Avaliação da resistência à tração, em diferentes períodos de cicatrização, de mini-parafusos utilizados como ancoragem temporária em ortodontia: estudo em cães da raça Beagle / Pull-out strength of unloaded orthodontic mini-screws at different healing periods. In vivo study in Beagle dogsVilmar Antonio Ferrazzo 24 October 2008 (has links)
With the purpose of evaluating the influence of bone healing process on the biomechanical performance of mini-screws used as anchorage in orthodontics, 60 self-tapping (Tomas® - Dentaurum / Germany) mini-screws were inserted (1.6 x 6 mm) in the maxilla and in the mandible of 5 adult Beagle dogs. Upper and lower premolars (P1, P2, P3, P4) were extracted three months before the vertical insertion of mini-screws. The dogs were sacrified on days 0, 2, 7, 15 and 30 after the insertion of mini-screws. The jaws were dissected and the bone blocks, containing the miniscrews, were prepared to the axial pull-out strength in the Universal Testing Machine EMIC ® 2000, using a device developed specifically for this study. The values and graphics for the mechanical performance were immediately generated and recorded by the acquisition program. The clinical success rate of mini-screws was 100%. The possible differences between the healing periods were analyzed by Bonferroni´s multiple test comparisons and variance analysis (ANOVA). After the dissection of the bone segments, it was found that in some cases, the mini-screw thread was not fully inserted into the bone, reason why the pull-out strength (average of the maxilla: 141.76 ± 92.82 Ncm to 237.02 ± 78.34 Ncm and average in the mandible of 156.86 ± 75.55 Ncm to 328.76 ± 82.17 Ncm) was evaluated in relation to the real area of insertion (maxilla: 24.01 ± 6.09 mm2 and mandible: 22.88 ± 5.31 mm2). Mean value/mm2 were significantly higher in the mandible (11.60 ± 5.22 Ncm/mm2) than the maxilla (8.22 ± 5.04 Ncm/mm2). There was no statistically significant difference (p = 0126) between pull-out strength (Ncm), surface inserted (mm2) and the observed healing periods. Based on these results it can be concluded that mini-screws evaluated in this study demonstrated an excellent biomechanical behavior in all different periods of healing, showing more resistance to traction in the mandibular bone.

A arqueologia em sítios submersos: estudo do sítio depositário da enseada da praia do Farol da ilha do Bom Abrigo - SP / The Archaeology in the underwater site: Study of the Depository Site of the Cove of the Lighthouse Beach in Bom Abrigo Island-SPRicardo dos Santos Guimarães 04 February 2010 (has links)
Less studied than the shipwreck sites, however not less important, the depository sites are remarkable sources of archaeological documentation. The Cove of the Lighthouse Beach in Bom Abrigo Island, located on the south coast of São Paulo state, is a excellent natural anchorage, a depository site par excellent, formed from the social use of the small geographical space. This process of \"use-occupation\", of long duration, has been occurring since the beginning of 16 th century and plays the main responsible of formation of the archaeology submerged record. Adopting method of research with minimally intrusive techniques, which demonstrated effective result, was able to search, to register, and to identify various sunk artifacts, loss or discarded, in the bottom of the cove. From the findings, inferences could then be made regarding the relationship between man and this not built maritime anchorage, but fully inserted in the history of navigation made along of the south coast of São Paulo.

Avaliação cefalométrica comparativa do tratamento da má oclusão de Classe II com o distalizador first class em ancoragem convencional e esquelética e aparelho extrabucal cervical seguidos de aparelho fixo / Comparative cephalometric evaluation of Class II malocclusion treatment with First Class distalizer in conventional and skeletal anchorage and cervical headgear followed by fixed orthodontic applianceRoberto Henrique da Costa Grec 06 April 2015 (has links)
The aim of this prospective study was to compare the dental, skeletal and soft tissue changes in youngsters with Class II malocclusion untreated and treated with First Class distalizer in conventional or skeletal achorage or with cervical headgear followed by fixed orthodontic appliances. The sample consisted of 44 patients with Class II malocclusion and divided into four groups of 11: patients treated with First Class distalizer with conventional anchorage (Nance button)(G1), treated with First Class distalizer with skeletal anchorage supported in two palatal mini-implants (G2), treated with cervical headgear (G3) and follow-up group with untreated patients (G0). Lateral cephalometrics radiographs were taken before treatment and after treatment in order to cephalometric analysis and evaluate the dental, skeletal and soft tissue changes and to compare with follow-up group (G0). Statistical analysis was performed by dependent t test to verify the changes occurred in the same group and by one-way ANOVA and Tukey test to verify the changes occurred between the groups. It was observed restriction and redirection of maxillary growth after treatment in G1 and G3. Mandibular skeletal effects were significant in G0. The values of skeletal maxilomandibular relationship decreased significantly in G1 and G3 with significant decrease of measurements that evaluated soft facial profile. All measurements of vertical component increased in G3. Maxillary first molars were distal tipping in G2 and lower first molars were mesial tipping in G3. The four groups showed extrusion in the upper and lower teeth. The three experimental groups showed significant decreased in the molar relationship, overjet and overbite. It concluded that experimental groups corrected the Class II malocclusion efficiently, cervical headgear showed skeletal and dental effects and the groups with distalizers showed only dental effects. The mean treatment period was significant lower with cervical headgear.

Osseointegration of Temporary Anchorage Devices Using Recombinant Human Bone Morphogenetic Protein-2Cruz, Erin E 01 May 2010 (has links) (PDF)
Over the past 5 years, the use of titanium implants as temporary anchorage devices (TADs) has become an important tool in clinical orthodontic practices. The use of TADs have provided orthodontists a way of moving teeth against fixed objects rather than against the surrounding teeth, which tend to counteract desired motion. At present, viable attachment of TADs involves direct insertion through gingival tissue and piercing of the bone. Surface modifications such as sandblasted and acid-etched treatment or bone morphogenetic protein surface treatment, however, can be applied to the TADs to promote enhanced osseointegration, thereby allowing the TADs to serve as stable anchors while avoiding bone puncture. In this study, a comparison was made between sandblasted/acid-etched TADs and sandblasted/acid-etched/recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) treated TADs to determine whether rhBMP-2 promotes enhanced osseointegration. A total of 10 rats (4 controls and 6 treated with rhBMP-2) were used in the study, with 1 TAD placed on the skull of each rat. At the end of 6 weeks, the animals were euthanized by carbon dioxide asphyxiation, and bone blocks, each containing a TAD, were prepared for histological examination and biomechanical characterization. The results of this study showed that TADs treated with rhBMP-2 had greater bone formation at the bone-implant interface and an increase in total implant stability.

By the means of Paul Ricœur’s theory on narrative identity, the following thesis will examine the singular conceptions of identity in the works Cosmos and Les envoutés (W. Gombrowicz) as well as To the Lighthouse and The Waves by V. Woolf. On one hand, we will analyze the obsessive serialization behavior that Witold manifests in Cosmos followed by a case of complete loss of one’s self towards otherness. Furthermore, we will scrutinize the family turmoil between James Ramsay (To the Lighthouse) and his family members. Additionally, we will also inspect the adherence and anchoring of three protagonists towards the development of a unique perception of their environment (The Waves). Ultimately, the protagonists recognize that one’s self is intrically linked to individual stories and events that craft their own sense of being.

The impact of root loss on tree anchorage on Eugenia grandis Wight and Pinus pinaster Ait and the ability of three different trees species (Fagus sylvatica L, Abies alba Mill and Picea abies L) to resist uprooting or breakage due to rockfall on steep slopes were investigated using tree winching and trenching tests and results correlated to root system architecture. No differences were found between TMcrit and trenching distance in E. grandis trees. The results showed that in terms of Tree Anchorage Rotational Stiffness (TARS) and TMcrit, mechanical stability was not significantly affected by trenching on sandy clay soil, due to rooting depth of the sinkers which occurred close to the trunk and root plate size which provide greater stiffness thus play a major component of anchorage in E. grandis. However, in P. pinaster, mechanical stability was significantly affected by trenching, possibly due to severing of lateral roots greatly altered the size of the root plate and subsequently root CSA of major lateral roots and number of sinkers, which are crucial components in anchorage of mature P. pinaster trees grown on sandy podzol soil. For protection forest species grown on steep slopes, the results showed that tree species with deep, highly branched root systems with a higher proportion of oblique roots (e.g. European beech and Silver fir) will be better anchored and provide better protective function against rockfall as compared to Norway spruce that possessed a superficial plate-like root system. The knowledge gained from this study can be utilized in selection and production of trees which are resistant to both man made or natural hazards.

Avaliação da presença de periodontopatógenos na superfície de miniparafusos ortodônticos por meio microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV) e da técnica de reação em cadeia da polimerase (PCR) / Evaluation of periodontopathogen presence on orthodontic mini-screw surfaces by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR)Nacao, Mônica 27 March 2009 (has links)
Self-tapping titanium alloy orthodontic mini-screws have been used as bony anchorage during orthodontic tooth movement. Studies have shown a higher failure rate of mini-screw than dental implants, and the presence of periodontopathogens has been mentioned in the literature as a possible reason for peri-implantitis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the presence of periodontopathogens on the mini-screw surface by SEM and to identify the bacteria, Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (Aa), Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg) and Prevotella intermedia (Pi), by DNA amplification using PCR. Mini-screws of the experimental and control groups were collected from both male and female patients, with good oral health and absence of periodontal disease, non-smoker, and non-diabetic. The results, when analyzed by SEM, showed the adhesion of bacilli and inflammatory cells to the surface of the mini-screws in the experimental group and the adhesion of blood clots and fibril array in the control group. DNA amplification revealed Pi in all cases of both groups analyzed. Aa presence was observed in 31.25% of the control group against 13.3% in the experimental group and Pg presence in 37.4% of the control group against 33.33% in the experimental group. Fishers exact test did not show significant association between both presence and absence of Aa (P = 0.39) and Pg (P = 0.70) and the analyzed groups. Furthermore, odds ratio (OR) revealed no significant association of Aa (OR = 0.34; 95% CI: 0.05-2.10) and Pg (OR = 0.61; 95% CI: 0.13- 2.79) with peri-implantitis.
