Untersuchungen zur Bestimmung der Übergreifungslängen textiler Bewehrungen aus Carbon in Textilbeton (TRC)

Lorenz, Enrico, Ortlepp, Regine January 2011 (has links)
A safe introduction and transmission of the acting forces is crucial for the functioning of composite materials. Because of the very high yarn tensile strengths of textile reinforcements made of carbon, the manufacturing of very effective TRC strengthening layers is possible. In TRC members, overlap joints within the textile layers usually cannot be avoided. This contribution deals with the experimental and analytical determination of the lap lengths of textile fabrics within a textile reinforced concrete strengthening layer.

Verbundversagensmechanismen im Verankerungsbereich von textilbewehrten Feinbetonverstärkungsschichten

Ortlepp, Regine, Brückner, Anett, Lorenz, Enrico 03 June 2009 (has links)

EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF REPAIR TECHNIQUES FOR DETERIORATED END REGIONS OF PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BRIDGE GIRDERS

William Rich (10713612) 06 May 2021 (has links)

Due to harsh environmental conditions, the deterioration of prestressed concrete bridge girders is a commonly observed phenomenon in Indiana and much of the Midwest. Concordantly, one widely observed damage scenario is deteriorated end regions of prestressed concrete girders. Damaged or failed expansion joints expose prestressed concrete girder end regions to chloride-laden water, resulting in a corrosive environment in which reinforcement section loss and concrete spalling can occur. For bridges experiencing this type of deterioration, action is needed to ensure the structure remains safe and serviceable. As such, an experimental program was developed to investigate the effectiveness of three repair techniques in restoring the structural behavior of prestressed concrete bridge girders with end region deterioration. The three examined repair techniques are (i) an externally bonded fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) system, (ii) a near-surface-mounted (NSM) FRP system, and (iii) a concrete supplemental diaphragm. Additionally, installation procedures for the three end region repair techniques were developed. Results, conclusions, and recommendations from the experimental program are presented to help advise best practices for implementing end region repair techniques in the field.

The Design, Construction, and Testing of Scaled Post-Tensioned Concrete Bridge Girders with Bonded and Unbonded Tendons

David S Derks (12190748) 18 April 2022 (has links)

If designed and constructed properly, post-tensioned construction can provide improved durability and offers the ability to construct longer span bridges and curved girders. Furthermore, this method of construction has become economically competitive with traditional, pretensioned concrete and steel plate girder bridges. A critical issue, however, has been corrosion of the steel strand. While grouting has been the primary corrosion protection method for the strand, experience has shown that grouting presents its own problems and limitations that compromised the durability and service-life of bridges. As a result, unbonded post-tensioning has gained interest as it eliminates issues with grouting and allows for inspection as well as future strand replacement. The behavior and strength of structures constructed with unbonded post-tensioning, however, is not well understood, especially shear strength. Therefore, the objective of this research investigation is to evaluate the structural performance of prestressed girders containing unbonded tendons with a primary focus on shear strength. The scope of this phase of the research was to develop the means and methods to construct and test girder specimens with multiple design criteria and allow evaluation of multiple test variables. The research developed the materials and procedures to enable the large scale testing program to be developed. Finally, the procedures developed were verified through the construction of the initial set of test specimens and testing of the first shear specimen.

Effect of thread design of orthodontic miniscrew implants on stress generation using photoelastic analysis

Busciglio, Dana 01 January 2011 (has links)
A thesis submitted to the College of Dental Medicine of Nova Southeastern University of the degree of Master of Science in Dentistry. Objectives. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of pitch and thread depth of orthodontic miniscrew implants(MSI's) on stress generation. Methods. Quasi-three dimensional photoelastic models were created with MSI's embedded and then loaded with 60 and 104 grams respectively and evaluated under a full field reflection polariscope. The control MSI's (1.0mm pitch / 0.25mm thread depth) were compared to 3 experimental groups (n=10) which varied with only one design characteristic: Group 1 (0.75mm pitch), Group 2 (1.25mm pitch) and Group 3 (0.40 thread depth). The maximum shear stress (τmax) was calculated at 5 predetermined and standardized points. A two-way ANOVA was conducted to compare the means of τmax followed by a Tukey's post hoc (p<0.05). Results. No statistical differences were found for τmax between the control group and each of the 3 experimental groups except at point 4. At point 4, the control group was higher by an average of 5.05 and 7.1 MPa for the 60 and 104 gram loads respectively (p<0.05). No statistically significant differences were found for points 1, 2, and 5 for the 60 gram load and for points 1, 2, 3, and 5 for the 104 gram load. The mean τ max from highest to lowest was located at points 5<1< 2<4 <3 in both the 60 and 104 load steps. The variability in τmax at point 4 may have been due to its proximity to the neutral zone of the present loading conditions. Conclusions. As the orthodontic load was increased, maximum shear stress also increased for each of the four MSI designs used in this study. The results of this study suggest that, within limits, variation of pitch and thread depth of MSI's may not have a significant influence on the stress generation when loaded for orthodontic purposes. Photoelastic analysis has shown to be a viable option to evaluate mechanical properties of MSI'S.
