Magnetic field simulation and mapping for the Qweak experiment

The Qweak experiment at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab) will measure the proton's weak charge by measuring the parity violating asymmetry in elastic electron-proton scattering at very low momentum transfer, with the aim of determining the proton's weak charge with 4% combined statistical and systematic errors. The experimental apparatus includes a longitudinally polarized electron beam, a liquid hydrogen target, a room temperature toroidal magnetic spectrometer, and a set of precision detectors for the scattered electrons. The toroidal magnetic spectrometer, which will deflect away the inelastic scattered electrons and focus the elastic scattered electrons onto the detectors, plays a crucially important role in the experiment. In this thesis, in order to meet the requirements for the installation and calibration of the toroidal magnetic spectrometer, the numerical simulation of the spectrometer's magnetic field based on a realistic magnet model is discussed, a precise 3D field mapping is introduced, and some simulation results are provided. The zero-crossing analysis technique, which can be used to precisely infer the individual coil locations of the toroidal magnet, is presented and explored in detail.

The hypothesis is that happened a conceptual and taxonomic restructuring from weak to rogue states since the securitization of underdevelopment of the weak states and of political instrumentalization of rogue states taxonomy. The analysis of hypothesis is based on postcolonial approaches as theoric-methodologic substratum. In analysis of weak states the aim is to contextualize the beginning of construction of this taxonomy, since of underdevelopment securitization process. In analysis of rogue states the aim is verified the process of construction of rogue taxonomy and how maintains this process itself. As final considerations, there is not a conceptual and taxonomic restructuring so unanimous. If the assumptions of Rational Modern State were accepted, some States may be considered weak, but not rogue, while another may be called rogue, but not weak. It was found, however, the political exploitation of state's taxonomies, according to the diagnoses made by outside actors of state to be cataloged, especially by the United States. / Essa dissertação tem por objetivo analisar a formação e utilização das taxonomias estatais weak states e rogue states à luz da instrumentalização política das mesmas. A hipótese é que houve uma reestruturação conceitual e taxonômica dos weak para rogue states a partir da securitização do subdesenvolvimento dos weak states e da instrumentalização política da taxonomia rogue states. Na análise da hipótese foram utilizadas as abordagens pós-coloniais como substrato teórico-metodológico. Na análise dos weak states o objetivo é contextualizar o início do processo de construção da taxonomia weak, desde o processo de securitização do subdesenvolvimento. Na análise dos rogue states o objetivo é verificar o processo de construção dessa taxonomia e como ela se sustenta. Por fim, considera-se que não há uma reestruturação conceitual e taxonômica de forma unânime. Se, se aceitar as premissas do Estado Racional Moderno, alguns Estados podem ser considerados weak, mas não rogue, enquanto outros podem ser rogue, mas não weak. O que se verifica, no entanto, é a instrumentalização política das taxonomias, segundo os diagnósticos elaborados por atores externos ao Estado a ser catalogado, principalmente pelos Estados Unidos.

In 1896, Frobenius began the study of character theory while factoring the group determinant. Later in 1963, Brauer pointed out that the relationship between characters and their groups was still not fully understood. He published a series of questions that he felt would be important to resolve. In response to these questions, Johnson, Mattarei, and Sehgal developed the idea of a weak Cayley table map between groups. The set of all weak Cayley table maps from one group to itself also has a group structure, which we will call the weak Cayley table group. We will examine the weak Cayley table group of AGL(1; p) and the dicyclic groups, a nd a normal subgroup of the weak Cayley table group for a special case with Camina pairs and Semi-Direct products with a normal Hall-π subgroup, and look at some nontrivial weak Cayley table elements for certain p-groups. We also define a relative weak Cayley table and a relative weak Cayley table map. We will examine the relationship between relative weak Cayley table maps and weak Cayley table maps, automorphisms and anti-automorphisms, characters and spherical functions.

Thesis (MSc (Physics))--University of Stellenbosch, 2007. / In this thesis we present a relativistic formalism for the description of hypernuclei production via the weak interaction. It will be shown that the cross section can be written as the contraction of a leptonic and hadronic tensor if we model the interaction as a quasifree process. The hadronic tensor is written in a model-independent way in terms of thirteen nuclear structure functions. A Born term model is used to describe the underlying elementary hyperon production process. The bound state wave functions of the hyperon and nucleon are calculated within a relativistic mean-field approximation. Together with the relativistic kinematics a fully relativistic framework for experimental predictions is constructed and a specific cross section calculation is discussed.

We measure the cross-correlation between weak lensing of galaxy images and of the cosmic microwave background (CMB). The effects of gravitational lensing on different sources will be correlated if the lensing is caused by the same mass fluctuations. We use galaxy shape measurements from 139 deg(2) of the Dark Energy Survey (DES) Science Verification data and overlapping CMB lensing from the South Pole Telescope (SPT) and Planck. The DES source galaxies have a median redshift of z(med) similar to 0.7, while the CMB lensing kernel is broad and peaks at z similar to 2. The resulting cross-correlation is maximally sensitive to mass fluctuations at z similar to 0.44. Assuming the Planck 2015 best-fitting cosmology, the amplitude of the DESxSPT cross-power is found to be A(SPT) = 0.88 +/- 0.30 and that from DESxPlanck to be A(Planck) = 0.86 +/- 0.39, where A = 1 corresponds to the theoretical prediction. These are consistent with the expected signal and correspond to significances of 2.9 sigma and 2.2 sigma, respectively. We demonstrate that our results are robust to a number of important systematic effects including the shear measurement method, estimator choice, photo-z uncertainty and CMB lensing systematics. We calculate a value of A = 1.08 +/- 0.36 for DESxSPT when we correct the observations with a simple intrinsic alignment model. With three measurements of this cross-correlation now existing in the literature, there is not yet reliable evidence for any deviation from the expected LCDM level of cross-correlation. We provide forecasts for the expected signal-to-noise ratio of the combination of the five-year DES survey and SPT-3G.
