Strategies for Increasing Employee Morale and Mitigating Turnover in the Banking IndustryLadson, Deniqua Arshay 01 January 2019 (has links)
Bank leaders who fail to implement effective leadership strategies experience low employee morale and high employee turnover. The estimated failure rate of bank industry leadership to attain some organizational targets such as desired levels of employee morale, employee retention, and profitability is as high as 60%. The purpose of this single case study was to explore strategies bank leaders implemented to improve employee morale and mitigate employee turnover. The population for this study included 4 bank leaders in the United States who successfully applied effective leadership to improve morale and mitigate employee turnover for more than 5 years. Data were collected from semistructured interviews with bank leaders and from artifacts such as the company website. The transformational leadership theory guided this research as the conceptual framework. Data triangulation was employed. Data were analyzed using Yin’s 5 steps of data analysis. Three themes emerged from analysis of the data: adopting motivational leadership techniques, applying open and transparent communication skills, and applying recognition or rewards. The application of findings from this study could contribute to positive social change because society may benefit from an improved banking intermediation system to support employment retention and the improvement of citizens’ livelihoods.

Prevalence of Client Violence against Social Work Students and Its Effects on Fear of Future Violence, Occupational Commitment, and Career Withdrawal IntentionsCriss, Pamela Myatt 17 February 2009 (has links)
Social work literature has documented that social workers may be the victims of client violence. However, to date, no studies have documented the nationwide prevalence of client violence towards social work students. This study examined direct and indirect incidents of physical assault, threats of physical harm, verbal abuse, threats of lawsuit, and property damage. The randomly selected national sample of social work students were selected from the National Association of Social Workers (N = 595).
Findings revealed that 41.7% of social work students directly experienced client violence during their practicum. The highest rate of the violence reported by students was verbal abuse (37.5%) while the lowest rate of reported violence was physical assault (3.5%). Being male was the most significant predictor of social work students' exposure to client violence. Other factors related to increased violence were found, such as ethnicity and degree program. This study also examined whether students received safety training in 17 content areas and where they received the training. Fewer than 50% of students received training in most training content areas, regardless of where training was received. Furthermore, increased safety training in the field agency was significantly related to increased threats of physical harm and overall client violence. When training from all venues was totaled, increased training was significantly related to increased verbal abuse, property damage, and overall direct client violence.
This study found that when students experience client violence directly or indirectly, they have increased fear of future violence in social work practice. Implications for social work programs, field agencies and educators and social work students are discussed. Training content and strategies are suggested.

Personalomsättningens betydelse för personalutveckling / The significance of employee turnover for employee developmentPetrén, Karl January 2020 (has links)
This bachelor degree student thesis is a study about employee turnover in connection toemployee development. Employee turnover is closely connected to workplaces with a highlevel of stress and high tempo, which raises the question how learning takes place in such anenvironment. Since previous research and literature is lacking in this subject, this study willbe focusing on providing an universal description of the reality and possibilities for learningin this kind of environment. The method for this study has been a qualitative inquiry based on interviews. The people whohave been interviewed are a mixture of group leaders, HR staff and operations managers whoprovide insight into how their organizations manage employee development in connection toa high employee turnover. Their answers have then been studied based on basic research andliterature of employee development. The results of the study shows that these organizations have a strong focus on theintroduction and development of new employees. The organizations also rely on employeeslearning from each other when they are going to replace someone who's quit. The analysis ofthe situation in the organizations show a possibility for adopting a learning organizationmindset which could offer the stable development that the organizations require to managethe gap in knowledge left by former staff. The conclusion of the study is that there exists possibilities for employee development in anenvironment with high employee turnover but it is not optimal. Continued research in thisfield could provide methods and perspectives which would be helpful in adapting a moreefficient way of fostering the knowledge of the employees and organizations.

Pracovní motivace dentálních hygienistek / Work motivation of dental hygienistsDobrá, Eva January 2017 (has links)
This work is focused on the fluctuating motivation of dental hygienists. The goal of this work is to find the causes which lead to these dental hygienists to leave this career path, their motivation and demotivation inside their workplace. The theoretical part begins with defining the dental hygienist and describes her work routine and duties. Following part will be devoted to the fluctuation and turnover rate in the workforce, the causes and consequences related to it. The third section of the theoretical part will concentrate on motivation; motivation as a concept, personal fulfilment and financial compensation as a motivation. The empirical part analyzes the motivation of the participating sample group used for this study. Qualitative research methods were used; semi-structured interviews were conducted and then analyzed. The practical output is a description of the motivators and dissatisfactions of the selected test group of dental hygienists. With the help of the interviews, the conclusion to the motivations was reached and recommendations were assembled for dentists, managers and business owners of establishments which use the services of dental hygienists. Key words: dental hygienist, motivation, turnover, job satisfaction.

Stabilita proteinových komplexů cytoskeletu eukaryotického bičíku / Stability of protein complexes in the cytoskeleton of the eukaryotic flagellumPružincová, Martina January 2019 (has links)
The cilium/flagellum is a complex organelle protruding from the cell body and functioning in motility, sensing, and signalling. It is composed of hundreds of protein constituents, the majority of which comprise the flagellar cytoskeleton - the microtubule-based axoneme. Because the flagellum lacks ribosomes, its protein constituents have to be imported from the cell body and delivered to proper locations. Moreover, these proteins have to retain their function over a considerable length of time, despite the mechanical stress caused by flagellar beating and due to environmental exposure. This raises the question whether and where protein turnover occurs. Previously, it was established that Chlamydomonas reinhardtii flagella are dynamic structures (Marshall & Rosenbaum, 2001). In contrast, in the Trypanosoma brucei flagellum axonemal proteins are remarkably stable (Vincensini et al., 2018). However, the questions of axonemal assembly and stability were so far investigated only for a small number of proteins and during relatively short periods. Moreover, in these experiments expression of studied proteins was controlled by non-native regulatory elements. To elucidate the site of incorporation of proteins from all major axonemal complexes and to find out if and where the protein turnover occurs, T....

Wellness Paradigms in Predicting Stress and Burnout Among Beginning Expatriate TeachersProctor, Kimala 01 January 2019 (has links)
Research indicates that the current teacher shortage is in part due to stress and burnout. A topic that has not been examined is beginning expatriate English medium teachers (EMTs) with 5 years or less of teaching experience in the United Arab Emirates and the relationship between using individualized, self-initiated wellness paradigms and stress, job burnout, and intent to leave the teaching profession. The transactional model of stress and coping, Maslach's multidimensional theory of burnout, and the health promotion model were used to evaluate the moderating effects of the EMTs' burnout and stress levels on their wellness and intent to leave. In a quantitative, correlational design, multiple linear and moderated multiple regression were used to analyze data from a sample of 165 EMTs employed in schools in the United Arab Emirates. Results indicated that spiritual growth was a significant, negative predictor of intent to leave. EMTs' burnout and stress levels did not have a moderating effect on spiritual growth and intent to leave. There was a significant, positive relationship between emotional exhaustion, personal accomplishment, and intent to leave. These results can foster positive social change by bringing awareness to the stress and burnout that EMTs experience and by proposing that administrators, stakeholders, and school district personnel provide coping mechanisms for teachers to deal with stress, burnout, and intent to leave.

Sweden’s social services are today characterized by having high staff turnover which has resulted in various work-related problems, such as high workload, stress and insufficient resources. This study aims to investigate and quantify the work environment-related factors that, to the greatest extent, lead to the social secretaries staying at their workplaces within Stockholm's social services. The study's data collection method consisted of a survey that received a total of 35 respondents. The conclusions showed a certain hierarchy between the work environment-related factors, where the personal characteristics of the social secretaries turned out to be the strongest / most important factor in keeping them at their workplace. Support and supervision were the second strongest factor that had certain significance for the social secretaries in the field of child-welfare. Recovery and self-awareness were the third strongest factor. Stimulation and development was the fourth strongest factor that had certain significance for social secretaries that had longer periods of employment. The weakest factor for the social secretaries in this study was call and driving forces.

The Impact of ESG-Score on Turnover Growth : A Cross-Sectional Study of US IPOsSandberg, William, Johnson, Sebastian January 2020 (has links)
This thesis study is based on the research question ‘Does ESG-scores affect turnover growth in companies with recent IPOs in the US?’. With four multiple regression models, we tested our hypotheses. Additionally, we made a box-plot analysis to look for trends between groups of companies, where the groups were constructed based on ESG-scores. We believe that we came up with a, yet vague, answer to the question after analyzing the results of the research. For the companies in the sample, ESG-scores do affect Turnover Growth negatively, however we want to stress that we claim it with great caution, as it cannot be concluded with any statistical significance. This study also shed some light on whether or not a manager should spend time and resources, after initiating an IPO in the US, on implementing sustainability in their business model to achieve a high ESG-score to satisfy the demands of the higher number of stakeholders which comes with going public. Conclusively, and generally, we found that a manager should focus strictly on financial performance rather than both financial- and sustainability performance closely following the initiation of an IPO in the US.
