The Anuvrat Movement: Theory and Practice

Bothra, Shivani 28 March 2013 (has links)
The slogan: “Self-restraint is life,” forms the philosophical ideal behind the Anuvrat Movement. The purpose of my thesis is to evaluate the Anuvrat Movement introduced by Acharya Tulsi as a non-sectarian, ethical-spiritual movement. The study considered in some detail the historical context within which the movement emerged. The thesis provides a much-needed analysis of the 11 vows formulated by Tulsi in the model of the traditional vows in Jainism. It explored the question whether these vows are relevant and effective in the contemporary Indian society, and whether Tulsi’s movement can cross the geographical boundaries of the Indian sub-continent to be a part of larger global initiatives. The study explored the social significance of the concepts of nonviolence, social justice and sustainability in the wider global community. The study suggests a positive association between the exemplary charismatic role of a leader and the popularity and longevity of social movements in India.

EX-VOTOS DE TRINDADE PERFIS DE UM IMAGINÁRIO RELIGIOSO.

Abreu, Rafaelle Setúbal Gomes de 08 August 2012 (has links)

The belief, their manifestations, the devotion expressed in the payoffs to Divino Pai Eterno happen in several ways: strands of hair, photographs, pieces of clothing ... So the way to cultural historian is to rescue these events and devotions and extend the areas of historical research in order to allow the objects produced by man - woman (his life material) were investigated and studied. The ex-vows a source, allow a contact with some aspects of popular religiosity, and also important to the development of cultural studies. At the core of this dissertation, we reveal the mixture of belief, mystery and mystique of the expression of ex votes in the health context for the search of prosperity, the disease, the search for a shelter, in a society where large proportion is devoid of any kind of support to provide the health, safety, prosperity, and on the other hand, a constant charge of all this, being a society extremely competitive and challenging and advocated a social and emotional distress. The devotee thus finds in the saints of devotion or in other forms of devotion to the possibility of withdrawing from their shoulders the burden of driving to the helplessness of a life time.

Karla Boromejského na pozadí událostí 19., 20. a 21. století Congregation of Sisters of Mercy of St. Boromeo and the Situation in 19th, 20 th and 21th Century Marcela Batrošová - Bártová This introductory chapter is expected to depict the basic information on which this thesis has been written and its main objective. The impetus of this work has been two reasons. Partly, I had done a similar topic during my bachelor's level where I had addressed the inception and development of the congregation of sisters of mercy of the St. Charles of Baromeo in Bohemia. It was from this work, that I got the motivation to extend the study by trying to further explore on the biographical background of four main leaders of this congregation. I look at their activities from different historical phases in Bohemia. This method of literature review from the archive of the congregation I considered as "untouched field". It was a great challenge that I wouldn't let go. This work in its context could not however, capture the whole scene in detail. Therefore the historical episodes to relevant leaders of this congregation are only a summarized view of important events of the period experienced by the relevant personality. The whole work is divided into four chapters. The first chapter looks into...

La vie consacrée en droit canonique et en droit public français : critères de reconnaissance dans les associations de fidèles / Consecrated life in Canon law and French law : recognition criteria in associations of the faithful

Burgun, Cédric 24 June 2015 (has links)
Today in the Roman Catholic Church new forms of “associative” communities are emerging and posing a certain number of questions in regard to Canon Law. One of the questions concerns those who choose to live a celibate state of "consecrated life" in these new forms of community life within the Church. Beyond the structures and organic criteria of consecrated life, which sometimes in itself can frustrate any serious reflection, what are the criteria in utroque iure, that would allow for the recognition of such a state of life in Canon law? New forms of consecrated life in the Catholic Church can also question French law. Some of these new forms acquire the status of an international public association in Canon law, and ask, for example, for legal recognition as a “religious congregation", in French law. Questions than arise on matters such as social security, labor law, and other issues within this legal congregational status. These are the essential canonical and French legal criteria for these movements that our study is to clarify. How can the profession of the evangelical counsels, the sacred bonds, stability, fraternal life, and submission to an approved rule of life, all canonical requirements be fulfilled, while also satisfying French legal requirements, such as social security, pension schemes and litigation activity, in the new forms of “associative communities?”

No. of bitstreams: 1 Regina Soares Jurkewicz.pdf: 1451661 bytes, checksum: b0977702e320b25a948c3cfa83d86c49 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2006-11-09 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This thesis examines sexual abuse and violence against women by priests. Using public complaints made in Brazil between 1994 and 2000 as an empirical base, it details 203 articles related to 21 cases of sexual misconduct by clergymen, including sexual abuse, rape, and the violation of vows of celibacy. These articles were grouped to create a dossier on each of the cases and numbered sequentially. Brazil´s most important media sources were consulted, including online news sites and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) across the country. Two representative cases were chosen and studied in depth. Interviews were conducted with plaintiffs, witnesses, members of the Church hierarchy, and attorneys involved in the cases, preserving the anonymity of all interviewees. Utilizing a sociological perspective, the analysis explores the mechanisms by which the Catholic Church attempts to cover up such cases. Showing the specificities of the violence perpetrated against women by priests, the study points toward the existence of structural causes of this violence and their different manifestations, examining them through the lens of feminist theory. The study suggests that a specific analytic category should be developed in order to better comprehend this particular type of violence against women. The term clerical violence is proposed for describing this type of violence, whose structural aspects include gender asymmetries, the separation between clergy and lay members, patriarchal discourse, the sexualization of ministerial relations and the force of symbolic violence. The work of Pierre Bourdieu is useful in understanding religion as a symbolic system that endows the priest with sacred power. Given that the causes of clerical violence are mainly structural, likewise, structural solutions are needed in addressing the issue / Esta tese tem por objeto, relações de abuso e violência sexual de padres contra mulheres.

Riebesehl, Klaus 01 1900 (has links)
The goal of this study is to evaluate, in which manner the Non-Israelites turn to Yahweh. It works with a combination of narrative analysis and intertextuality. The book of Jonah contains two symmetrical parts (1-2 and 3-4), each part containing three scenes, each scene relating to a scene in the other part: 1.1-3 // 3.1-3a; 1.4-16 // 3.3b-10; 2.1-11 // 4.1-11. The structure of 1.4-16, including the inner development of the mariners, shows that a conversion of the Seamen to Yahweh is intended. In the same manner the structure of 3.3b-10 and the positive characterization of the Ninevites show that a conversion to the one true God is intended. These results are each confirmed by an intertextual analysis of 1.14 and 16 and of the faith, the repentance and the God who relents. Result: The book of Jonah teaches that Non-Israelites can have a relationship with Yahweh. This is possible through an Israelite, becoming reality by conversion of the Heathen. / Old Testament & Ancient Near Eastern Studies / M. Th. (Old Testament)
