamory: Configurations, Public Policy, and Lived Experiences

Gardner, Timothy 05 1900 (has links)
“Queering Polyamory: Configurations, Public Policy, and Lived Experiences” explores polyamory, a relationship “lovestyle” that involves more then one loving partner, while taking a close look at the social construction of modern day queer polyamory including marriage and sex law. The author states that queer polyamory is socially constructed due to its inclusion of self-identifying gay men, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, gender-variant, omnisexual, pansexual, and queer individuals. This thesis includes a study of participants involved in queer polyamorous relationships. The study concludes that a population that engages in queer polyamorous relationships is diverse in regards to demographics; this is to say state of residence, age, gender, ethnicity, religious/spiritual affiliation, sexual identity and/or orientation, and relationship identity and/or orientation and ways individuals come to be part of queer polyamorous relationships. The study looks at how “out” the participants are and how public policy is affecting the lives of those who engage in queer polyamorous relationships. In conclusion, this study suggests future research options and ways society and public policy can begin to alleviate some of the stressors those in queer polyamorous relationships feel due to public policy and morality law. / M.S.

Postavení travesti show v mediální kultuře / The role of travesti show in media culture

Provázková, Jana January 2019 (has links)
The diploma thesis The Role of Travesty Show in Media Culture is concerned with a question if we can find some similarities between the way how media presents travesty show and the way how people think and talk about this kind of entertainment. As a research method I chose qualitative content analysis and questionnaire. Theoretical part focuses on explanation of technical terms, history of homosexuality, queer culture, queer theory, travesty show and history. In practical part I will create concrete codes from qualitative content analysis and from these codes I will make categories. Part of practical part is also a questionnaire. In the end of this thesis I will compare the codes from qualitative content analysis with the answers from the questionnaire. And based on this comparison I will find out if there exist any similarities between the way how media presents travesty show and the way how people think and talk about this kind of entertainment.

The Future of GID NOS in the DSM 5: Report of the GID NOS Working Group of a Consensus Process Conducted by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health

Rachlin, Katherine, Dhejne, Cecilia, Brown, George R. 27 September 2010 (has links)
The DSM-IV-TR diagnosis Gender Identity Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (GID NOS) is used to describe individuals who have gender issues but do not meet the current criteria for GID. As part of a consensus process conducted by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, the authors make the following recommendations for DSM 5: removal from the chapter on sexual disorders, more specific diagnostic criteria, retention of clinical significance criteria, and removal of exclusionary criteria of Intersex/Disorders of Sex Development. Changes to the existing clinical examples were also recommended, suggesting additional clinical examples that encompass a broader range of gender-variance and more commonly found transgender presentations. The diagnosis must reflect the severity of the clinical issues that represent legitimate identity experiences and possible need for gender-confirming treatments.

“Doing” gender in South Africa : footprints of tension for transgender persons

Ramphele, Lesego Phenyo Will 03 1900 (has links)
Text in English / The ‘doing’ of gender in our society is constructed along the lines of power, knowledge and being. Power structures angle knowledge and understanding of transgender people and transgender lives in a way that relegates them almost to the museum to be observed as a spectacle or exotic objects. The emphatic frames of man and woman, even in South Africa where the Constitution is considered and understood to be liberal and generous, the life of a transgender body is an Other life. One is either male or female; any other form of doing and being gender suffers peripherisation and classification as special, different, strange or any other exteriorising definitions. This dissertation attempts to question the power or the tyranny of categorisations and classifications of man and woman, drawing from various discourses such as the medico-legal discourse classification. It further looks at how gender is being performed by transgender people. Further it aimed at gaining an in-depth understanding of the experiences and challenges of transgender people with regards to doing gender within a gendered society. The findings within the dissertation tells us, that the performativity of gender is not a neutral space, but enacted by various power structures and those who live outside the norms such as the transgender people, they are subjected to precariousness. It this dissertation seeks to contribute to an unmasking of some easy but harmful assumptions about gender and sexuality. Gender and sexuality may not be taken for granted and assumed according to fixed templates but they are fluid, mobile and flexible beyond the limits of convention. / Psychology / M.A. (Psychology (Research Consultation))

This dissertation analyses the female transsexual population in its specific issues relating to healthcare, throughout the Brazilian public health system, in concert with the federal government’s public policies, introduced since 2004, intended to be inclusive. This analysis is based upon the current Latin-American Bioethics approach – also known as “Bioethics of Protection” – and by the proposal of welcoming, “with no exception” all of those considered vulnerable actors. The method employed here is that of the critical conceptual and theoretical analysis, successively focused on the categories of “vulnerability”, “susceptibility” and “injury”.
