XIX e início do séc. XX. Esta reflexão embasa, portanto, a poética de construção do espetáculo Foi Tarde, apresentado publicamente em montagem consonante aos princípios estéticos pretendidos / Abstract: This project accomplishes a reflection about the process of creation of the Foi Tarde (Gone Late) play. It investigates some ways trough which is present in procedures of the theatrical scene creation. In the construction of the spectacle, possible relation between the Teatro da Morte (Death Theatre) (1975-2000) of Tadeusz Kantor and the dramaturgic text A Morta (The Dead Woman)(1937) from Oswald de Andrade were searched, mainly about the "presence of the death" as a poetic conduction. A third material to be added to this relation happened to be "the aspect of the exposition to death in a hospital environment". The structuring of the scenes through the image pathways, and the collision of the materials of the creative process were called, in this project, death artifices. In the development, happens the description of the creative process, and are presented the memorial and the script of the spectacle. The work with Tadeusz Kantor and Oswald de Andrade poetics demanded an approach about the relation between the dramatic text and the performing arts scripts, from the clash started in the end of the XIX Century and early XX Century. For it, the rescue of the information about the symbolist movement and about the historical vanguard were made necessary, as precursors of new artistic behaviors and of paradigms of theatric and dramatic constructions for the XX Century and for the present time. At last, it is understood, that Tadeusz Kantor and Oswald de Andrade reveal, in their works, influences and
divergences with the symbolism and with the historical vanguards, in the name of a
poetics characterized by the presence of death and by the autonomy of the theatric
scene through the image pathways. This reflection sustains, hence, the poetic of construction of the spectacle Foi Tarde(Gone Late), presented publicly in an assembling corresponding to the intended aesthetics principles / Mestrado / Mestre em Artes

A 'proper job' : acting as vocation and work in theological perspective with particular reference to Dorothy L. SayersStarks, Gwendolyn Aileen Pacey January 2014 (has links)
In this dissertation, I will be looking at the actor as a craftsperson and artist from both a secular and a theological standpoint in order to determine if the labour of acting can be considered both as work, a “proper job”; and as a calling from God, a vocation. The main questions prompting and shaping this dissertation have arisen out of my own personal experience as an actor struggling both in the performing arts business and with my Christian faith. So, the opening chapter will introduce a personal background approach to the dissertation. It will summarize the experiences that brought me to the place of asking these two questions. It will also serve as an introduction to the life of Dorothy L. Sayers, outlining her own life and demonstrating why she is important to our work as actors. Chapter Two will then cover historical data on Anti-Theatrical Prejudice, laying the foundation for the ongoing discomfort with and misunderstanding regarding the actor's craft. Chapters Three and Four will examine separately our notions of work (Three) and then of vocation (Four) in order to gain a broader view of these two terms. At this point, we will have laid the path to reintroduce Dorothy L. Sayers in Chapters Five, Six and Seven, both as a partner in conversation and as one who held this broader understanding of the terms work and vocation and applied them to creative activities, in particular acting. The final chapter will look at acting as connected to the basic features of life. It, among other things, will revisit some of the anti-theatre argument; pick up on ideas such as the imagination's ability to rehearse life; and will examine some uses of acting as a means of human exploration and social change. Finally, we will explore the artistry, technique, and craft of the actor, to firmly establish the place of acting in society as an important task, a “proper job,” and a Christian vocation.

This work shows dialogs that may exist between drawings and sculptures, works and artists inside their process of creation. It has been built by the look of the artist, the sensible look of someone who works with both languages and reckons upon the experience of art-education in museums. Amilcar de Castro, Ester Grinspum, and Paulo Monteiro are significant artists in my process of apprenticeship, and prominent in the national art scenario. An affective choice is at stake, but it has been countersigned by expositions in which they figure together. Castro used to mould the sculpture from the projective drawing, create the two-dimensional form, cut it, and then reflected upon ways of three-dimensioning it by cutting and folding. A sensible geometry overcame the rigidity of the elementary geometrical forms. The same geometry was reflected in his drawings, which were sometimes made by ruler, sometimes incorporating the strength of the gesture in which the form acquiesced the rhythm of the body. Grinspum, a poetics delineated in the materialization of concepts. Drawing and sculpture give rise to one another through closed forms which engender the privileged place of significations. In both languages, she transits among the organic and the geometric in order to choose the elementary forms, enlaced to a breath line, a softening line. In Monteiro, sculpture and drawing are created by the clash between the gesture and the matter. The organity which permeates the whole work expresses the vital force that is applied to it in the moment of creation. Through the stroke he rearranges masses of an internal place, even the ones of the paper?s ground or the clay?s amorphous. Among the languages we may perceive the passage of characteristics of form, matter, time, and spaciality. Without the preoccupation of a general theory, or even of trying to deplete the possibilities, what we have are the studies of cases inside the work of these artists from the nineties on / Mestrado / Artes / Mestre em Artes

Acting in Shakespeare: Singular sensations in Shakespeare and songLambert, Pamela Faye 01 January 1998 (has links)
The purpose of this project was to determine if it was possible to take Shakespeare's text and, preserving the language, present it in a way which would make it more accessible to a modern audience. It was also important to maintain the appropriate acting style and technique that distinguishes classical acting.

Embracing failure: the life between polite and pushedWalker, Greg Delany 01 May 2018 (has links)
My name is Greg Delany Walker. I’m an MFA candidate in Theatre Arts with a specialization in Acting at the University of Iowa. The following is my thesis that addresses my artistic process as an actor. My main focus in this thesis is to unpack my beliefs about what makes good acting and how I personally achieve that. I detail many schools of thought that pair well together to seek out vulnerability in actors. Vulnerability is my chief struggle as an actor given that I have a tendency to overthink things and rely more on intellect than on passionate expression in my daily life and in my work. That tendency leads me to be polite as an actor, which has gotten in the way of my being able to reach my full potential.
I discovered time and time again how important it is to understand and embody acting techniques so deeply that I can let them go. All the different techniques of analysis, physical and voice work are essential, but they need to transition to being second nature. The techniques outlined in this thesis, learned in my life and through the program at the University of Iowa, have to be so ingrained that I don’t need to think of them in the moment on stage. The key to being present on stage seems so simple in a way, but it has been a great challenge for me to fully let go of control to allow for my potential public failure and humiliation. The times that I’ve embraced failure have been the strongest moments for me as an actor because of the power of risk.
My hope is that by detailing my own process and experiences, with that idea of building technique and releasing into the present moment, that others could be further empowered to do the same in acting or in life.

Evaluation of direct-acting antivirals and antiretroviral therapy for HIV-HCV coinfected patients in the United StatesRivera, Josef Kyle Concepcion 27 February 2021 (has links)
The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-hepatitis C virus (HCV) coinfection is one of the most common coinfections across the globe. There are over 2 million people living with both HIV and HCV worldwide. In the United States, HIV-HCV coinfections present a huge public health issue. There are several risk factors associated with developing this coinfection. One of the greatest risk factors is injection drug use and the practice of sharing needles. With the advent of the opioid epidemic, the number of people contracting both infections have skyrocketed. Despite the large prevalence rate, people with HIV-HCV coinfections can be treated for both infections.
Medical professionals have begun successfully controlling HIV infections through antiretroviral therapies and treatments. These HIV regimens have worked well to increase the cluster of differentiation 4 (CD4) cell counts to manageable levels in many patients. Clinicians have used several different HIV medications that are easily categorized into five separate categories: nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors, non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors, integrase strand transfer inhibitors, protease inhibitors, and C-C chemokine receptor type 5 (CCR5) antagonists. Of these medications, nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors and protease inhibitors have been commonly used with direct-acting antivirals. Like antiretroviral treatments, these direct-acting antivirals (or HCV regimens) have been largely successful in reducing HCV ribonucleic acid (RNA) levels and effectively “curing” the HCV infection.
However, some serious complications occurred in several cases because of drug-drug interactions between antiretroviral and direct-acting antiviral medications. This study was dedicated (1) to exploring the many benefits that these medications have for coinfected patients and (2) to analyzing the significant consequences of these drug-drug interactions. To achieve both goals, a review of various research studies, websites, and textbooks was instigated through PubMed, Google Scholar, and the Boston University library system. The resulting research studies spanned a period from the 1980s to the 2010s. The implications from these sources suggest that more extensive testing of medications, regimens, and drug combinations is needed to allow for a more individualized and simplified HIV-HCV treatment plan for each patient. Additional testing may also lead to more generalizable findings that could be applied to a large swath of the population in the United States.
