A Study on A36 Steel Pipe On-Line Thickness Measurement Subjected to High-Temperature by Using PZTChen, Chih-chuan 16 July 2009 (has links)
The pipeline is playing an important role in industry nowadays. However, the inner wall of pipeline may suffer corrosion after a long service time. When excessive corrosion occurred, not only the transported material inside the pipe will let out but also serious accident may be induced. So, it¡¦s necessary to monitor pipeline thickness regularly. Conventionally, since most piping systems were subjected to high-temperature working environments, hence if an operator intend to examine the thickness of a pipeline, the whole piping system need to be shutdown and resulted in financial losses. Therefore, to develop on-line thickness measurement technique for pipelines subjected to high-temperature working environment is indispensable.
¡@¡@In this study, low-cost PZT sensors (Pb(ZrxTi1-x)O3), which can sustain high-temperature working environment, were used to execute the thickness measurements. A single PZT, which was bonded on the surface of a pipe as an actuator and a receiver simultaneously. Then, by utilizing the GUI(Graphic User Interface) system, which was designed in this study, the echo signal can be analyzed and the thickness of the pipe can be determined on-line and automatically. It is noted that the wave speed changed as environmental temperature increased. So, in this study, by using A36 steel plates and steel tubes as a specimens, a modified temperature versus wave velocity curve was proposed.. The experimental results showed that non-conservative thickness measurements will be obtained if modified wave speed was not adopted when working temperature increased.

As propriedades mecânicas e elétricas do músculo quadríceps em diferentes faixas etáriasBorges, Marcelo Kras January 2017 (has links)
Previous studies have reported a decrease in force production ability with age. Structural and functional changes on the skeletal muscles such as sarcopenia (loss of muscle mass), decreased ability of motor unit firing, increased co-activation of antagonist muscle, decreased muscle fiber tension and tendon’s rigidity are taken into account for the reduced motor functionality in elderly individuals. This study aimed to investigate age-related changes of maximum voluntary isometric and isokinetic torque production (MVT), as well as electromyography (EMG) responses. We hypothesized that as consequence of aging: a) a reduced ability of MVT production; b) a torque/angle curve displacement (left side) towards the lowers muscle lengths; c) a torque/velocity curve displacement (left side) towards smaller velocities; d) and decreased muscle activation will be observed. Forty healthy male individuals, evenly and randomly divided in four age groups (15–30; 31– 35; 45– 60; 60–75 years old), participated in this study as subjects. The subjects were asked to produce maximum knee extension torques on the isokinetic dynamometer (Cybex ®) in different angles (15º; 30º; 45º; 60º; 75º; 90º and 105º) and velocities (60º/s; 120º/s; 180º/s; 240º/s; 300º/s and 360º/s) EMG signals from the upper leg muscles such as, vatsus lateralis, rectus femoris, vastus medialis, were simultaneously recorded. The level of physical activity was evaluated by the QIAF–short form (International questionnaire of physical activity). MVT values, RMS values from EMG signals and level of physical activity were used as dependent measures. The results showed a decrease in MVT with age. Particularly, lower values of MVT were found during higher velocities under isokinetic condition. No changes were observed for torque/angle and torque/velocity curves and no age-related changes were found on the EMG responses. We conclude that aging affects MVT production, particularly during high velocities. In addition, the results allowed us to point out that higher levels of physical activity and functional demand, showed by the older groups, could explain the similarities found on EMG responses among the different age groups.

desempenho do jovem atleta nesta prova.
caracterizar as principais variáveis influentes no desempenho desta corrida, e comparar
antropometria (massa corporal, estatura, altura sentada, envergadura e dobras cutâneas)
A força é
It is valuable for coaches to know the phases of the 75m dash race. This knowledge
allows them to develop specific training protocols for young athlete's performance for
this test. It is known that the age levels from 10 to 15 years old is considered a sensitive
stage in the development of physical qualities, that is when they start to show faster
improvements mainly due to maturational factors. Thus, this study aims to investigate
the behaviour of the velocity curve in the athletes from 13 to 15 years realizing the test
of 75 meter dash. It also aims to characterize the main influential variables in the
performance of this race, and compare the fastest to the slower athletes. We evaluated
79 athletes from track and field, 34 boys and 45 girls, 10 teams in the Under-16 age
levels. The protocol was developed on two consecutive days. On the first day, the
clinical historic data was collected, including anthropometry data (weight, height, sitting
height, wingspan and skin folds) and the movement velocity test and vertical jump. On
the second day, athletes ran the 75m race. The main results were: acceleration phase
goes from 0 to 30m for boys and girls, maintenance phase goes from 30 to 67.5m for
boys and from 30 to 45 m for girls and decelerating ranges from 67.5 to 75 m for boys,
and from 45 to 75m for girls. The boys' stride length is more decisive than their stride
frequency. For girls, both variables had the same importance. The vertical jump is a
good predictor of performance in the race of 75 m. Faster boys have better
anthropometric and performance in relation to slower participants. Faster and slower
boys accelerate to 30 m, though the slowest holds from 30 to 60 and decelerate from 60
to 75, while in contrast the fastest keep the speed of 30 m until the end of the race and
do not slow down. Faster girls compared to slower pairs do not differ in anthropometric
values, differentiating the sum of skinfolds and the performance variables such as
strength. The duration of the phases of faster and slower girls are alike. The only
difference is the best values of speed of the fastest participants. It can be concluded that
young athletes of the U-16 levels have the same duration of acceleration phase
regardless of sex or performance level. What differs is the speed during the maintenance
phases and deceleration. The force is a prominent variable to predict the speed
performance in this category.

The determinants of running performance in middle distance female athletesMpholwane, Matome Lieghtone 19 August 2008 (has links)
ABSTRACT
Male subjects are invariably used to study the physiological determinants of middle
distance running performance. Studies that do include females have examined only the
aerobic contribution to middle distance running performance. The aim of the present
study was to investigate aerobic, anaerobic and muscle function factors that could be used
to predict middle distance running performance in female runners. This study was
performed at an altitude of 1800m.
Eleven middle distance female runners aged 18-20 were selected for the study.
Aerobic capacity was assessed by measuring the maximal oxygen consumption
(VO2max), running velocity at maximal oxygen consumption (vVO2max), running
economy (RE) and onset of blood lactate accumulation (OBLA).
The blood lactate curve of each subject was constructed by relating the oxygen
consumption, to the plasma lactate concentrations.
Anaerobic capacity was determined by measuring the maximum accumulated oxygen
deficit (MAOD) on a treadmill. Muscle function was assessed by having the subjects
cycle as fast as possible against changing brake weights ranging from heavy to light using
a Monark cycle ergometer. The brake force (kg) was related to velocity (rpm).
