Previous issue date: 2015-08-31 / From the cultural history perspective and through the comparative method this paper proposes that during visitations by the hole court in Bahia, Pernanbuco, Paraiba and Itamaracá states between the end of the sixteenth and early seventeenth century. “The representatives of faith” developed several strategies of advertisements that supported themselves in several symbolics mechanisms of visual or oral character to highlight a certain drama that has been able to change the social coexistence in colonial territories that was investigated in order to establish a control on religious beliefs and the settlers` moral behavior and, this way, to enable the confrontation of “offenders” behaviors that threatened the expected homogenization of the christianity dreamt by all. In this context of strong religious feelings, the edicts, the monitorio, the preparation of deocesan and inquisitorial visits, the cerimonies, the processions, the sermans of faith, the encouragement to the complaint and confession, the symbolic contained during public presentations, the exhibition of the sabenitos that was processed at the churches, the retualistic procedural and all kind of rituals have been gradually formed into an advertising instrument that by its turn has motivated the speech of “ forgiveness” and “mercy” spreaded by those who represented themselves as “heroes of christianity” the only ones who could cut with their “justice sword” the evil of heterodoxies and apply it according to 1552 and 1613 regulations, the established standards and duties, by transforming this way, the moment of their arrival and remaining in this places in a perfomance of faith that was able to give logical sense to the implemantation and relevance to their “discretionary justice” responsible for directing the sociability of relationships that should be ruled according to the dominant discourse by the “combat armed of faith” and “courage” in order to guarantee “ life after death” and the transcendental “reconnect” / Na perspectiva da História Cultural e através de estudo comparativo, esta dissertação propõe que durante as visitações executadas pelo Tribunal do Santo Ofício aos espaços da Bahia, Pernambuco, Paraíba e Itamaracá, entre o término do século XVI e início do XVII, os representantes da fé fomentaram diversas estratégias de propagandas que se apoiaram em diversos mecanismos simbólicos de caráter visual ou oral para pôr em destaque uma certa dramaturgia, que foi capaz de modificar o convívio social nos territórios coloniais os quais foram investigados para tentar se estabelecer nos mesmos uma vigilância sobre as crenças religiosas e as condutas morais dos colonos e, dessa maneira, possibilitar o enfrentamento dos comportamentos transgressores que ameaçavam à tão sonhada homogeneização da cristandade.

Estudo exploratório de mecanismos de regulação sanitária de produtos cosméticos de base nanotecnológica no Brasil / Exploratory study of the sanitary regulatory mechanisms of nanocosmetic products in BrazilFronza, Tassiana January 2006 (has links)
There are a number of nanocosmetic products in the domestic market today, including sunblock, products for prevention against skin aging, or even products which circulate in a wide range components. Running counter to major industrial interests, many non-governmental organizations have expressed their concern regarding the uncertainties of the impact new nanomaterials may have on human health as well as the possible applications and social implications that this new technology may bring. Moreover, the adaptation of current governmental regulations has widely come under scrutiny regarding products stemming from nanotechnology. In fact, worldwide, there are no specific requirements to register nanotechological cosmetic products, as each is generally analyzed on a case by case basis. Within this context, this study traced the profile of the industrial production of nanotechnological cosmetic products in Brazil, with the aim of assessing the availability of these products in the domestic market and their safe usage based on the analysis of the raw materials which make up the products, the determining of particle diameter, and the data available in the literature. In the final stage, some parameters for the regulation of nanotechnological cosmetic products in Brazil are proposed, especially as regards the classification and labeling of products.

Los folletos como agentes del debate político: ciudad de México, 1821-1855 / Los folletos como agentes del debate político: ciudad de México, 1821-1855Soberón Mora, Arturo 12 April 2018 (has links)
Folletos and other kinds of printed matter, such as loose sheets or volantes, played a leading role in the emerging political struggles of the nineteenth century. In recent years, interest in studying print culture of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century has motivated numerous essays in Latin American fields on different aspects of the subject. This article seeks to highlight the transformation which folletos and their contents experienced in the late colonial period and, consequently, the prominent role that these documents had in the intense debate that characterized the political contests of the early decades of independent Mexico.

An Attributional Explanation of Consumers' Responses to Government Regulations and Corporate Social Responsibility, with Implications for Childhood ObesityJanuary 2013 (has links)
abstract: There have been multiple calls for research on consumers' responses to social issues, regulatory changes, and corporate behavior. Thus, this dissertation proposes and tests a conceptual framework of parents' responses to government regulations and corporate social responsibility (CSR) that address juvenile obesity. This research builds on Attribution Theory to examine the impact of government regulations and CSR on consumers' attitudes and their subsequent behavior. Three pilot studies and three main experiments were conducted; a between-subjects and randomized experimental design being used to capture the effects of regulations and corporate actions on product satisfaction, company evaluations, and behavioral intentions, while examining the mediating role of attributions of responsibility for a negative product outcome. This research has implications for policy makers and marketing practitioners and scholars. This is the first study to offer a new perspective, based on attributions of blame, to explain the mechanism that drives consumers' responses to government regulations. Considering numerous calls for government actions that address childhood obesity, it is important to understand how and why consumers respond to such regulations. The results illustrated that certain policies may have unintended consequences due to unexpected attributions of blame for unhealthy products. Only recently have researchers tried to address the psychological mechanism through which CSR has an impact on consumers' attitudes and behavior. To date, few studies have investigated attributions as a mediating variable in the transfer of CSR associations on consumer responses. Nonetheless, this is the first study that concentrates on attributions of responsibility, per se, to explain the impact of CSR on company evaluations. This dissertation extends previous research, where locus, stability, and controllability mediated the relationship between CSR and attributions of blame; the degree of blame being consequential to brand evaluations. The current results suggest that attributions of responsibility, per se, mediate the impact of CSR on company evaluations. Additionally, attributions of blame are measured as the degree to which consumers take personal responsibility for a negative product outcome. This highlights a new role of the CSR construct, as a moderator of consumers' self-serving bias, a fundamental psychological response that has been neglected in the marketing literature. / Dissertation/Thesis / Ph.D. Business Administration 2013

Comparison of Commercial Aircraft Fuel Requirements in Regards to FAR, Flight Profile Simulation, and Flight Operational TechniquesJanuary 2014 (has links)
abstract: There are significant fuel consumption consequences for non-optimal flight operations. This study is intended to analyze and highlight areas of interest that affect fuel consumption in typical flight operations. By gathering information from actual flight operators (pilots, dispatch, performance engineers, and air traffic controllers), real performance issues can be addressed and analyzed. A series of interviews were performed with various individuals in the industry and organizations. The wide range of insight directed this study to focus on FAA regulations, airline policy, the ATC system, weather, and flight planning. The goal is to highlight where operational performance differs from design intent in order to better connect optimization with actual flight operations. After further investigation and consensus from the experienced participants, the FAA regulations do not need any serious attention until newer technologies and capabilities are implemented. The ATC system is severely out of date and is one of the largest limiting factors in current flight operations. Although participants are pessimistic about its timely implementation, the FAA's NextGen program for a future National Airspace System should help improve the efficiency of flight operations. This includes situational awareness, weather monitoring, communication, information management, optimized routing, and cleaner flight profiles like Required Navigation Performance (RNP) and Continuous Descent Approach (CDA). Working off the interview results, trade-studies were performed using an in-house flight profile simulation of a Boeing 737-300, integrating NASA legacy codes EDET and NPSS with a custom written mission performance and point-performance "Skymap" calculator. From these trade-studies, it was found that certain flight conditions affect flight operations more than others. With weather, traffic, and unforeseeable risks, flight planning is still limited by its high level of precaution. From this study, it is recommended that air carriers increase focus on defining policies like load scheduling, CG management, reduction in zero fuel weight, inclusion of performance measurement systems, and adapting to the regulations to best optimize the spirit of the requirement.. As well, air carriers should create a larger drive to implement the FAA's NextGen system and move the industry into the future. / Dissertation/Thesis / M.S. Aerospace Engineering 2014

Could you hand me my keys? Can you give me my keys? : Differences between men and women in expressing politenessAndréasson, Louise January 2009 (has links)
This essay investigates the relationship between gender and politeness, specifically in the areaof requests. The reason why this topic was chosen is that it is claimed that men and womencommunicate differently and express requests differently. The aim is to identify and clarifythe different manners men and women express politeness with regard to the phrases Canyou…? and Could you…?. A total of 200 occurrences of Can you…? and Could you…? wereselected and analyzed from the Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA). The working hypothesis was that, in accordance with their gender “regulations”,women use Could you much more than men and therefore act more polite. The findings, however, are contradictory and indicate that this was not the case. Men tend to use the morepolite form Could you, and women tend to use the less polite form Can you. Moreover, requests are in some contexts expressed similarly by men and women. Therefore, the generalclaim about women being more polite in their language may not be correct.
