Memory is considered a key psychological process. Over the past two decades, several different views of how memory is represented and organized have been proposed. In 19th century Wilhelm Wundt conducted a number of memory experiments that seems to have been neglected for some time of modern cognitive psychologists and neurocientists. In this work core concepts of Wundt´s system are reviewed (object and method of psychology, mind and causality psychic) and his experimental work on memory is exposed. The Wundtian perspective reflects a strict adherence to a method firmly grounded in a theoretical framework in which memory is inserted in a research project to exploring the conscious experience. This review of Wundt´s approach to memory is intented also related the Wundt´s memory psychology with the modern research in development psychology on memory and provide some questions to debate about the concept of memory, his nature and relation with phenomena like consciousness.

The aim of this work is to compare the definitions of subject and method introduced in Wilhelm Wundt‟s and Edward Titchener‟s projects of experimental psychology. Considering the mistaken proximity between the authors which is found in handbooks of psychology and the shortage of more systematic studies about Titchener‟s work, especially in the Brazilian context, the comparisons between the ideas of both authors, available in the secondary literature, they still have not been sufficient to demonstrate the differences between their proposals. Due to this situation, it is proposed a comparison of the definitions of subject and method in psychology, specifically in the works which represent the period of maturity of Wundt‟s ideas, with those ones which characterize the classical expression of Titchener‟s structuralism. The central thesis is, in function of the distinct theoretical assumptions, the notions of the human experience and the realm of the psychic acquire a different meaning in the thought of each author, forming this way different subjects of study and, consequently, a different understanding about the possibilities and limits of the experimental method.

The present work analyzes the the intellectual and institutional trajectory of Émile Durkheim to understand the appropriation he made of Wilhelm Wundt’s experimental psychology in his works. For this reason, this work also analyzes the trajectory of Théodule Ribot, precursor of scientific psychology in France and popularizer of Wundt’s theory. In order to do that, the work analyzes the institutional changes of the universities of France, as well as the political changes that resulted from the Franco-Prussian War and the establishment of the Third Republic, fundamental to understand the appropriation of German theories in the period.

Meyer, Till 26 April 2022 (has links)

Nerve languages : the critical response to the physiological psychology of Wilhelm Wundt by Dada and Surrealism

Mowris, Peter Michael 09 February 2011 (has links)
Scholarship on Dada and Surrealism has established that psychology was a major intellectual source for artists in both groups. However, a burgeoning amount of recent work in both the history of art and of science indicates that types of psychology other than psychoanalysis permeated the historical context of the avant-garde. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, physiological psychology, for example, was the dominant science of the body and mind, which grounded psychic phenomena in structures of conduction in the nervous system. Modern artists saw within this discourse a fascinating and new theory of experience. In my selective history of the avant-garde’s reception and response to physiological psychology, I will argue that artists worked within and partially according to the basic tenets of this discourse, but that they reshaped its superstructural projections away from formations and taxonomies of normalcy in consciousness and action. / text
