In seeking to achieve this goal, it was possible to question about the relations of power, which in this context are related to the way that an alcoholic beverage demand advertising set up on the receiving audience. If dealing with a product that can cause addiction, social problems and be consumed by an underage audience, it is very important to understand what discursive strategies are employed by the brand. For theoretical foundation was made a literature review about advertising & advertising, online social media, consumer, discourse and ideology. The sources were obtained through desk research of qualitative nature, which lasted two years and six months, starting in January 2013 and ending in June 2015. The research corpus was composed of advertisements with more tanned in each semester , distributed through institutional page of Skol beer brand on Facebook, which totaled ten ads compounds for image and text multimodality. For ideology of identification were categorized eight discursive objects that make up three discursive formations, which are: positioning, educating consumers and consumption as entertainment. The analysis method was Discourse Critical Analysis focused on three-dimensional model of discourse proposed by Fairclough (2001), along with multimodal analysis Machin & Mayr (2012). The results suggest that the Skol beer brand, seeks to sustain consumerism speech order, or market ideology.

The roles played by women in late modernity (MOITA LOPES, 2013) encouraged the interest of a great number of national and international researchers. The term emancipating in anyway has been of disagreement and controversy, taking into account the fact that the woman, even though has conquered the labor market, continues to play the roles imposed by society ? of mother, wife and of housewife. At the same time, women's magazines, mainly Claudia magazine, have assumed the purpose to guide women in the performance of their multiple functions: how to educate their children, how to take care of their home, how to please their spouse, and even how to succeed in their professional careers. Circumscribed in this context, this thesis aims at investigating the permanence and the ruptures that are expressed in women's speeches posted in the fan page of Claudia magazine online, testifying how social roles and power relations influence the (trans)formation of female identities. Due to this scope, this research is based on the theoretical framework postulated by the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA); specifically, in the Sociological and Communication of Discourse Approaches (ASCD) ? that is being developed at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, in partnership with the Universidade Federal de Sergipe, coordinated by the PhD Profesor Cleide Emilia Faye Pedrosa (Pedrosa, 2012). This study is also based, during the investigation, on knowledge of Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL); especially regarding to the Appraisal System; in Sociology for Social Change and Cultural Studies. Methodologically, the research is anchored in the qualitative-interpretative paradigm (MOITA LOPES, 2006), circumscribed to Human and Social Sciences, focusing on Applied Linguistics (LA). The data of this research is made up of twenty-four postings, divided into six recurring themes, in the fan page of Claudia Magazine online. The results show that the fan page Claudia online, in fact, discusses the roles that women play in our social context. It is also observed that some of these roles were solidified due to conservative parameters of society, perpetuating itself for many generations and being naturalized to female gender. The finding is, therefore, that there is a permanence of the imposed roles, and that, in late modernity, women have come to play so many other roles, deserving to highlight the fact that nowadays the woman works outside, invests in academic education, visits regularly the gym, drives a car, attends the school meetings of their children, frequents beauty salon, manages their own incomes, delegates household jobs to the housemaid; finally, she carries out many tasks simultaneously, establishing thus the accumulation of positions held by women, which justifies the label attributes of "wonder woman", and leads to disruption in patterns and in the implementation of women's roles.

This work has as object of study a social practice: modern slavery of workers in the sugar cane, and aims to present a reflection on maintenance, eradication or modification of this practice. This reflection bases itself upon the concepts of discourse advocated by Critical Discourse Analysis (Fairclough, 2001, 2003, 2006 and Chouliaraki; Fairclough, 1999) associated with Sociodiscursive Interactionism (Bronckart, 1999, 2006, 2008), and the concept of action figures, proposed by Bulea (2010). We follow the five steps outlined in Chouliaraki and Fairclough (1999): a) emphasis on a social problem, b) introduction and discussion of obstacles to tackle the problem, c) considerations concern the problem in practice d) identifying possible ways to past the obstacles, and e) reflection about the analyst role within the problem. In order to achieve step (b) in its discourse materiality axis, it has been identified the thematic content, discourse types, enunciative mechanisms and action figures of testimonials of sugar cane workers and other subjects involved with the problem in the documentaries Baga?o (2006, and Tabuleiro de Cana, Xadrez de Cativeiro (2006). These documentaries bring to the screen a little of sugar cane workers reality within an overexploitation, human rights disrespects and forced work. The analysis of textual/discursive aspects of testimonials has shown the ways in which the (de)construction of the representation of sugar cane action allows understanding of how the problem emerges and how it is rooted in the organization of social life. The general result of this reflection point to the internalization of social practices deep-rooted in evaluations of the sugar cane worker subjective world and from social world values, opinions and rules. The results also show that, in their discourse, workers assume their slavery sometimes consciously, sometimes unconsciously, but only suggest a reaction against the oppression imposed on them because they have internalized and naturalized their enslavement.

Ribas, Rodrigo Slama 22 January 2014 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 RodrigoSR_DISSERT.pdf: 1151164 bytes, checksum: 1af4b5fa820e612af2aadc1cfd8c0592 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014-01-22 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Cient?fico e Tecnol?gico / Brazilian constitution says that all Brazilians have basic survival rights such as education, sanitation and food, but these basic rights are luxury for some. So, thinking about this, this paper aims to develop a critical analysis about the (re)production of the discourse on poverty, and consequently on the poor, given by the federal government, through the official website of the program Brazil Without Poverty (Brasil Sem Pobreza), the media, represented by Veja magazine, and by those who affirm to be representatives of the poor; like the Single Central Slums (Central ?nica das Favelas CUFA). Our aim is to present a critical reflection on the discourses about the poverty in the voices of the government, Veja magazine (media representative) and CUFA (poor representative) and their contribution to the development of the meanings of the theme in Brazilian society. In order to do so, we have identified categories based upon Bajoit (2006a) to classify which the author calls faces of poverty . We have used the Sociological and Communicational Discourse Approach (ASCD) as developed by Pedrosa (2012a, 2012b, 2012c), within the Critical Discourse Analysis as theoretical apparatus, and also the studies in which the ASCD is built upon such as Sociology for Social Change (BAJOIT, 2006), the Cultural Studies (HALL, 2005), and the Functional Systemic Linguistic, especially the Evaluating System (MARTHIN & WHITE, 2005, VIAN JR et al, 2011). Thus, the discourse on poverty or on fighting poverty, extracted from news, chronicles and other genres of the mentioned vehicles, are taken as object of study to understand identities that are created and renewed on poverty and on the Brazilian poor, as their dependence on the government and civil society, their exploitation by the economy, and even the media that sometimes features them as delinquent / A nossa Constitui??o prega que todo brasileiro possui direitos b?sicos ? sua sobreviv?ncia, como educa??o, saneamento b?sico e comida, no entanto, este direito ? um luxo para alguns.

The scientific debate concerning the population phenomenon on the streets has permeated the research agendas of some areas of human knowledge, especially the study of arenas of human and social sciences. Some national researches show that the phenomenon is complex, mixed by social, psychological, objective and subjective processes ( ROSA , 2005) and comprises a synthesis of multiple determinations inherent in capitalist society (SILVA, 2009). Therefore, this thesis aims to present a critical- discursive analysis of individual identity construction work of people who have lived or are living on the streets in the city of Natal / RN, based on their own life stories, set by narratives of "I " . To build the analysis, we focus on three specific objectives: a) to discuss the representative socialization networks of individual identity construction work; b ) to characterize the perceptions of each individual concerning the population phenomenon on the streets, and c ) To examine the identification and characterization that each individual makes of his relations with the population phenomenon on the streets. In order to achieve our goals, we followed the theoretical postulates of Critical Discourse Analysis - ACD (Fairclough, 2001, 2006), specifically in its Sociological and Communicational Approach to Speech - ASCD (PEDROSA, 2014, 2015), which covers the sociology for Social Change (BAJOIT , 2006, 2008 , 2013) and Systemic Functional Linguistics, the latter, considering the Transitive system (HALLIDAY , 1985 , 1994; Halliday and Mathiessen , 2004 and CUNHA and SOUZA, 2011). Methodologically, it is a qualitative research (descriptive and interpretative), anchored on Applied Linguistics (CELANI, 1992; SIGNORINI and Cavalcanti, 1998; SIGNORINI 1998; MOITA LOPES, 1990 , 1996, 1998 , 2006 and 2013 ). The corpus is based on five life stories which were recorded during the Language and Identity Workshop : " Letters on the streets " , applied during the II Population Potiguar Seminar on the homeless and through the access to the Hidden Natal virtual community. In light of a context of social apartheid, set up by experienced hardships and jettisoning of human rights, the results point out that the individual identity construction of people who have lived or are on the streets in Natal / RN comprises a work of the individual as the subject himself in light of the construction of identity resistance, and design policy. These identities reveal an ontological will directed to the emancipation of the subjects on the streets, a politically conscious subject of rights and duties that works towards one's citizen empowerment, demanding effective promotion of public policies aimed at their social reintegration. Once the individual identities are constructed by ideological positions that underpin voices counterhegemonic and contribute to overcoming social inequalities, it appears that the subject, to build their identities, can promote social and cultural change, once delegitimizes the negative social stigmas associated with the homeless in Natal/RN.

In this sense, this research study, which is based on the theoretical tenets of the Critical Discourse Analysis in its interdisciplinary branch (FAIRCLOUGH, 2006; ORMUNDO, 2010; PEDROSA, 2010; RAMALHO E RESENDE, 2011), aims at discussing how the sociocultural changes in the context of private education interact with the market proposal of neoliberal and economical policies. The research was methodologically based on the qualitative approach (CHIZZOTTI, 1991; BOGDAN e BIKLEN, 1994; MINAYO, 1994), especially on the principles of contemporary Applied Linguistics (SIGNORINI, 1998; MOITA-LOPES, 2006; MENEZES, SILVA, GOMES, 2009). Data were gathered from advertisements used in campaigns by private educational institutions and agencies in Natal/RN; the advertisements were collected in primary and secondary levels and in language courses from October to December, 2010. The data analysis indicate that education, in the context of globalization and late modernity, has become a market agency and that the new face of the educational discourse of private institutions is interwoven with a social representation of education as a site of struggle and hegemonic dispute. Therefore, the research leads us to infer that, as the educational public policies based on hegemonic economy and on ideological assumptions of international agents (Global Bank, FMI, etc.) have become widespread, education has become an arena of dispute and a powerful economic product to the market of cultural and commercial industry, thus emphasizing a society in which everything is economically based / No contexto atual da modernidade tardia, as mudan?as socioculturais instauram novas pr?ticas sociais que corroboram mudan?as discursivas em movimentos dial?ticos, contribuindo para que a ordem de discursos educacionais seja cada vez mais contaminada pelos discursos e valores t?picos de mercado revestidos por ideologias, lutas hegem?nicas e rela??es de poder.

The general goal of this research is t reflect upon the speech on social responsibility and the rethoric of selfpromotion of the Universal Church through the role of social actors in the making of his her identities, materialized in the newspaper Folha Universal. In order to achieve that, we have conjugated, in this research, social and discursive analysis. On the linguistic-discursive approach, the research is based on the Critical Analysis of Discourse (ACD), specially in Fairclough (2001, 2003, 2006), a proposal that provides theoretical-methodological tools to investigate the language beyond the linguistic structures , that is, the discourse, social practices in which it occurs and more ample structures. Theoretical assumptions were also used of Sistemico-Functional Linguistics(LSF), matching with categories of the Transitivity System of Halliday (1994, 2004), of the forms of representation of social actors in the socioeconomic perspective by Van Leeuwen (1997, 2008) and of the Appraisal system by Martin and White (2005). As we develop the argumentation on thesobre social role of religion in this thesis, we make use of the authors such as Freston (1994), Oro (1997, 2003), Campos (1996, 1999), Mariano (1999), Meneses (2008), among several ones. We have also used a series of concepts and categories coming from the field of communication and marketing on the business social responsability and social marketing . In this area, we take as references the contributions of Bueno (2003), Foss? and Sartoretto (2003) and Zenone (2006). The corpus of the work is framed by news taken at the newspaper Folha Universal, in which are given the social responsibility actions of the church . The timeframe used was on the editions of 2010 thru 2012. Results found at he analysis of the News lead to semantic features of Assessment of Affection, Judgment and Appreciation, many times followed by Gradation, and the Attribution, one of the subsystems of the Attachment, are evidence of positive assessments for the Universal Church and its agents and make up rethorical elements which provide structure for the discourse of the Universal Church at the newspaper Folha Universal consisted of its image (style) of social responsibility . Results show that the most frequente social actors of the discourse are, on one hand, the Universal Church itself and its volunteers, famous (actors, actresses, presenters), politicians and authorities, on the other hand, the population which was helped by the Church social projects . The first group seems to be Always activated, however the second one, most of the time rather passive. These are also represented by assimilation in most of the occurrences, however the other ones by individualization and nomination entitled by honorification, except for the volunteers that are represented either as an individual, or as a group / Situada na Lingu?stica Aplicada (PENNYCOOK, 1998; MOITA LOPES, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009), esta tese, que se inscreve em uma abordagem qualitativo-interpretativista de perspectiva analista critico, se debru?a sobre o discurso da responsabilidade social e a forma como este ? empregado na busca por legitima??o e prest?gio dentro do campo religioso neopentecostal brasileiro, mais especificamente da Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus.

The overall objective of the research was to analyze the discourses of Elementary School teachers in the state of Sergipe, by means of the discursive representations of the social actors, the processes of subjectivity and their fragmented identities in the context of standardized evaluations before the requirements of globalized pedagogical practices, based on the result-based management. The critical analysis of such discourses was motivated by the rapid pace with which the demands of innovation become part of the classroom, aiming at reaching the target in what concerns the indexes of the rankings which characterize the globalized discourse of the national education management, like Ideb (Basic Education Development Index), which makes teachers change their discourses, become silent or keep resistant. The work was initially endorsed by the theoretical lines of the Critical Discourse Analysis (FAIRCLOUGH, 2001, 2006), and poses a proposal for such purpose: the ASCD Discourse Sociological and Communicative Approach (PEDROSA, 2012, 2013). This is an interpretative-qualitative study of the Critical Discourse Analysis (FAIRCLOUGH, 2001, 2003; RAMALHO ; RESENDE, 2011) and to carry it out, semi-structured interviews were used as instruments of data generation (BAUER; GASKELL, 2011; GILL, 2011). Its corpus is composed of thirteen accounts of teachers from the Elementary school who teach Portuguese and work in the fifteen schools which were chosen to be the universe of the research at the Regional Board of Education (02) in the state of Sergipe. Such narratives are related to their impressions, expectations and actions which favor the management of results to which they have to submit themselves. The analytical overview of sociological and discursive line comes from the pan-semiotic categories (Inclusion and Exclusion) which appear in the theory of Representation of Social Actors (VAN LEEUWEN, 1997, 2008). To present the processes of subjectivity of these teachers, this work is based on the socio-analytical proposal of the classification of the subjects, which stems from the individual s work in the Gest?o Relacional de Si , which comes from the Applied Sociology (towards) Social Change (BAJOIT, 2006, 2009). The discursive analyses were guided word for word, in their majority, by having the Systemic Functional Grammar as their theoretical basis, specifically by the processes of the Transitivity System postulated by Halliday, (1985); Halliday and Mathiessen, (2004); Eggins (2004); Cunha and Souza (2011). The work makes the field of Cultural Studies emerge towards the dialogue and the presentation of the fragmented identities of the teachers in the context of late modernity (GIDDENS, 2002; HALL, 2011). The thesis promoted a reflection over the teacher s condition, who is immerse in this context of knowledge construction of the present Brazilian educational system, the standardized evaluations, the indexes of development, the targets and the rankings. The considerations and outcomes of such a research dealt with the teachers emerging social practices and the need of planned initial and continuing teacher education towards the new moment which is foreseeable / Situada nos estudos de Lingu?stica Aplicada, esta tese se apresenta em uma perspectiva interdisciplinar (An?lise Cr?tica do Discurso, Sociologia para Mudan?a Social, Estudos Culturais e Lingu?stica Sist?mico-Funcional).

The present study analyses the way in which the newspaper Tribuna do Norteaccompanied the changes in the energy matrix of Rio Grande do Norte, following the implementation of the first wind farm in the state, in January 2004. For this, the texts published about the theme between January 2003 and January 2004 are analysed, using the Critical Discourse Analysis, according to Norman Fairclough's point of view, as a methodological tool for text analysis and Roland Barthes's semiotics for image analysis. According to the journalistic criteria of noticiability and agenda, it is understood that the period studied was favorable to the dissemination of the wind issue in the media. The study shows that the subject was underutilized and that the publications prioritised economic debates before the environmental agenda. It is evaluated that the absences and the media silences were not casual, but products of political and economic interests.
