Orders From the Cloud : Business Integration as a ServiceHammar, Karl January 2009 (has links)
<p>This thesis describes the development of a SOA-based architecture for integrating large EDI-using manufacturing companies purchasing processes with smaller non-EDI capable manufacturing companies, using online services.</p><p>The underlying need for this project lies with the fact that these small manufacturing companies risk to miss out on business, due to their inability to communicate via the industry standard EDI format. At the same time, getting EDI-capable involves significant investments in software licenses, connectivity services and consulting or training that these small companies may not be ready to make. The mentor company of this thesis project, System Andersson, produces resource planning software for this type of companies and would like to be able to provide them with an easy to use way of “jacking in” EDI support into their businesses, without having to make such significant investments. Ideally this feature would be developed as a standalone subscription based service that could be provided to users in such a way that their existing System Andersson software could connect to it and no further hard- or software would be needed on site. This EDI-enabling should be as easy as to be entirely transparent for the end-user companies. The task handed to the author was thus to develop an architecture for how such a subscription based service could be developed. Furthermore, in order to promote re-use and simplify development, the architecture was to be based on SOA concepts.</p><p>As a result of the project, such an architecture has been developed. The architecture details two services for translating and storing for later delivery a number of EDI message types of the EDIFACT variety. The architecture also specifies communications protocols (SOAP over HTTPS and AS2 over HTTPS) and APIs (web services) for how to communicate with these services. These specifications can be used to implement a system that performs the necessary integration, so that the smaller companies may indeed communicate via EDI.</p><p>The fitness of the developed architecture has been tested by implementing a prototype version of such a system based on it. It has also been validated by way of comparing to how well it adheres to SOA design principles. All in all, this design appears to be quite sound and presents a working solution to the studied problem.</p>

Tjänsteorienterad arkitektur med AJAX : Service oriented architecture with AJAXEkman, Nils January 2008 (has links)
<p>Through the entry of web 2.0 the technologies behind web development has changed dramatically. Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX) is the umbrella term for different techniques that make it possible to build rich and interactive user interfaces in today’s web browsers. Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) describes how common services can be bundled and published so they can be consumed by different systems.</p><p>The company SYSteam Evolution AB, which has requested this project, wanted a web application that shows a graphical activity chart in order to easier view ongoing projects. The goal for this project is to develop a demo platform that shows how AJAX and SOA can be used to create flexible and reusable applications. To reach the goals, many different frameworks and technologies need to cooperate and work together.</p><p>This report will describe the different technologies that have been used and explain the different steps in the development job.</p><p>The result of the work has lead to a demo platform that uses many different technologies to show a graphical activity chart. The job requestor and the author are very pleased with the result of the work.</p> / <p>Genom intåget av web 2.0 har teknologierna bakom webbutveckling ändrats drastiskt.

Cascading Web Services in Mobile Environments : Bridging Wireless and Wired Networks for Data TransactionsKajtazi, Miranda, Vogel, Bahtijar January 2007 (has links)
<p>Cascading Web Services represent a collection of services offered in a system consisting of multiple devices and multiple interacting platform independent networks. ‘Cascading’ enables Web Services to exploit access in diverse environments without manual intervention. The aim of this thesis is to investigate how Mobile Web Services interact with multiple other Web Services by allowing the generated content to cascade. These services are demonstrated as a technical design solution, in a number of cases within the field of Learning technologies. Communication among devices is preceded using request-response commands by cascading these commands between different Web Services that are self-contained and independent on their context or state.</p><p>The system signifies a typical Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) based on a distributed system. Cascading Web Services involve multiple transport networks including Bluetooth Technology, GPRS, Wi-Fi, and Wired Networks. Whereas the protocol of this communication is to bridge Wired and Wireless networks for data transactions, specifically from a Bluetooth location-based network. A number of particular cases will be illustrated in the context of ‘educational outdoor activities’, to demonstrate how the system solution works involving users.</p>

Web Services : A Comparative StudyEkelund, Marcus, Larsson, Andreas January 2004 (has links)
<p>This Master thesis enhances an existing library search system with a new dynamic web interface and introduces the ability to perform remote searches by using Web Services. The remote search functionality also includes the ability to compress SOAP-messages, this functionality is optional. The system is implemented using the Microsoft.NET Framework with Visual Studio C#. A library needs to store information about articles and we have chosen to use a Sybase Adaptive Server Anywhere database.</p><p>The practical part of this thesis describes the architecture of our implementation and the design process.</p><p>The theoretical part is a comparative study between dynamically created web pages and static pages, SOAP-compression versus no compression, SOAP-optimization versus no optimisation and the use of Web Services locally versus local classes.</p>

Designing an Experiment to Compare Component SystemsKarlsson, Claes January 2006 (has links)
<p>The aim of this work is to design an experiment, where client-server systems can be compared. They belong to the group of systems that are called component systems. Client-server systems are difficult to compare, because they are complex. The client-server systems are documented in different ways. Notations in the implementation of them are in different ways. There is a large difference in the communication between the client and server. The architectures between the client-server systems differ also, but they are not totally different. Therefore it is possible to construct an experiment for comparing them. Client-server systems that will be compared are Java RMI, Web Services, CORBA, and Enterprise JavaBeans. We are going to use Java as the programming language. Some of these systems, for example CORBA, can be implemented in other languages. The designed experiment is among other things going to answer how long time is needed to implement a specific application, how fast a specific client-server system is, and how long time is spent for learning about a specific system.</p>

Selection and Implementation of Technologies for the Re-Engineering of an Existing Software SystemNaspinski, Stan William 01 January 2011 (has links)
A major hurdle for any company to cross is the act of re-engineering software if they wish to stay relevant. With the speed that software and technology advances, it would be ignorant for any product to stagnate. With that comes the inherent difficulties of choosing
which of the older technologies to keep (if any) and which newer technologies to employ in the re-engineered solution. Once that is covered, the actual implementation presents its own set of challenges to both the decision makers and developers in the process.
This thesis describes a case study, in particular the efforts put forth to re-engineer some specific software. While the software is quite capable, it is becoming more and more out-dated every passing year, not to mention more difficult to maintain, upgrade and alter,
providing a perfect example to explore.
The focus of this thesis is to discuss what avenues of upgrading and methods of providing comparable or improved services to the end user our team chose and implemented. These include using a relational database with an advanced object-relational mapper in a modern environment to provide a REpresentational State Transfer (REST) web service that will then supply a rich interactive front-end. Taken together, these tools are quite powerful and capable.

sALERT : an intelligent information alerting and notification web service / Intelligent information alerting and notification web serviceBhaduri, Sashmit B. 13 August 2012 (has links)
Web services increasingly serve as large repositories and conduits of information. However, they do not always allow for the efficient dissemination of this information, particularly in a reactive way. In this report, I describe sALERT, a web-based application that allows for targeted information from various web services to be combined and cross-referenced in order to produce a system that is more convenient and more efficient in reactively disseminating information. This dissemination is performed using mobile notification mechanisms such as text messages, and information targeting is performed using data from social networks and geolocation sources. I present the design, implementation, and plans for future improvement for this service within this report. / text

(Autorenref.)
