Komunikacijos sistema neįgaliesiems / Communication system for disabled

The developing stages of communication system for the physically disabled persons with speech and language impairments are presented in this master job. The system was developed in pursuance of international Eureka project E! 2707. The author tried to take notice of disables situation in society of 21’st century and tried to formulate the problems witch appearing then disables trying to use modern communication technologies (internet, e-mail, text typing). A review of compensation method for disables was done. Also the market of compensatory devices was reviewed. Only when analysis of users was done, compensatory methods for physically disabled person was review, and facilities was sum up, the model of communications system and the demo version of software for the physically disabled persons with speech and language impairments was created. The design software lets to type text, to use e-mail possibilities, to browse Internet. All these functions can be achieved using one or two ON-OFF buttons and virtual keyboard. The experiments shows that is possible to achieve text typing speed approximately 20 symbols per minute.

Climate model downscaling of Vancouver Island precipitation using a synoptic typing approach

A statistical downscaling technique is employed to link atmospheric circulation produced by climate models at the large-scale to precipitation recorded at individual weather stations on Vancouver Island. Relationships between the different spatial scales are established with synoptic typing, coupled with non-homogeneous Markov models to simulate precipitation intensity and occurrence in historical and future periods. Types are generated through a clustering algorithm which processes daily precipitation observations recorded by Environment Canada weather stations spanning 1971 to 2000. Large-scale atmospheric circulation data is taken from an ensemble of climate model projections made under the IPCC AR4 SRES A2 scenario through the end of the 21st century. Atmospheric predictors used to influence the Markov model are derived from two versions of the data: Averages of model grid cells selected by correlation maps of circulation and precipitation data; a new approach involving Common Empirical Orthogonal Functions (EOFs) calculated from model output over the Northeast Pacific Ocean. Circulation-based predictors capture the role of sea level pressure (SLP), and winds in influencing coastal precipitation over Vancouver Island. The magnitude and spatial distribution of the projected differences are dependent on the predictors used. Projections for 2081 to 2100 made using common EOFs result in most stations reporting no statistically significant change compared to the baseline period (1971 to 2000) in both seasons. Projections using averaged grid cells find winter season (Nov-Feb) precipitation anomalies produce values that are modestly positive, with typical gains of 6.5% in average precipitation, typical increases of 7.5% rising up to 15% in extreme precipitation, and little spatial dependence. In contrast, average and extreme summer precipitation intensity (Jun-Sep) declines negligibly at most island weather stations with the exception of those on the southern and western sections, which experience reductions of up to 20% relative to the latter thirty years of the twentieth century. Precipitation occurrence decreases slightly in both seasons at all stations with declines in the total days with measurable precipitation ranging from 2% to 8% with reductions also seen in the length of extended periods of precipitation in both seasons.

Anwendungsfälle erstrecken sich von der Stauraumoptimierung bei der Beladung von Lkws, Schiffen und Flugzeugen in der Logistik über die Packungsoptimierung bis zur Zuschnittoptimierung in den metall-, textil- und holzverarbeitenden Industrien. Die große Spanne an Szenarien und Randbedingungen erfordert jeweils angepasste Lösungsalgorithmen. Mit den neuen Herstellungstechnologien des Rapid Prototyping (zum Beispiel 3D-Druck oder Lasersintering), erlangt eine neue Ausprägung des Problemraums wirtschaftliche Bedeutung. Zur Lösung des Problems, soll untersucht werden, inwieweit sich etablierte Algorithmen der Stauraum- und Packungsoptimierung an die neuen Randbedingungen anpassen lassen und ob sich Algorithmen zur Zuschnittoptimierung in die dritte Dimension übertragen lassen.

Online enrichment activities and social opportunities are only successful if they are able to attract and sustain attention of the advanced interests of gifted children. The aim of the research is to design an online application that appeals to gifted children and recognises the identified intellectual and social needs within the New Zealand context. This was achieved through research through design by establishing a design strategy that uses the findings of investigations and applies them to a prototype application. Developers of online content for gifted children may benefit from this research. As an initial investigation a survey was conducted about how gifted New Zealand primary school children are using online applications. It was assumed following the literature review that online applications would appeal to gifted children if they teach a new skill, have multiplayer functionality and address higher order thinking skills. Basic design characteristics of the most popular gaming websites amongst gifted children (from the survey) were then used to inform the design strategy and to develop the prototype online application typozilla. Key findings were retrieved through observation of gifted children using typozilla. The majority of children observed were especially enthusiastic seeing other players’ avatars within multiplayer areas and competing against each other. They enjoyed learning a new skill (which was touch-typing) and engaging in creative tasks. In interviews all gifted children confirmed that they perceived the typozilla design as appealing.

The present study aims to detect and typify bovine Papillomavirus present in bovine tissue and blood samples with papillomatosis, to sequence the isolated viral types, to analyze the nucleotide sequences and the phylogeny of the detected viral types. As a result, amplification was obtained in five tissue samples (papilloma) from different bovines, not being successful in the amplification of blood samples. PCR reactions revealed the presence of BPV-1 in 60%, BPV-5 in 40%, BPV-9, BPV-10, BPV-13 and BPV-14 in 20% and BPV-12 in 40% of the analyzed samples. The presence of coinfection was verified in 60% of the lesions analyzed, with up to four viral types infecting the same sample. Alignments of viral type sequences 1, 5 and 14 were validated with identity ranging from 74% to 95%. The phylogenetic diagram showed a genetic approximation between viral types 1 and 14, both belonging to the genus Deltapapillomavirus, and distancing between nucleotide sequences of viral types 5, 9 and 14. Papillomaviruses of types 5 and 9 belong to different genera, Epsilonpapillomavirus and Xipapillomavirus, Respectively, the phylogenetic distance between these viral types, verified in the diagram, is justified. / Papilomavírus bovino é o agente etiológico da papilomatose bovina, doença que desencadeia verrugas por toda pele, úbere, tetos, genitália e em casos mais graves pode desenvolver papilomas extensivos, causar neoplasia no trato digestivo e bexiga, debilitar a saúde do animal e provocar perdas na produtividade e prejuízos para a pecuária. O presente estudo possui como objetivo detectar e tipificar Papilomavírus bovino presentes em amostras de tecido e sangue de bovinos com papilomatose, sequenciar os tipos virais isolados, analisar as sequências nucleotídicas e a filogenia dos tipos virais detectados. Como resultado, obteve-se amplificação em cinco amostras de tecido (papiloma) de diferentes bovinos, não obtendo sucesso na amplificação das amostras de sangue. As reações de PCR revelam a presença do BPV-1 em 60%, BPV-5 em 40%, BPV-9, BPV-10, BPV-13 e BPV-14 em 20% e BPV-12 em 40% das amostras analisadas. A presença de coinfecção foi verificada em 60% das lesões analisadas, com até quatro tipos virais infectando a mesma amostra. Os alinhamentos das sequencias do tipo viral 1, 5 e 14 foram validados com identidade variando de 74% a 95%. O diagrama filogenético demonstrou aproximação genética entre os tipos virais 1 e 14, ambos pertencentes ao gênero Deltapapillomavirus, e distanciamento entre as sequências nucleotídicas dos tipos virais 5, 9 e 14. Os papilomavírus dos tipos 5 e 9 pertencem a gêneros diferentes, Epsilonpapillomavirus e Xipapillomavirus, respectivamente, justifica-se dessa forma, a distância filogenética entre esses tipos virais, verificada no diagrama.
