A historical study of Arthur S. Flemming: his impact on federal education and training programs relating to aging during the period 1958-1978

Green, Rosalie E. January 1985 (has links)
This historical study of Arthur S. Flemming described the changes in his activities and views of federal education and training programs relating to aging. Flemming's public administration career included service as Chief of the Office of Defense Mobilization, Secretary of DHEW, and chairman of many presidential advisory boards and commissions. A career-long thread of concern for older Americans extended from his opposition to mandatory retirement as Civil Service Commissioner to his outstanding efforts as Commissioner on Aging to provide education and training programs for service personnel and practitioners in aging. At the end of his tenure as Commissioner on Aging, a national aging network existed that involved hundreds of thousands of paid and volunteer persons who served the needs cf the aging, and education and training related to aging had an organizational foundation at the federal level, in institutions of higher education, in the private sector, and in voluntary organizations. / Ed. La volonté chez Schopenhauer et Nietzsche

Jomphe, Simon 23 April 2018 (has links)

Ahlkvist, Felix January 2017 (has links)
The subject of this thesis is the ethics of German 19th century philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer. The study examines Schopenhauer’s ethics and investigates his criticism of the ethics of his older German colleague Immanuel Kant. By arguing that all true morally acceptable and good actions originate from compassion, Schopenhauer distinguishes his view from the deontological ethics held by Kant. The study focuses on Schopenhauer’s view on the basis of morals. Its purpose is to consider an ethical perspective that interconnect moral considerations with human empathy. By comparing the arguments presented by these two philosophers one can get a clearer view of the extent to which Schopenhauer’s criticism of Kant’s ethics is justified. In the analysis, five major parts of Schopenhauer’s criticism are identified and studied one by one. The findings suggest that Schopenhauer’s ethics and the ethics of Kant can be represented as two different ethical paradigms.

Arte por um fio: mitopoética nas obras têxteis de Bispo do Rosário e de Judith Scott: um estudo no campo da recepção crítica / Artwork by a thread mythopoetic in textile art works of Bispo do Rosario and Judith Scott: a study in the field of aesthetic-critical reception

Oliveira, Solange de 05 May 2017 (has links)
This research aims to enquire how the statute of some art works has been established in the outsider/cultivated art reception register. In this approach the artists are often classified accordingly to those categories, even though they are traditionally opposites: Arthur Bispo do Rosario (1909-1989), an artist whose works are linked to the contemporaneous art, and Judith Scott (1943-2005), an artist who has only some of her work included in the modern and Contemporary Arts system. The intent is to examine what is the criteria and reading tools currently used by curators and art critics in both national and international exhibits, to evaluate if they have considered that bulk of work as something of significant value or if the approach is one of incorporating it into the system in merely formal terms. Through the investigation of the available literature related to those events, we intend to think the criteria used in the evaluation and fruition of those artists work. They have in common the preference for textile materials; the weaving/unweaving process is the basis of their poetic. However, they hold different status of integration in the arts system. Finally, this research aims to investigate how much the choice of textile materials in the development of mythopoetic has been considered and accepted by the critics. In the middle ground, we point to a view that is inside the arts system, listing some of the pronoucements of the contemporary french artist Louise Bourgeois (1911-2010), regarding specially two aspects of interest in the present study: her relation with textiles, be it from the formal or conceptual point of view, and also her singular perspective about the creative process and the creators commitment to it. The artist does not judge or deliberate in order to establish or set out a boundary between the fields of (in-) and (out-)sider art, which makes her perspective even more interesting. Reflecting on the interpretation of foreign works connected to the institutionalized art is an important and valuable contribution to the construction of artistic knowledge and to the consolidation of critical fortune. It also provides a discussion on how to consider the possibility of viewing the Outsider Art from the art systems perspective

L'Orient d'Arthur de Gobineau / The Arthur de Gobineau’s East

Bel Hadj Yahia, Emna 14 June 2016 (has links)
Arthur Gobineau is an author who sparked controversy over his racial theories. These theories, however, have contributed to blur the image of the author, often described as the father of racist tendencies. This thesis is not concerned with the essayist, but with the writer, as a knowledgeable of the East, humanist, curious of the other, and especially unknown.Beyond these racial theories, Gobineau is the author of a literary work which, under the appearance of a hieratic classicism, sometimes gives us a vision of a highly complex man. It is one of the last representatives of the analysis literature, which is peculiar to French. But he is also positioned on the margins of the orientalist vision of his time. His journey to the East was operated first on an approach that was based upon subjective sensation and emotion before that the passion would eventually outweigh prejudices. The New Asians operates a transfiguration of the personal myth into a literary myth: the personal quest for origins is reflected in the return to the cradle of humanity. Literary fiction made its matrices wherein it all began.Transposing to the East reminiscences of his native culture, the author puts to the test of this elsewhere western patterns and figures. Is it the thought that grows with the fiction or the same obsessions that come back into the folds of the story as contraband? It is this question that we tried to answer by probing the eastern mystery of an unknown author.
