Jonsson, Ulrika, Pettersson, Gunilla January 2015 (has links)
Voluntary work - why? There are many people who work as volunteers within different organizations and we have chosen to study an organization that aims to help women and girls around the world. The members give their time and dedication in order to give other people a better life. The purpose of the study is to examine the factors that motivate people to join the organization. When we heard about the organization the first time we wondered if the volunteers were there to help others, or to have something to do for themselves. We chose to conduct a survey of the selected organization and have grouped the results according to different factors. One grouping is how long they have been members. Another is if there is a difference between two groups, where one is more comitted to voluntary work in their own neighborhood compared to those who are not. We have used altrusim, egoism and motivation as key concepts för understanding and analyzing our results. We have come to the conclusion that there are differences between different groups of why they are in this organization. One of the main reasons for all groups is that they truly want to help women and girls around the world. The social aspects of being in a group, to be on activities was not as high on the list as we first anticipated.

Fri vilja eller tradition? : Prästrespektive i den prästerliga kulturen

Sivhed, Elna January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of the study was to investigate, using data from the sacerdotal culture, t h espouses of five priests. The main questions were: How does the priestly calling affect thespouse? Do the spouses involve themselves with voluntary work? Do the spouses feel thecongregation have expectations? Do the female and male answers differ? The sacerdotal culture has consisted of several elements. The main element is the priest’scalling for his work. As far as the spouse is concerned within the congregation, the spouseshave been seen as necessary for voluntary work. The congregation has also expected thespouse to act in a certain way and to undertake certain tasks. How the five informants feel about and react to the sacerdotal culture is focus for this study. The study shows that the sacerdotal culture is still strong today and it is something that thespouses take into account. They can choose not to participate but that might involve, forinstance, having to live somewhere else. The study found that the calling affects the femaleinformants, but not so much the males. The amount of participation varies from spouse tospouse and is a matter of their own choice. Expectations can also vary and participation inthe congregation can create higher expectations.

Alhällen, Olivia, Klingberg, Daniela January 2018 (has links)
Hochschild's study of emotional labour, how emotions are handled in wage work involving interaction with others, was the starting point for emotional labour studies. However, previous research on emotional labour in the non-profit sector is rather limited. Therefore, this study aims to inquire how emotion labour is expressed in a voluntary work carried out exclusively by women. Furthermore, the study intends to determine whether the boundary between acting professionally  and  acting  personally  tends  to  become  more  diffuse  in  voluntary  work.  The study  is  based  on  interviews  with  six  volunteers  currently  working  at  Kvinnohuset  and  the ambition  has  been  to  successfully  capture  their  experiences  about  how  emotional  labour  is managed  by  them  during  their  voluntary  work.  The  study  shows  that  the  volunteers  at Kvinnohuset work with emotional labour in a transboundary manner, which means that they commute between acting professionally and personally in order to maintain the purpose and culture   of   the   Kvinnohuset,   which   is   important   for   the   organization   to   progress   and relationships  to  flourish.  In  addition  to  this,  the  study  shows  that  the  existing  definition  of emotional   labour   does   not   correspond   to   the   emotional   labour   that   can   be   found   at Kvinnohuset.  Through  an  elaborated  model  of  similarities  and  differences  between  how emotional labour is handled in wage work and in the non-profit sector, we have proposed a more  precise  definition  of  emotional  labour  in  the  non-profit  sector,  which  is  emotional procreation.

Mavi, Dilan, Pettersson, Sofia January 2022 (has links)

"Det ger någon slags mening i vardagen" : En kulturanalytisk studie om volontärers upplevelser av att arbeta med flyktingar / A Meaningful Work : A cultural analysis of Swedish voluntary workers' experiences of their engagement with refugees

Liliequist, Christian January 2016 (has links)
Abstract of “A meaningful work” The aim of this paper is to make a cultural analysis of Swedish voluntary workers’ experiences of their engagement with refugees during the fall and winter of 2015/2016. I have interviewed eight people between the age of 19 and 61 with experiences from working as volunteers with refugees. In addition to the interviews, I have conducted a participant observation on a refugee accommodation.      I have highlighted interesting themes brought up by the informants during the interviews.  These themes have been further analyzed from the theoretical concepts of self-identity, class and gender.       As the results show, my informants have had different motives and driving forces for engaging as volunteers, depending on their habitus and self-identities. For many the volunteer work fulfilled an important social aspect in their life. As volunteers they also got first hand information about the refugee situation, which they could pass on to their environment.       One of my informants had more negative experiences than the others. She experienced a lot of critique for her engagement, which partly was because of her norm-breaking leader position as a black, young woman.       Through my participant observation I got to experience the gloomy facilities of a refugee accommodation located in a distant, secluded environment. But I also experienced the informants’ joy when playing with the kids, and how their engagement created a more cheerful atmosphere.

Is based on Marxist tradition of Social Work in Brazil with regards to the development of the Political- Ethical Professional Project. Presents the connections between the profession s theoretical scope and the contemporary volunteering socio-historical assumptions, trying to rationalize the controversial aspects resulting in the reality revelation. Offers support for a secular debate about the charity s moral values in the situations that involves volunteer social work, as well as indicates for further studies on ethical grounds in face of the work category in contemporary capitalism. It presents qualitative research matured as result of previous studies about the relationship between the profession and the religious institutions, and the Social Work learner s profile that involves the professional training and religiosity. This research analyses, lastly, the delineate tints of the profession practiced without payment, addressing its interfaces with the work s precariousness, with the social problems depoliticization in capitalist society and the ethical and political praxis of social worker s complexities / A presente dissertação de mestrado trata de aspectos da ética relacionados à reprodução de valores de cunho e origem religiosos na atuação voluntária do assistente social.

Volunteer that makes a difference or difference that makes a volunteer? : A study on the apprehension of roles and functions of European volunteers in Ghana

Söderberg, Frida January 2010 (has links)
Westerners have for centuries been present in Africa with different motives. The most recent phenomenon is young volunteers that, instead of being tourists in a normal sense, go to the continent to work within organizations as for example teachers. This study, where the empirical material is based on qualitative interviews done with twelve European volunteers during a minor field study in Ghana, aims to examine what apprehension the volunteers have of their role and function. To create an understanding for the purpose, questions on the meaning of the concept of volunteering, motives and outcomes of the volunteering experience as well as the view of westerners and Ghanaians have been asked. In the light of postcolonialism and volunteer tourism, the study shows a number of factors that explains motives and the understanding of the concept, with a focus on the learning and growth of the volunteer. The outcome circles around knowledge on development issues and aid work as well as being able to have an impact on Ghanaians and development in Ghana. The volunteers also show revulsion from other westerners (that want to “help” and have a “colonial” behavior) and Ghanaians, but at the same time they prefer to spend time with westerners. The volunteers’ apprehension of their role and function is found to be bipartite; expressed is that they are in Ghana to experience and to learn, but understood is also that they see it as their task to spread their view of life, help the locals and contribute to development. A possible explanation to this contradiction might be that the volunteers, grown up in a time where they have been taught “how they should think” about “Us” and “Them”, distance themselves from everything that disaffirm their belief. However, at the same time they are deeply influenced by the western society’s way of focusing on differences between people, differences with signatures such as “developed” and “underdeveloped”. It creates a complexity of knowing something but not being able to live by it.
