Att delta i en Fatigue Management kurs – upplevelser från personer med MS-fatigue / Participating in a Fatigue Management course – experiences shared by people with MS-Fatigue.

Syftet med denna studie var att beskriva hur personer med MS-fatigue upplever upplägg och innehåll i FM-kursen, samt vilken betydelse de upplever att kursen haft för deras möjligheter att hantera sin MS-fatigue i vardagen. En kvalitativ metod med semistrukturerade intervjuer användes. Data är analyserad med riktad kvalitativ innehållsanalys. Resultatet visade att deltagarna upplevde att kursen var lärorik men ansträngande. Samtidigt gav kursen dem kunskap och strategier för att hantera MS-fatigue i vardagen. Huvudfyndet anses vara hur deltagarna upplever kursen stöttat dem hantera MS-fatiguen i vardagen genom användning av strategier och hjälpmedel. I diskussionen tas aspekten av resultatet om hur deltagarna blivit mer aktiva trots de infört vila i relation till aktivitetsbalans. Även aspekten om arbetsterapeutens expertis inom hjälpmedel och stödja deltagarna i användning av detta kunde möjliggöras i kursen. Konklusionen är att fler studier behövs för att studera Fatigue Management påverkan på aktivitet ur aktivitetsbalansperspektivet. / The purpose of this study was to describe how people with MS fatigue experience the structure and content of the FM course, and if the course helped them to handle their MS fatigue in their daily lives. A qualitative method of semi structured interviews was used. Data is analysed with directed qualitative content analysis. The result shows that the participants felt that the course was educative but strenuous. The course gave them knowledge and strategies for managing MS fatigue in everyday life. The main finding is considered how the participants experience the course supported them managing the MS fatigue in everyday life through the use of strategies and tools. In the discussion, the aspect of the result of how participants became more active, despite the added rest in relation to the activity balance, is taken. The aspect of the occupational assistant's expertise in assistive devices and supporting participants in using this could also be made possible in the course. The conclusion is that more studies are needed to study Fatigue Management's impact on activity from the activity balance perspective.

With the increasing mental health challenges, a growing demand for professional help can be seen. Despite their crucial role in society, the counseling profession is not sufficiently researched. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to examine counselors' ability to disconnect from work in their private lives in relation to workload. The study included 89 counselors, including 16 men, 72 women, and 1 identifying as other. The survey consisted of several background variables and two already well-developed measurement instruments, along with a self-created instrument. The analysis revealed that only the variable demand can explain 50% of the variation regarding spillover. The factors demand and control had the strongest correlation with the ability to disconnect from work. Furthermore, the analysis showed that women are more affected by work-related demand than men. Finally, the result demonstrated that a high level of health had a positive effect on spillover and the impact of the demand variable on the individual. The results allowed for further research, such as exploring the difference between 'old' and 'new' counselors.

Four separate qualitative interviews have been analyzed according to a thematic analysis. The interview questions focused on how independent artists combine their commitments, which role conflicts they experience and how they make use of boundaries.

Impact of Work-Life Balance on Health-Related Quality of Life Among College Students

Work-life balance involves the management of work and social responsibilities. Specifically, it describes the ability to meet the demands of multiple roles involving academics, social, personal, and professional life. Literature has shown that there is an increasing number of students who are working while taking classes at a university. Previous research has described how young adults balance working and going to school and how work hours influence student's mental, physical, and health behaviors. The purpose of this study is to examine the association between a student's ability to balance work demands, student and life responsibilities, and health outcomes. Using a cross-sectional design, differences between quality of life and work-life management among college students was measured with the 12-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-12) and the Work-Life Balance survey. The survey questions were built in the online survey system, Qualtrics, and distributed to students through a campus-wide email. Collected data was downloaded into SPSS, and statistical significance between quality of life, work-life balance, and student demographics was analyzed using one-way ANOVA. Results of this study showed a significant difference in work-life balance and quality of life scores between working and non-working students as well as among students' age, gender, class status, major, work hours, work location, and sleep.

Knowledge workers and the effects of remote work on occupational balance

Introduction: Technology has enabled remote work that is not location bound. Remote work is often performed by knowledge workers who focus on problemsolving and distributing information. New ways of working create a need for new information about the relationship between work and occupational balance. Aim:The aim of this study was to examine remote work´s impact on knowledge worker´s occupational balance from the perspectives of work-life balance and work-life conflict. Method: Method used was scoping review. Data were gathered with the help of electronic data bases. Results: Nine research papers and two Bachelor´s theses were analyzed for the study. Through content analysis the following categories were formed: How gender differences impact occupational balance, Environment in relation to balance, Type of work in relation to occupational balance, How family affects occupational balance and Means to maintain occupational balance. Conclusions: The findings indicate that remote work influences knowledge worker´s occupational balance. Family, type of work, environment, and gender affect the way balance is perceived. Worker and employer collaboration is important in maintaining occupational balance. Significance: As occupational balance may affect work efficiency and wellbeing positively; more research on both remote work and knowledge work should be performed

<p>This qualitative single case study examined the social and emotional needs of teachers and what they need from principals to nurture the use of effective social and emotional competencies. Individual interviews were conducted with secondary teachers from one school district in Indiana.  Three themes emerged.  Teachers need: (1) boundaries, (2) space and time, and (3) collaboration and connectedness.  In addition, this study explored what principals could do to nurture the social and emotional needs of teachers.  Six findings were reported: Principals should (1) have a clear understanding of SEL competencies (2) nurture unique opportunities for collaboration (3) nurture a variety of topics on which to collaborate with teachers (4) provide the space and time necessary for teachers to process (5) model work-life balance (6) nurture personal connections between adults within the school.  These findings will help principals develop their leadership skills in supporting teachers in their application of social and emotional learning competencies.</p>

The modern society is characterized by an increased implementation of digitalization. With new technological innovations our social lives are increasingly becoming more digitalized. The past two years the pandemic has set the conditions of human interaction, and therefore the pandemic increased digitalization further. Organizations that had the possibility to reconstruct their work towards more digital approaches did so and therefore the social premises of work changed where individuals are working from home to a greater extent. The aim of this essay is to investigate Swedish women and their perception of telework and the digitalization’s effects on social relations/communication between colleagues, and how the individual experiences telework in regards to the increased pace of life. Finally this essay will explore how individuals deal with work-life balance during telework. Previous research has shown that telework has negative effects on informal communication between colleagues, and that teleworking and its demands on autonomy, flexibility and efficiency leads to increased emotions of stress for the individual. Finally, previous research showed difficulties with the managing of the work-life balance during telework, especially for women. This essay is based on qualitative interviews with six women and has shown that teleworking enables them to become more flexible and effective in their life, which has made it easier for them to manage the work-life balance than before. Another result of the essay is that telework has had a negative effect on informal communication between colleagues. / Det moderna samhället karaktäriseras av ökad implementering av digitalisering. Med nya tekniska innovationer blir våra sociala liv alltmer digitaliserade. De senaste två åren har pandemin satt nya förutsättningar för interaktionen mellan människor, och därmed ökat implementeringen av digitalisering ytterligare. Organisationer som haft möjligheten att omstrukturera sitt arbete mot mer digitala lösningar har gjort det och därmed förändrat de sociala aspekterna av arbete - där individer arbetar alltmer hemifrån. Syftet med studien är att undersöka svenska kvinnor och deras upplevelser av distansarbete och digitaliseringens effekter på sociala relationer/kommunikation mellan kollegor, och om distansarbete och digitaliseringen har lett till ett ökande livstempo. Slutligen intresserar sig denna uppsats för kvinnors gränsdragning mellan arbets- och privatliv under distansarbete. Tidigare forskning visar att distansarbete har negativa effekter på informell kommunikation mellan kollegor, att distansarbetets krav på autonomi, flexibilitet och effektivitet lett till ökad upplevelse av stress. Slutligen visar tidigare forskning problematik med work-life balansen under distansarbete, speciellt för kvinnor. Denna studie, som är baserad på kvalitativa intervjuer med sex kvinnor, har resulterat i att distansarbete tillåter dem att vara mer flexibla och effektiva i sitt arbete, vilket underlättat balansen mellan arbets- och privatlivet och lett till att kvinnorna känner sig mindre stressade än vid arbete på plats. Ett ytterligare resultat av uppsatsen är distansarbetets negativa påverkan på informell kommunikation mellan kollegor.

The purpose of the study was to find out how employees who previously worked at a permanent, office-workplace experienced working from home during the conditions of the pandemic. The study used a qualitative method, with a semi-structured interview, in which the textual material where analyzed through thematic analysis. The data collection where done by interviewing eight full-time civil servants. The inclusion criterias for these were to have worked at home to at least 50% for at least one year.Three themes where identified in the study:• Not being on site with colleagues and perceived workload• Prerequisites for positive experiences of working from home• New forms of meetings and belonging to a contextThe study's conclusions are that despite the fact that there are some negative experiences of working from home, all participants in the study express that they want to continue working from home to a high degree, even after the pandemic. This is because there are predominantly positive experiences linked to working from home. The lack of colleagues on site has partly been compensated by good and appropriate technology, as well as changing working and meeting forms. The feeling of being able to choose how to set up your workday and how to combine it with private life and interaction with family are strongly positive expressions that all participants cite as reasons for wanting to continue working from home. Throughout, participants experience more energy, less stress, more perceived freedom and a sense of effective everyday life, something that is in line with current research and knowledge in the field.
