Management of pedestrian mobility to reduce user’s waiting times inside the Canada station BRT in Lima

Atapauccar Escalante, Katherine, Ramirez Ruiz, Bryan Hugo 18 September 2020 (has links)
The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is a bus-based public transport system that increase the effectiveness of public transportation through dedicated lanes with busways and independent stations. However, the pedestrian routes disorder at the station, the high density and the interaction between pedestrians produce high waiting times since the entrance at the station until the board at the bus. The present research proposes a management of pedestrian mobility focused on modify the pedestrian routes and adapting the entrance and exit of the station. The main objective of the investigation is reducing the waiting times of users at the station. Users waiting times at the station were measured by visiting a BRT station located in the city of Lima. The collection of information makes it possible to establish the peak pedestrian traffic hours and demonstrate that users can spend more time at the station than on the bus. The improvement proposal was simulated in Vissim software in order to determine its reducing waiting times efficiency. The results show that users waiting times at the station were reduced by 25%. On the other hand, the pedestrian density and conflict points between pedestrians decreased by 44% and 73% respectively. Finally, increase in the pedestrian velocity of the corridors was obtained by 37%. / Tesis

Evaluation of a medium-sized enterprise’s performance by data analysis : Introducing innovative smart manufacturing perspectives

Joseph Anand, Emmanuel, Chica Zafra, Luis Carlos January 2019 (has links)
Small and medium-sized enterprises are highly limited on resources for the transformation into smart factories. Nytt AB, a new startup specialized in smart manufacturing solutions, is completely focused on taking down the barriers with a basic solution: implementing a machine vision system with the purpose to monitor the machines of the factories. The main aim of this thesis is to analyze the data collected from two different machines of a medium-sized factory by monitoring the color states of the stack lights.First of all, some topics are analyzed in order to get a better understanding and knowledge of the main topic of this thesis: smart manufacturing. Secondly, the methodology used during the project is explained. Thirdly, the product developed by Nytt AB is described to get a better understanding. Together with this, the companies where the product is implemented are described. The next step is the presentation of the results by analyzing the data according to these parameters:(i), the availability of the machines, (ii), critical machine tool analysis; (iii),machine idling time; (iv), disruption events; and finally, (v), information transfer. In the results, some graphs and discussions are presented. In the following chapter the conclusions are presented, which allow the analyzed company to improve its current state. Lastly, the relocation of the product into the critical machine, the implementation of new sensors to detect temperature and vibration values of the machines and the implementation of the module OpApp within the factories are suggestions presented as future work at the end of this report. Investigating the Impact of Age-Biased Samples on Lifetime Prediction Models of Traffic Signs

Wickramarachchi, Anupa, Jayasinghe, Nuwan January 2024 (has links)
The thesis investigates the impact of age-biased sampling on the accuracy of lifetime prediction models for traffic signs. The bias in question originates from age-biased sampling as a result of the inspection paradox. This phenomenon occurs because longer intervals have a higher probability of being observed compared to shorter intervals, leading to a skewed representation in the data. The research employs a dual approach: firstly, conducting an extensive analysis of real data on traffic sign longevity using a Weibull Survival Model. This analysis is based on the data set compiled by Saleh et al., (2023). Secondly, the study sets up a Monte Carlo simulation to systematically explore the effects of varying degrees and patterns of age bias on the sample. The simulation parameters are derived from the original Weibull Model parameters, obtained from the real dataset. This approach ensures that the simulations closely replicate the actual parameters and estimates. The comparison of the true shape, scale, intercept, and the coefficients associated with the covariates against the simulated estimates indicates a significant bias in the dataset. The study also examines the impact of this bias on the predictive capabilities of various models: Weibull Modeling, Cox Proportional Hazards, Kaplan Meier, and Random Survival Forest. This is done by comparing the true means and medians of the simulated data with the estimates from each model. The findings show that all models exhibit large deviations from the actual means and medians at varying bias levels in the simulated data. The accuracy of the predictions is measured using the Brier Score. This score also shows significant deviations from the prediction accuracy of the original Weibull Model applied to the real dataset, especially when the bias levels vary across simulated datasets. Given these findings, the study advises against using the aforementioned methods for lifetime modeling of traffic signs when there is age bias due to the inspection paradox.

Random allocations: new and extended models and techniques with applications and numerics.

Kennington, Raymond William January 2007 (has links)
This thesis provides a general methodology for classifying and describing many combinatoric problems, systematising and finding theoretical expressions for quantities of interest, and investigating their feasible numerical evaluation. Unifying notation and definitions are provided. Our knowledge of random allocations is also extended. This is achieved by investigating new processes, generalising known processes, and by providing a formal structure and innovative techniques for analysing them. The random allocation models described in this thesis can be classified as occupancy urn models, in which we have a sequence of urns and throw balls into them, and investigate static, waiting-time and dynamic processes. Various structures are placed on the relationship(s) between cells, balls, and the selection of items being distributed, including varieties, batch arrivals, taboo sets and blocking sets. Static, waiting-time and dynamic processes are investigated. Both without-replacement and with-replacement sampling types are considered. Emphasis is placed on the distributions of waiting-times for one or more events to occur measured from the time a particular event occurs; this begins as an abstraction and generalisation of a model of departures of cars parked in lanes. One of several additional determinations is the platoon size distribution. Models are analysed using combinatorial analysis and Markov Chains. Global attributes are measured, including maximum waits, maximum room required, moments and the clustering of completions. Various conversion formulae have been devised to reduce calculation times by several orders of magnitude. New and extended applications include Queueing in Lanes, Cake Displays, Coupon Collector's Problem, Sock-Sorting, Matching Dependent Sets (including Genetic Code Attribute Matching and the game SET), the Zig-Zag Problem, Testing for Randomness (including the Cake Display Test, which is a without-replacement test similar to the standard Empty Cell test), Waiting for Luggage at an Airport, Breakdowns in a Network, Learning Theory and Estimating the Number of Skeletons at an Archaeological Dig. Fundamental, reduction and covering theorems provide ways to reduce the number of calculations required. New combinatorial identities are discovered and a well-known one is proved in a combinatorial way for the first time. Some known results are derived from simple cases of the general models. / http://proxy.library.adelaide.edu.au/login?url= http://library.adelaide.edu.au/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?BBID=1309598 / Thesis (Ph.D.) -- University of Adelaide, School of Mathematical Sciences, 2007

Modeling of Healthcare Delivery in Sweden / Modellering av sjukvården i Sverige

Dzubur, Sabina January 2023 (has links)
A large part of Swedish medical care is expected to be provided from the primary health centers. However, these centers are experiencing challenges in terms of shortages of personnel, an increased volume of patients, higher workload, increasing queue lengths, and increasing costs. Addressing these issues at the primary health centers is important for both improving the operation at the local centers and the functionality of the Swedish healthcare system. This thesis aims to explore the primary health center operation, focusing on a typical public primary health center in Stockholm. This is done to find parameters that affect the flow of patients and develop a graphical model that serves as a foundation for further model development, simulations and optimization of good health. To address the complex and dynamic primary health center system, a system dynamics approach is adopted. A literature review was conducted to gain an understanding of the primary health center environment and to identify parameters that impact the primary health centers ability to operate and/or affect the quality of service towards patients. The model development involved constructing cases and extracting parameters that change over time. The parameter relationships were determined through interpretation and are supported by literature. The model was qualitatively validated with the assistance of expert feedback. The presented result is determined to capture the basic operation of the primary health center and the model can be used as a foundation for further simulations.

A Simulation Game Approach for Improving Access to Specialized Healthcare Services in Sweden / En simuleringsspelsmetod för att förbättra tillgången till specialiserad sjukvård tjänster i Svergie

Alkhatib, Najla January 2024 (has links)
In Sweden, where a decentralized healthcare system is applied, all patients are registered at a primary healthcare center. To access most of the publicly funded specialized care clinics, patients need to be referred by a general physician at the primary healthcare center. However, long waiting times and queues to access specialized care clinics in Sweden, has been a serious problem and concern for decades. Addressing this issue is important for improving patients’ transition to specialized care and the functionality of the Swedish healthcare system. The aim of this thesis is to explore the Swedish healthcare system to analyze the transition of patients to specialized care clinics and identify the reasons for long waiting times and queues. This was done by analyzing the Swedish healthcare system and develop a serious game prototype which models the process of access to specialized care within the Swedish healthcare system. The prototype was used to understand the delay that happens in patients’ transition and access process to specialized care services.  A system analysis including a literature review is conducted to gain an understanding of the Swedish healthcare system and gather data to be used in the designed prototype. The outcome of the system analysis is a visual representation of the Swedish healthcare system including laws and stakeholders. A game frame is developed from the system analysis. Maps, tables, and a flow-diagram are developed to visualize patients’ access to specialized care. All of this was used to design the game prototype. The final prototype is developed through an iterative process, where several prototypes are designed and tested through game sessions with experts. The prototypes are evaluated after each game session. Finally, learning and findings gained from the prototypes design and the game sessions are documented. This includes reasons for long waiting times for a first visit at a specialized care clinic such as the structure of the Swedish healthcare system, mainly that the PHC is the foundation of the system. Staff shortages, and the need for a referral to access most of the specialized clinics are also discussed and stated along with other reasons.

Komparace české a slovenské právní úpravy dovolené / Comparison of Czech and Slovak legal regulation of leave

Blatný, Richard January 2021 (has links)
1 Abstract and keywords in the English language Comparison of Czech and Slovak legal regulation of leave Abstract The dissertation contains an overview of labor law legislation, especially the regulation of holidays, in the territory of historical Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia on the one hand and in the territory of today's Slovakia on the other hand. For a better understanding of the issue, an overview of the development of working conditions and labor protection in a given time context in both cultural areas is also provided. I believe that the presented comparison of legal regulations in both territories is an interesting excursion not only in terms of labor law itself, but also in the field of legal history. I believe that in the presented summary of the work it provides important and interesting expanding knowledge in the field of labor law and social security law. In my opinion, similar work was lacking in our market, and therefore it can be assumed that in this direction it will contribute to its enrichment if it is possible to realize its book edition, which is under negotiation. An overview of the material described above is given in twelve chapters since the beginning of the 14th century, when labor relations developed in the Czech lands, about which written reports already exist. In the case of...
