Land der dunklen Wälder : Heimat und Erinnerung in Dörte Hansens Altes Land / Land of dark woods : Homeland and memory in Dörte Hansen's This house is mineWickström, Emelie January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine the understanding of homeland, or Heimat, from the perspectives of the four protagonists Hildegard, Vera, Marlene and Anne in Dörte Hansen's novel This house is mine (German title: Altes Land). Their memories and references to the former German province of East Prussia were examined with the help of theoretical considerations on the concept of homeland and memory. The results of the analysis are that all characters have their own perception of the province and that the understanding of homeland changes, based on the protagonists' perception, several important components of the concept of homeland have been worked out. A distinct difference in the opinion of homeland can be seen in the different generations of the family. Factors such as time spent in East Prussia and knowledge thereof are important for the acceptance of the new homeland. More connections to the homeland seem to make it more difficult to feel at home in a new place. This lack of satisfaction with the new life is something that has affected the relationship between the mothers and daughters in the family. The results have also shown that the memories of the homeland above all are characterized by social relationships, but also by natural elements such as woods and lakes.

Cataloguing and editing Coptic Biblical texts in an online database systemFeder, Frank January 2016 (has links)
The Göttingen Virtual Manuscript Room (VMR); The Göttingen Virtual Manuscript Room (VMR) offers both an online based digital repository for Coptic Biblical manuscripts (ideally, high resolution images of every manuscript page, all metadata etc.) and a digital edition of their texts, finally even a critical edition of every biblical book of the Coptic Old Testament based on all available manuscripts. All text data will also be transferred into XML and linguistically annotated. In this way the VMR offers a full physical description of each manuscript and, at the same time, a full edition of its text and language data. Of course, the VMR can be used for manuscripts and texts other than Coptic too.

Some remarks on one old Swahili manuscriptZhukov, Andrei 09 August 2012 (has links)
As is well-known, there are presently several archives of old Swahili manuscripts: in Dar es Salaam, Halle and Hamburg, London etc. These collections and separate manuscripts are being studied from various points of view by both European and African scholars. Beside the vast collection of old Swahili manuscripts kept in SOAS, there is another collection of Swahili works at the British Library in London, which has been considerably expanded recently by acquisitions from Jan Knappert. There, one of the most interesting manuscripts which I have ever seen is kept. I am talking about the manuscripts (OR 4534) received in 1884 by a well-known expert of the Swahili language and literature: W.E. Taylor, who was a missionary in East Africa. In 1891 they have been acquired by the British Museum. It is a roll that is 200 cm long and 16-17 cm wide. Seven sheets, glued together, of a thick paper of special quality (2-3 sheets put together) which even resembles a kind of skin, it is skillfully written on in stable ink.
