This technology, standardized by W3C and OASIS, is susceptible to both injection and denial of services (DoS) attacks. In this way, the attacker can collect and manipulate information in search of Web Services vulnerabilities. In this study we analyses the use of the WSInject fault injector, in order to emulate attacks with security tests on Web Services. The proposed approach makes use of WSInject Fault Injector to emulate attacks with Security Testing on Web Services. The motivation for using a fault injector, instead of vulnerabilities scanners, which are commonly used in practice for security testing, was to enable better coverage of attacks. In a preliminary study, using a non-commercial vulnerability scanner, it was possible to determine: (i) the Web Services to be tested as well as its parameters and operations more interesting to use during fault injection, by presenting the highest number of vulnerabilities; and (ii) a set of rules to analyze the results of security testing. These preliminary results served as a guide for the tests using the fault injector. The faults have been injected into real Web Services, and some of them have security mechanisms implemented, in compliance with the Web Services Security (WS-Security) with Security Tokens / Mestrado / Ciência da Computação / Mestre em Ciência da Computação

L'articulation des technologies de l'information et de la communication pour l'enseignement (TICE) avec l'apprentissage des langues étrangères : l'enseignement de la grammaire aux apprenants arabophones / Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in learning foreign languages : grammar teaching to the Arabic-speaking learners

Al Sabri, Moujahed 07 May 2010 (has links)
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in education modify the approach of learning foreign languages. Multiple intelligence as ICT require adapted jonction of the management of the educational contents with the technological potentialities. This study is interested in teaching and training French grammar, with proper technology, directly accessible on line by Internet, bound for foreign students, most specifically Arabic-speaking learners. Falling under an active prospect, the research takes support on the methods of communication ethnography and aims at observing a corpus of accessible grammar sites on Internet. Therefore, the objective of our thesis is plural. On the one hand, it is initially a question of studying the interference errors in grammar at Yemeni Arabic-speaking people, and, on the other hand, analysing web sites dedicated to grammar teaching, in view of their ergonomical qualities and their mode of appropriation by the foreign students. The ethnography of practices on line allows, in a second time, to compare the uses awaited by the originators of the ICT’s with the real outcome. Finally we seek, by this study, to contribute to a better evaluation of the current reality of this technologized teaching/ training and to take part in the evolution of educational technologies which would benefit for both teachers and students.

Assessing Perceived Credibility of Web Sites in a Terrorism Context: The PFLP, Tamil Tigers, Hamas, and Hezbollah

Spinks, Brandon Todd 05 1900 (has links)
The purpose of the study was to contribute to the overall understanding of terrorist organizations' use of the Internet and to increase researchers' knowledge of Web site effectiveness. The methodological approach was evaluation of the perceived credibility of Web sites based on existing criteria derived from information users. The Web sites of four terrorist organizations were assessed: two secular nationalist groups, the People's Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam (LTTE or Tamil Tigers); and two religious nationalist groups, Hamas and Hezbollah. The findings of this analysis showed differences in perceived credibility factors among terrorist organizations' Web sites and positive levels of perceived credibility for the Web sites. These findings indicate the potential for positive impressions of the organizations' Web sites by information users, which would help empower the organizations with the capacity to reach their objectives. By using Web sites, these groups can effectively increase their support base through disseminating information, improving recruiting, and attracting monetary contributions, and can establish themselves as legitimate components of society.

Why are those computers sitting over there gathering dust

Austin, Bradford Ralph 01 January 2005 (has links)
The purpose of this project was to create electronic books (E-books) for kindergartens to read during their center time. The E-books are intended for kindergarten teachers to use to help their students learn to read while utilizing the technology resources in their classroom. These E-books are teacher created so the cost is minimal and they can be copied and distributed to each student without worrying about copyright laws. Teachers can customize them to fit the current thematic unit they are teaching and once created, they can be used repeadedly without being damaged like paper books.

Brand and usability in content-intensive websites

Yang, Tao 11 July 2014 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Our connections to the digital world are invoked by brands, but the intersection of branding and interaction design is still an under-investigated area. Particularly, current websites are designed not only to support essential user tasks, but also to communicate an institution's intended brand values and traits. What we do not yet know, however, is which design factors affect which aspect of a brand. To demystify this issue, three sub-projects were conducted. The first project developed a systematic approach for evaluating the branding effectiveness of content-intensive websites (BREW). BREW gauges users' brand perceptions on four well-known branding constructs: brand as product, brand as organization, user image, and brand as person. It also provides rich guidelines for eBranding researchers in regard to planning and executing a user study and making improvement recommendations based on the study results. The second project offered a standardized perceived usability questionnaire entitled DEEP (design-oriented evaluation of perceived web usability). DEEP captures the perceived website usability on five design-oriented dimensions: content, information architecture, navigation, layout consistency, and visual guidance. While existing questionnaires assess more holistic concepts, such as ease-of-use and learnability, DEEP can more transparently reveal where the problem actually lies. Moreover, DEEP suggests that the two most critical and reliable usability dimensions are interface consistency and visual guidance. Capitalizing on the BREW approach and the findings from DEEP, a controlled experiment (N=261) was conducted by manipulating interface consistency and visual guidance of an anonymized university website to see how these variables may affect the university's image. Unexpectedly, consistency did not significantly predict brand image, while the effect of visual guidance on brand perception showed a remarkable gender difference. When visual guidance was significantly worsened, females became much less satisfied with the university in terms of brand as product (e.g., teaching and research quality) and user image (e.g., students' characteristics). In contrast, males' perceptions of the university's brand image stayed the same in most circumstances. The reason for this gender difference was revealed through a further path analysis and a follow-up interview, which inspired new research directions to unpack even more the nexus between branding and interaction design.

A critical discourse analysis of strategies used to construct South African initiation schools in online news reports and discussion forums

Fynn, Angelo 08 1900 (has links)
This thesis examines the discourse strategies used to construct initiation schools in online media and message boards. The focus is on understanding the tensions that come with enacting traditional practices in the face of modernity and its associated cultural expectations. The thesis describes the manner in which these tensions are constructed in text by the media in news reports and participants in discussion forums. While there is still debate around whether the internet will revolutionise public participation and create a digital utopia; the internet is acknowledged as one of the widest reaching sources of information and entertainment. Specifically, the internet provides a platform to challenge the traditionally top-down communication between the elite, who have privileged access to the media, and the general public, who were previously constructed as passive recipients of information. Using the male circumcision initiation rite, this thesis examines how the South African public discursively constructs the epistemic location of African traditions in South Africa. The study drew on a sample of news articles from the News24 site, the largest news site in South Africa, ranging from January 2008 to December 2013. A corpus of 62 articles were analysed using the Critical Discourse Analysis technique described by Teun van Dijk. The findings of the thesis were that the initiation rite is used as a rhetorical tool to argue for the abandonment of African cultural practices in favour of modern, Western influenced beliefs and values. The findings also indicate that the initiation rite is reduced to the act of circumcision in the media by focusing on the injury and deaths of the initiates and excluding the meaning of the rite as a meaningful cultural practice. The conclusion of the thesis challenges the epistemicide committed against the male circumcision initiation rite from within the Decolonial school of thought, which critically examines everyday interaction for universalising, normative language that aims to commit cultural epistemicide to reinforce the white, male, European, Christian traditions of masculinity. / Psychology / D.
