Comparative analysis of automated scanning and manual penetration testing for enhanced cybersecurityRane, Nikhil, Qureshi, Amna 16 August 2024 (has links)
Yes / Web platform security has become a significant concern in the current cyber world. Adversaries constantly advance their skills and technologies to bypass modern cyber defence techniques to lure website vulnerabilities. In the cyber world, finding and mitigating vulnerabilities on the website is essential to avoid any damage to the organization. Two key techniques - vulnerability assessment and penetration testing - play a crucial role in identifying and mitigating these weaknesses. While vulnerability assessment scans the platform, revealing potential flaws, penetration testing goes a step further, simulating real-world attack scenarios to assess their true exploitability and possible damage. This paper compares automated scanning and manual penetration testing to evaluate the effectiveness of these techniques in uncovering vulnerabilities. The experimental results confirm that manual penetration testing is more effective than automated testing in terms of accuracy. Additionally, practical studies highlight the importance of a penetration tester's skills and experience in identifying and exploiting security weaknesses. Automated tools may also generate false positive results.

Assessing Nonprofit Websites: Developing an Evaluation ModelKirk, Kristin Cherish 23 April 2018 (has links)
Nonprofit organizations are pivotal actors in society, and their websites can play important roles in aiding organizations in their socially-beneficial missions by serving as a platform to present information, to interact with stakeholders and to perform online transactions. This dissertation analyzed nonprofit websites in the United States (U.S.) and in Thailand in a series of three articles. The first developed a website evaluative instrument, based on an e-commerce model, and applied it to nonprofit websites through a manual decoding process. That article's findings suggested that Thai websites are not considerably different than U.S. nonprofit websites, except more American websites offer online transactions. The second article analyzed two different types of nonprofits in Thailand using the same model to assess website development in an emerging market. That analysis suggested local Thai nonprofits' websites lagged significantly behind those of internationally connected nonprofit organizations in the country in the features they offered. The third article compared the adapted model employed in the second analysis, which used manual decoding for website examination, to a commercially available, automated evaluation service. That analysis highlighted the differences between the two assessment tools and found them to be complementary, but independently insufficient to ensure robust nonprofit website evaluation. / Ph. D. / Nonprofit organizations, such as public charities, are integral in our society. With increased Internet access, members of the general public often visit nonprofit websites to learn about such institutions. Nonprofits, however, lack a systematic tool to analyze how well their websites are developing and whether they are successful in securing their aims. This dissertation developed and applied an evaluative model to examine nonprofit entity website features and efficacy in the United States and in Thailand. The analysis found U.S. and international nonprofits websites were better developed than local Thai organizations, but still evidenced significant design challenges. Comparing the results of the developed evaluation model to those produced by a commercial automated assessment tool, the author found neither to be sufficient alone for measuring the quality of nonprofit websites.

Strategic management and development of UK university library websitesManuel, Sue January 2012 (has links)
This research assessed website management and development practices across the United Kingdom university library sector. As a starting point, the design and features of this group of websites was recorded against criteria drawn from the extant literature. This activity established core content and features of UK library websites as: a search box or link for searching the library catalogue, electronic resources or website; a navigation column on the left and breadcrumb trail to aid information location and website orientation; homepage design was repeated on library website sub-pages; university brand elements appeared in the banner; and a contact us link was provided for communication with library personnel. Library websites conformed to 14 of the 20 homepage usability guidelines examined indicating that web managers were taking steps to ensure that users were well served by their websites. Areas for improvement included better navigation support (sitemap/index), greater adoption of new technologies and more interactive features. Website management and development practices were established through national survey and in-depth case studies. These illustrated the adoption of a team approach to website management and development; formal website policy and strategy were not routinely created; library web personnel and their ability to build effective links with colleagues at the institution made a valuable contribution to the success of a library website; corporate services and institutional practices played an important part in library website development; library staff were actively engaged in consultations with their website audience; and a user focused approach to website development prevailed. User studies and metric data were considered in the website evaluation and development process. However, there were some issues with both data streams and interpreting metric data to inform website development. Evaluation and development activities were not always possible due to staff/time shortages, technical constraints, corporate website templates, and, to a lesser extent, lack of finance.

Tinklalapio efektyvumo vertinimo modelis / Website effectiveness evaluation modelPipilevič, Zigmund 06 February 2009 (has links)
tinklalapio efektyvumo vertinimo modelius. Dažniausiai yra apsiribojama išvadomis, todėl pastebimas
fragmentiškumas, trūksta rezultatų sujungimo į vieną sistemą. Tai leidžia tvirtinti, kad teorija ir
empiriniu tyrimu pagrįstos tinklalapio efektyvumo vertinimo modelio studijos yra aktualios bei
savalaikės. Darbo pabaigoje, remiantis teorinėmis studijomis bei empiriniu tyrimu bus sukurtas
tinklalapio efektyvumo vertinimo modelis, kuris padės svetainės projektuotojams lengviau suprasti
svarbiausius tinklalapio elementus.
Tyrimo
tikslas yra atlikus svetainių efektyvumo vertinimo... [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Website has a significant impact on the company's commercial image. It is expected that the
design of a website will improve the company’s and customer’s mutual understanding. Master's final
paper topic is very relevant, because the Internet is one of the most popular and fastest growing areas
of the practical use of computers, which opens unlimited information search engines, self-education,
communication and new activities search options. Such services for the majority of Internet users are
no longer adequate today. It is desired not only to use the Internet data, but also to provide its
information with the site assistance. However, in order to provide the information in the network, the
different levels and aspects of the site's performance analysed.
The problem of the research is that only the very little research and materials on site the
effectiveness of the models can be found. It is usually confined to the findings, therefore the
fragmentation and lack of results placed together in one system is observed. This suggests that the
theory and the model studies based on the site the effectiveness empirical researches are relevant and
timely. At the end of the paper on the basis of theoretical studies and empirical research the site the
effectiveness of the model will be created, which will help for the web site designers to understand the
key elements of the site easier.
The paper subject is the internet sites and evaluation of their effectiveness models. The
purpose of... [to full text]

Previous issue date: 2011-08-19 / Coordena??o de Aperfei?oamento de Pessoal de N?vel Superior / This study aims to analyze tourist information provided by the official websites of the 2014
FIFA World Cup host cities. The framework developed by D?az (2005) was applied to
analyze different aspects, such as: local tourist information, tourist services distribution,
communication and interaction between website and users, and website foreign language
versions. This dissertation describes how society and tourism are related by analyzing the
consequences of technological evolution in the travel and tourism sector, showing the
importance of the use of information and communication technology to provide accurate, upto-
date and low-cost information to tourist destinations. Because of the nature of the study,
the research subjects are the 12 Brazilian host cities represented by their respective official
webpages (cities, states and convention bureaus), and also Brazil s official website, totalizing
36 elements to be analyzed. The methodology has been characterized as descriptive and
exploratory with quantitative analysis, and also using desk research and survey literature
review. In order to analyze the data collected, parametric and nonparametric statistics tests
were used, such as: variance analysis (ANOVA and KRUSKAL-WALLIS) to measure means
variance between groups combined with multiple comparison tests (Tukey and Games
Howell); nonparametric correlations tests (Kendall s Tau b); and cluster analyses. Finally,
Microsoft Excel was used to collect data and SPSS for managing data through quantitative
analyses tests. Overall, the websites of the south region showed better results than the other
Brazilian regions. Despite this result, the data analysis demonstrated that the available tourist
information are incomplete as it was verified that tourist host cities websites are unable to
provide all the information needed for the web visitors to organize and plan their journey.
This means that visitors have to look for more information in other sources / Trata da avalia??o das informa??es disponibilizadas em websites tur?sticos oficiais dos
Descreve a
websites tur?sticos; capacidade de comercializa??o e distribui??o dos servi?os tur?sticos;
A metodologia
