This study will argue that visual art and the making of images share much With other languages. If writing can be deoonstructed, visual Imagery can be deconfigured, for figuring an image is much like structuring a sentence. The process of deconfiguration however relies on repetition. DeconflguratiOn therefore denies any claim of a primary creator. It will be argued though that deconfiguratlon remains creative as it engages the imagination in a process of transference and through association. Moreover, deconfiguration shows how binary opposites are essential In the making of artworks. The repetitive process takes place when the artwork Is made and continues during the appreciation and/or interpretation of the artwork. For the interpretation to really deconfigure, it would mean that the image constituted by the artist has metaphorical, allegorical and even symbolical implications. OPSOMMING Heteroseksuele interaksie word deur adverteerders in televisieadvertensies aangewend en die doel van die studie was om te bepaal hoe kykers dit ervaar. Data is ingesamel deur `n aantal advertensies aan skoolkinders te vertoon waarna onderhoude gevoer is om vas te stel hoe die kinders die advertensies ervaar het. Daar is van konsepte vanuit die analitiese sielkunde gebruik gemaak om kodes te identifiseer. Die navorser het deur die tegniek van inhoudsontleding die voorkoms van manifestasies van die kontraseksuele komplekse in die onderhoude bestudeer. Daar is bevind dat die erotiese aspekte van die konraseksuele komplekse by voorkeur in die bestudeerde advertensies aangewend is en dat deelnemers daarop gelet het. SUMMARY The purpose of this study was to investigate a style of advertising from the perspective of the Analytical Psychology. The style involves the depiction of a young man and woman in a state of interaction with one another. In an attempt to understand how the viewer experiences this, concepts from the Analytical Psychology of C.G. Jung were used. Jung claimed that the psyche contains constructs which he termed archetypes. Archetypes are ideas and predispositions, organisms are born possessing these. If the theory is correct, it can be assumed that these constructs will influence human behaviour. The archetypes responsible for initiating heterosexual interest are called the anima and the animus. The prevalence of different aspects of these in four television commercials as experienced by participants during interviews was studied by means of content analysis. This thesis is an analysis of J.D. Salinger’s “A Perfect Day for Bananafish” from both mythic-archetypal and gender-oriented perspectives. It looks specifically at the way a gender-oriented reading allows one to interpret “Bananafish” as a radical reassessment of Carl Jung’s ideas about the process of individuation, as well as Joseph Campbell’s conception of what he describes as the monomyth in his The Hero with a Thousand Faces. The reader is asked to look at how patriarchal values have greatly limited the development of these characters’ identities over time, and the complex archetypal and mythic implications of this limitation.

The material studied was extracted of the book of Jo inserted in the Holy Bible. The author intends to analyze, with this essay, the suffering of a just, knowing the symptoms came from trauma; identifying the levels of mourning; recognizing the perceptions of this character about himself, his suffering, people around him and his divinity; as well as analyzing the suffering in three dimensions: physical, psychical and spiritual. Through the reading of the myth, the author intends to identify the archetypal images expressed both in speech and in Jo s actions. Using these analyses as a starting point it is also possible to notice the model of suffering of a just, his or her difficulties, pain, as well as the process of overcoming the mourning and the reintegration of his physical and spiritual health. / Esta dissertação objetiva apresentar as imagens arquetípicas do sofrimento do justo desveladas pelo mito de Jó. Lyon : the development of archetypal urban forms : an investigation into the public realm of the ancient city

The public realm of the ancient, Western city evolved situationally - over time and in response to the ethos of its citizens. Some of the urban forms that were born within the context of the ancient city are still in use today. These now archetypal forms met the specific needs of the ancient city, and as they were repeated, patterns arose that came to define what a physical city was. The physical form of the city and the citizen body were intrinsically linked in the ancient world - and in ancient Greece were defined by the same word - polis. In Rome, the city and the collective citizenry come to be defined separately - as urbs and civitas, respectively. The Romans continue to use and elaborate upon the urban forms and patterns developed in Greece, in support of the Roman civitas. The development of the public realm and its most archetypal forms, from the stoa to the public plaza, of a selection of ancient cities will be examined in three parts; Greece, Rome, and Roman colonies. Within these three representative examples, a tripartite examination of the myths, rituals, and development of the public realm will give a complete picture of the city - its form and its ethos. First, the Greek city will be discussed using the architectural development of the Athenian agora within its historical and political context. With an understanding of the Greek public realm, specific architectural advancements, including the stoa form, of the Greeks can be better understood. Second, the Roman elaboration of the Greek forms will be traced in the growth of the Forum Boarium in Rome. While situationally-developed, the archetypal urban forms that grew in Greece and Rome came to define urban patterns that could be used in new settings, like those of colonial settlements, while retaining the ethos of the original. From its first colony of Ostia to its exemplary Gallic capital of Lyon, Rome established a codified set of urban patterns that both represented and explained Roman urban values to its expanding populace. Finally, the Roman contributions, particularly the colony and fora patterns that evolved in Gaul, will be examined in detail using the colonial capital of Lyon as the primary example. As new socio-political systems evolved - the polis in Athens and the Empire in Rome - correlating urban forms developed in support of them. In the ancient city, the city and the public realm were the containers for ritual action - and the architecture that developed reflected this basic purpose of the city.

Symbols standing in the Ilé Àsé Òpó Afonjá religious context regarded as a living heap of African cultural tradition in Brazil, a historical and cultural heritage, a Nago traditional jewel box of learning in diasporic Bahia. Bahia, a privileged area for these cultures preservation, offers us the possibility to examine more deeply the African contribution to Brazilian identity constitution. We have present in our minds the African Diaspora, especially on the two ways route between Nigeria and Salvador in Bahia. The area in which has been built this cultural bridge was the South Atlantic. In this area a continuous cultural bridge has been built along the last three hundred years. Comparisons and connections have in traffic and cultural mobility two of his constitutive pillars. Our research is restricted to the Orí, to the comprehension of his nature and characteristics in human existence as psycho-social phenomenon. In the African cosmovision, strictly unitary, the visible world and the invisible one are not separated, they interpenetrate each other in continuity, so the importance to well understand the interrelation between them, between the Orun and the Aiyé. The Orí presence and motion in these worlds is marked by an important role. Our hypothesis understands that Orí fulfils an epistemological function in the Orishas tradition. Thus, the comprehension of his meaning is fundamental for the Orishas acquaintance as well as for their rituals. For that tradition descendents the undermost gestures do make sense. They are actions that wave to the human condition boundaries reflected in the rituals. This means that on the Terreiro and in the regarded rituals he is meant again. Therefore, his symbols can be read by the archetypal way. Orí inside the human being is a conscious light. He is the African ancestry meant again in the New Atlantic / A pesquisa realiza uma primeira aproximação do inconsciente arquetípico presente no mundo dos símbolos sobre Orí. Símbolos presentes no contexto religioso do Ilé Àsé Òpó Afonjá, considerado um autêntico acervo vivo de Tradição e Cultura Africanas dos Orixás no Brasil, um patrimônio histórico e cultural, um porta-jóias dos saberes de tradição nagô na Bahia diaspórica. A Bahia, um dos espaços privilegiados de preservação das culturas africanas, oferece-nos a possibilidade de examinar mais profundamente as contribuições africanas para a constituição da identidade brasileira. Tem-se presente a Diáspora Africana, especialmente no seu percurso de mão dupla entre a Nigéria e Salvador-Bahia. O espaço no qual se construiu essa ponte cultural foi o Atlântico Sul. Nesse espaço, ao longo de trezentos anos, uma contínua ponte cultural foi edificada. Comparações e conexões têm no trânsito e mobilidades culturais dois de seus pilares constitutivos. Nossa pesquisa está circunscrita ao Orí, à compreensão de sua natureza, relevância e funções na existência humana como fenômeno psicossocial. Na cosmovisão africana, marcadamente unitária, o mundo visível e o invisível não estão separados, interpenetram-se em continuidade um com o outro, daí, a importância de se compreender bem as inter-relações entre eles, entre o Orun e o Aiyé. A presença, a movimentação do Orí entre esses mundos reveste-se de um papel importante. Nossa hipótese compreende que Orí exerce uma função epistemológica na Tradição dos Orixás. Sendo assim, a compreensão do seu significado é fundamental para o conhecimento dos Orixás e dos rituais. Para os descendentes dessa tradição os ínfimos gestos fazem sentido, são ações que acenam para os limites da condição humana refletida nos rituais. Isto significa que no Terreiro e nos rituais observados ele é re-significado culturalmente. Portanto, seus símbolos podem ser lidos pela via dos arquétipos. Orí no ser humano é uma luz da consciência. É a ancestralidade africana re-significada, na nova conjuntura atlântica
