Understanding roles of experiential value and perceived switching drivers on travelers’ loyalty: an empirical study of third-party travel websitesChoi, Sooyoung January 1900 (has links)
Doctor of Philosophy / Hospitality Management and Dietetics / Rebecca A. Gould / Chihyung Ok / The Internet has been one of the primary channels for acquiring information during pre-purchase and actual purchase stages characterized by easy entry and low supplier power. Internet travel businesses find it harder to retain customers, and customer defection to better alternatives is inevitable. Travel website developers and/or managers face problems that make it necessary to understand and identify what makes their customers continue to use websites without switching. To date, much attention has gone to identifying what affects website users’ behavioral intentions. Limited research, however, has been published on the experiential value of using travel websites and what influences travelers to switch to other travel websites, a context that requires more information.
The purpose of this study was to explore and test travelers’ loyalty empirically, along with determinants like the value of travel websites and website switching drivers. In particular, Study 1 proposed a theoretical model identifying the effects of a website’s experiential value on satisfaction, and, in turn, attitudinal loyalty and behavioral loyalty. Study 2 aimed to examine website switching factors (i.e., switching costs, attractiveness of alternatives, and perceived network externality) on the relationship between satisfaction and loyalty. Along with the purpose and objectives of the study, 14 hypotheses were proposed based on the literature review.
Data were collected from 384 travel website users in the United States who are 18 years or older and have used travel websites within the last three months. The proposed relationships were examined using structural equation modeling and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. Results showed that customer return on investment, service excellence, and aesthetics were directly associated with satisfaction; satisfaction was directly related to attitudinal loyalty and behavioral loyalty; attitudinal loyalty showed a positive influence on behavioral loyalty; and attitudinal loyalty partially mediated the relationship of satisfaction with behavioral loyalty. Further, the results of this study revealed that switching costs, attractiveness of alternatives, and perceived network externality were significantly and positively associated with loyalty, but their interaction effects with satisfaction on loyalty were not significant.
The findings should add to the understanding of travelers’ value perception of travel websites and website switching behaviors. In addition to its contribution to the literature, online travel and tourism businesses or organizations benefit from suggestions of practical applications for retaining customers.

Categorization of Phishing Detection Features And Using the Feature Vectors to Classify Phishing WebsitesJanuary 2017 (has links)
abstract: Phishing is a form of online fraud where a spoofed website tries to gain access to user's sensitive information by tricking the user into believing that it is a benign website. There are several solutions to detect phishing attacks such as educating users, using blacklists or extracting phishing characteristics found to exist in phishing attacks. In this thesis, we analyze approaches that extract features from phishing websites and train classification models with extracted feature set to classify phishing websites. We create an exhaustive list of all features used in these approaches and categorize them into 6 broader categories and 33 finer categories. We extract 59 features from the URL, URL redirects, hosting domain (WHOIS and DNS records) and popularity of the website and analyze their robustness in classifying a phishing website. Our emphasis is on determining the predictive performance of robust features. We evaluate the classification accuracy when using the entire feature set and when URL features or site popularity features are excluded from the feature set and show how our approach can be used to effectively predict specific types of phishing attacks such as shortened URLs and randomized URLs. Using both decision table classifiers and neural network classifiers, our results indicate that robust features seem to have enough predictive power to be used in practice. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Computer Science 2017

Outsourcing Dinners : a study about trust-enhancing measures of meal kit companiesBlom, Anna, Borg, Jenny January 2018 (has links)
Purpose - The purpose of this study was to explore how companies that sell household services work with trust-enhancing measures. We reviewed the industry segment of meal kit companies and aimed to generate findings representative for this industry. Methodology - The study applied a qualitative research methodology where seven semi-structured interviews with company representatives were held. Findings - Trust-enhancing measures were performed when the companies emphasised competence through their communication of company values, values connected to high grocery quality, the work behind recipe creation and lastly by providing educational content which portrayed them as the experts. Another trust-enhancing measure was the use of consumer reviews. Implications - For household service companies to enter the consumer’s personal sphere, enhancing trust is key. This can be done through conveying that the companies have the expertise needed to fulfil their promise - this to assure the consumer that he or she does not need to worry. Contribution - To the best of our knowledge, few studies have considered company trust- enhancing measures within the context of outsourcing household services. Consequently, we hoped to contribute to literature and shed light on this phenomenon.

Previous issue date: 2009-06-20 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / The quality evaluation of the internet sites is today, a topic of study of several researchers
worldwide. Different models of sites analyses with diverse central points came up in the
academy with focus which alternate themselves between the evaluation of the technological
aspects and the quality measurement perceived by the user or consumer. In this research, the
WebQual device was used, which was created by Loiacono (2000), and it has the privilege of
evaluating the sites quality through the user´s or consumer´s view. The present research aims to
evaluate the sites quality of the hotels in the Paraíba capital in the users´perception, and taking
into account the WebQual model constructs which are use facility, usage, interactivity and
complementary relation. The main factors, present in the sites, were identified in order to find
out which ones motivate the users to visit them again. A non-random sample, obtained by the
accessibility and convenience criterion was made up with guests and non-guests who are users
of the sites, with a total sum of 377 who were interviewed. The survey was carried out by means
of structured questionnaire and the results were analyzed through a data descriptive analysis, a
confirmatory factorial analysis, a structural equation model technique and multiple linear
regression. The constructs demonstrated convergent and discriminatory validity and, compound
trustworthiness, in addition to pointing out the positive influence of the utility, of the online
operations as well as the entertainment when revisiting the hotel sites. The results obtained by
this survey enabled the suggestion of adjustments in the WebQual model for its application.

A tecnologia em prol da divulgação científica: criação de um site como meio de promoção da circulação de conhecimentos sociolinguísticos e do combate ao preconceito linguístico / Technology for the benefit of science communication: creating a website as a way of promoting the circulation of sociolinguistic knowledge and the fight against linguistic prejudiceThayane Santos Antunes 31 March 2015 (has links)
This dissertation is the description of a work whose main objective was the creation of a website with materials about the linguistic prejudice subject, with the intention of promoting a circulation of scientific knowledge among several classes of the non-academic society. Our first motivations for the achievement of a work of this kind initiated after the controversy occurred in the year of 2011 about a schoolbook which, according to the press, would teach students to speak wrongly. This situation showed an existing absence of dialogue between academy and society regarding to sociolinguistic subjects. We noticed the need of making a scientific communication that could reach the society successfully, in order to make people know about the subject and, at least, reflect about it. Even though there are already many works made by linguists with this same purpose, like Bagno (1997,1999), Bortoni-Ricardo (2004, 2005) and Scherre (2005), these are already very limited, for being, in the majority, books and academic articles. Making use as our basis of the indivisibility principle between teaching, research and extension (MEC/Sesu, 2006), we aimed to unite the resulting scientific research of the sociolinguistic studies to the extension with the divulgation of the subject to the people that are out of the academic environment and to the teaching, creating and sharing materials that can also be used in the classroom. To achieve such objective, having the idea suggested by Baronas (2010) as our inspiration and following the examples of Ribeiro (2006), Chagas (2012) and Pauleto (2013), we created a website with several materials about the linguistic prejudice subject, such as media clips, pictures and informative texts. As a complement of this work, we also created a Facebook page, in order to reach more effective divulgation, knowing that, nowadays, the internet is one of the easiest, fastest and widest ways of sharing information. Our intention was to promote a circulation of knowledge, applying the linguistic gratuity principle, presented by Wolfram (1998), and assuming a role of an agent of social change, according to Charity (2008). In order to verify the effectiveness of our work, we used an evaluation in the models of a Likert scale questionnaire, answered by three different groups of evaluators. Our results showed that the website was approved by the three evaluation groups, showing that this kind of work is efficient and promissory, being an effective and wide way of promoting the circulation of knowledge and the divulgation of a message against linguistic prejudice

The social query is a way to find information in social media age. It is the process of
sharing a problem with the user of an online community and waiting for answers.
Getting help demands that someone able and willing to help perceives the request.
However, this is not always easy. In this context, the literature about this theme has
focused in proposing question routing techniques, arguing that directing the problem to
experts warns their attention and guarantees high quality answers. However, there are
questions that are directed to nobody, but broadcasted, that also receive answers. In
this research, we ask the community from Question and Answering Sites about
Programming which characteristics they expect in questions they choose to respond.
We gathered these answers and created a guideline with 16 suggestions on how to
include “good” characteristics in the question. Next, we evaluated how the presence of
more of these characteristics was correlated with the question performance
(considering features like the number of views, number of answers and time for first
response). We found very weak correlations only; thus, indicating that the presence of
more of these characteristics has no meaningful impact, even if the community
believes it does.
