Automated system to create unique vignettes / Automatiserat system för att skapa unika vinjetter

Kjäll, Åsa January 2013 (has links)
This document describes the work for a master’s thesis in Media Technology and Engineering at Link ̈oping University. The work consisted of building a system for defining and creating vignettes for horse racing shows. The vignettes are built up by a montage of video clips which are changed with the seasons, time of day and betting product. The system randomizes the video files and the audio files depending on the season, time of day and current betting product when creating the vignettes. Each vignette will therefore be unique. The work also consisted of implementing the vignette graphics in the software Ventuz.

BULLYING VICTIMIZATION: THE PERCEIVED EMOTIONAL RISK FACTORS AND CONSEQUENCES FOR VICTIMIZED STUDENTS

VanderWoude, Chelsea 01 August 2019 (has links)
Bullying victimization is a common experience for many students (Hoover, Oliver, & Hazler, 1992; Lund & Ross, 2017; Modecki, Minchin, Harbaugh, Guerra, & Runions, 2014). The vast majority of studies on the subject have focused on children and adolescents, but research shows that bullying victimization may continue into adulthood for some (Chapell, Casey, & De la Cruz, 2004; Finn, 2004). This suggests that certain students are at risk throughout their lifetime likely due to stable or innate risk factors. Researchers have proposed that personality traits, specifically neuroticism, and emotion regulation deficits are risk factors for bullying victimization (Hemphill, Tollit, Kotevski, & Heerde, 2015; Mynard & Joseph, 1997; Nielsen & Knardahl, 2014). The current study assessed bullying victimization for students attending a public Midwestern university. The rates for college students, influence of prior bullying victimization, and common associated difficulties were assessed. In addition, the current study measured difficulties in emotion regulation and changes in affect in response to bullying victimization vignettes. The results from the current study indicated that bullying continues into college for some students and is best predicted by bullying victimization in primary and secondary school. Results from this study supported the use of a vignette as a mood induction procedure for both victimized and non-victimized students. When taken together, these findings have implications for future research and intervention efforts, which are discussed.

Faktoriální vinětový design / Factorial Vignette Survey Design: Formulation of Vignettes and its ifluence

Plecháčková, Debora January 2017 (has links)
The thesis focuses on quasi-experimental research design using descriptions of hypothetical situations (vignettes) with varying dimensions and their levels. The thesis is divided into three parts. First one is devoted to the presentation of the FSA. Second (methodologic) part describes the circumstances of the research conducted within the thesis. It is focused on comparison of FSA and traditional polling method, represented by itemized battery. Topic, through which the comparison is made, is crime, respectively punitiveness. The research also focuses on the comparison of classical and projective methods of questioning. The questionnaire survey method CAWI used split- ballot experiment - a sample of 505 respondents was divided into two parts. One half was interviewed with the vignette and subsequent itemized battery focused on mitigating / aggravating circumstances in the ordinary form (first person) of polling, the second part received a projective form (third person) of the questionnaire. The conclusions of the research are focused both on identifying the mitigating and aggravating circumstances using different methods of inquiry and their comparison, and on a combination of FSA and itemized battery in analysis and detection of inconsistent (and potentially socially desirable) topics.

Guirguis, Haidi 08 1900 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the presentation of the machine by Robida. The major part of our research aims to reveal its meanings and examines its literary and visual settlement in each novel in the most popular trilogy of scientific anticipation made by the author. The search has the aspect of a continuous travel between what is read and what is seen, the said and the unsaid, the literary description and the imagination, the reality and the fiction. We will be mainly interested by the evolution of Albert Robida’s vision: in Le Vingtième siècle, the image of a beneficial machine, simplifying every day’s life, saving time and money and largely contributing to the happiness and the entertainment of every man’s kind, except some occasional accidents, is reflected by a close and helpful connection between the text, the vignette and the inserts. This image is modified, in La Guerre au vingtième siècle, into an anxiety felt towards the use of the machine as a war weapon, and expressed in the transfer of the narration to the illustration in-texte, aiming to touch the reader and make him aware of the violent and brutal aspect of the machines that are only named. This image causes, in La Vie électrique, a serious pessimistic vision of the use of the machine in the society and the power of the scientific knowledge in the future which is displayed in dark and gloomy hors-texte. In this context, the illustrated machine requires a double reading, details oriented and interested in the presence and the absence of elements, in the transfer between the text and the illustration, in the anticipated or the belated picture, in the relationship between the text, the image and the caption, in the words that have been transferred to the image and mostly the rest of the incomplete picture. In Robida’s work, the praises that become a criticism and the satire being cynicism, are very representatives of the hopes and the fears created by the discovery and the application of the electricity, by its virtues, but also its uncontrollable aspect.

The influence of risk stakeholder personality on risk framing: an exploratory study

Grobbelaar, Jan January 2016 (has links)
Corporate governance models segregate the role of risk manager and risk taker to allow for independent challenge of risk-related decisions. Numerous studies have demonstrated that broad personality traits predict risk-related behaviour. While prospect theory revealed a natural preference towards risk-taking in a negative risk frame, studies have also shown the influence of personality traits on risk preference. We investigated the less reported subject of the potential influence of risk stakeholder personality on risk decision making in the corporate environment. We expected to observe that the personality traits of risk takers and risk managers will differ as a consequence of occupational self-selection. Further, we expected that such personality differences will produce disparate risk preferences between risk takers and risk managers, supporting the governance expectation of independent challenge of risk-related decisions. A sample of investment banking risk stakeholders (n = 100) completed the HEXACO–PI–R as well as a vignette-based risky choice questionnaire involving positively and negatively framed financial risk scenarios. We found homogeneity in personality traits between risk takers and risk managers but observed a noticeable bias toward risk-taking in the negative frame by risk managers. High Honesty–Humility and Conscientiousness scores in both groups may negate the risk of irresponsible risk-taking or undesirable risk behaviour. The results of this study confirm the importance of personality screening for job applicants and should also alert risk practitioners to potential weaknesses in the independent challenge of risk-related decisions as a result of personality homogeneity among risk stakeholders.

Dubé, Gabrielle-Charlotte January 2014 (has links)

Postpartum Depression: The Effects of a Video Intervention on Knowledge and Stigma

Dwanyen, Lekie 01 January 2016 (has links)
Postpartum Depression (PPD) has gained well-deserved traction in healthcare policy discourse as a public health concern. Although one in seven American women are believed to experience PPD, mental illness stigma induces feelings of shame and guilt, reduces treatment-seeking behaviors, and ultimately contributes to a low PPD diagnosis rate. Risk of experiencing PPD is associated with various contextual factors, yet little is known about the association between stigma and PPD risk factors. A multiple-segment factorial vignette was used with 1,871 respondents to examine the impact of maternal age, depression history, infant temperament, and diagnosis on attitudes toward PPD. In addition, the impact of an educational video on PPD symptom recognition and stigmatizing attitudes was examined with a subsample of 1,178 respondents. Results demonstrated that a mother’s age, history of depression, and her infant’s temperament impacted respondents’ attribution of her symptoms to baby blues or PPD, and also influenced stigmatizing attitudes toward her PPD experience. Results also revealed that the educational video had a positive effect on symptom recognition and reduced stigmatizing views. Implications of these findings are discussed.

Ungdomsbrottslighet - en bedömning utifrån könstillhörighet? / Juvenile delinquency - an assessment based on gender?

Hjort af Ornäs, Anna, Lithman, Charlotta January 2016 (has links)
Syfte. / Aim. This study examines differences in social workers’ assessments of youths in relation to gender and whether they have the need for continued contact with the social services after the sentence is completed. The theoretical framework of this study is based on social constructionism and gender theory.   Method. This study was carried out using a quantitative method. Two surveys consisting of two vignettes each was constructed and sent by email to social workers in central Sweden. The surveys differed in only one aspect - half of the respondents received a survey consisting two vignettes in which the youths had girl names, and the other half received a survey consisting vignettes with boy names. Hence, the surveys were constructed to be differentiated by gender.   Results. The analysis of the responses generated revealed no significant differences regarding social workers’ assessments in relation to gender - not for concern, intervention or protective- and risk factors.   Conclusion. The study’s result has not detected any differences between the two genders included in the survey. However, it is not tenable to exclude gender differences in social work with youth as the results of this study are not fully generalizable, due to the choice of method. The answers might have differed if it was real cases.
