Uniformed Military Counselors: Effects of Counselor Attire on Potential Client Initial Perceptions and Preferences

Huddleston, James Ellsworth 05 1900 (has links)
This study was undertaken to investigate the influence of a military counselor s attire on potential clients expressed perceptions of and preferences for a counselor. Ninety volunteer participants were selected from a large southwestern Air Force base. Participants ranged in age from 18 to 46 years, with 68 male and 22 female volunteers. Rank was divided into 69 enlisted personnel (56 males and 13 females) and 21 officers (12 males and 9 females). Three videotapes were made depicting a counselor in three attire conditions: civilian; military officer; and military enlisted. A pilot study was completed which validated the research assumption that the videotapes differed only in the counselor's attire conditions. Participants were randomly assigned to three treatment groups. After each group was shown a videotape portraying the counselor in one of the three attire conditions, the participants were administered the Counselor Rating Form and the Referral Questionaire. The Counselor Rating Form is composed of three scales which assess perceptions of a counselors' trustworthiness, attractiveness, and expertness. The Referral Questionaire assesses subjects preferences to see a specific counselor in the event counseling is desired. Two main hypotheses, each having three subhypotheses, were developed for the study. The first hypothesis compared participants reactions to a counselor in civilian and military attire conditions. The second hypothesis compared participants' reactions to a counselor in two military attire conditions representing officer and enlisted ranks. Data was analyzed by analysis of variance procedures, with Scheffe' methods used, when appropriate, for multiple comparisons of mean scores.

Påverkar fastighetsmäklarens klädsel förtroende hos kunden? : En kvantitativ studie som undersöker sambandet mellan The Big Five, klädsel och förtroende / Does the attire of real estate agents impact customer trust?

Ekvall, Emma, Tidlund, Yolanda January 2023 (has links)
Titel: Does the attire of real estate agents impact customer trust? Level: Student thesis, final assignment for Bachelor Degree in Business Administration Authors: Emma Ekvall and Yolanda Tidlund  Supervisor: Lars-Johan Åge Date: 2023 June Aim: The purpose of this study is to analyze the customer's personality traits and gain an understanding of how the customer perceives the real estate agent's attire and how it influences customer trust. To address the purpose, the study will examine the population's trust in real estate agents, the impact of real estate agent attire on trust, and the correlation between the customer's personality traits within the Big Five framework and their perception of the real estate agent's attire as trustworthy. Method: This study employs a quantitative approach with a deductive perspective to investigate the subject. Data collection was conducted through a web-based survey distributed to a convenience sample via various platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. A total of 176 responses were obtained, of which 173 were deemed usable for analysis. The statistical software JASP was utilized to analyze the data. Descriptive analyses and bivariate correlation analyses were performed to present and interpret the results. Result and conclusions: The results of the study indicate a weak correlation between the customer's personality traits and their perception of the real estate agent's attire as trustworthy. Specifically, a correlation is identified between agreeableness and neuroticism and the evaluation of the real estate agent's attire. In summary, the participants in the study generally displayed a high level of trust in real estate agents, with formal attire being perceived as the most trustworthy. Contribution of the thesis: This study contributes to the knowledge regarding the impact of real estate agent attire on trust. The findings of this study are also applicable in practice for real estate agents. By understanding how attire influences trust, real estate agents can adapt their clothing choices to become more competitive in the market and better meet customer expectations. Suggestions for future research: This study demonstrates a weak correlation between the customer's personality traits and their perception of the real estate agent's attire as trustworthy. The study indicates that other factors such as gender, age, experience, trust, and stereotypes have a greater impact on trust than the customer's personality traits. Therefore, it would be interesting to further investigate how social and demographic factors affect trust in real estate agent attire, as well as conducting the study among a broader population.

Registered Dietitian Dress and The Effect of Dietitian Dress on Perceived Professionalism

Packer, Connie Lynn 07 December 2007 (has links) (PDF)
People use others' dress to make assumptions, including how they believe the wearer will behave. Observers then adjust their behavior in response to the anticipated behavior of the wearer. Physician or nurse dress affects the degree to which patients perceive the medical professional as confident, experienced, competent, mature, trustworthy, and professional. Dietitian dress has not been studied. Our purpose was to identify 1) the current level of formality of dress of registered dietitians (RD), 2) characteristics of dress codes, 3) the effect of RD dress on patient/client perceptions of professional traits, and 4) the level of formality at which an RD is perceived as being most professional. Phase I Respondents were randomly selected from the American Hospital Association database and the national WIC directory. A total of 972 managers (449 WIC and 523 hospital nutrition services) completed a survey about their facility's dress code policy for RDs, and how the facility's dietitians dress for work. Data showed that at most WIC clinics dietitians dress in Semi-Casual (khaki pants/collared knit top) attire while most hospitals dietitians dress in Business Casual II (dress slacks/knit shirt) attire. Over half of all managers surveyed felt that dietitian dress was important and a priority. Phase II Respondents were patients/clients of a hospital or WIC clinic in Illinois, Virginia, or Utah. Respondents gave demographic information and rated pictures of a dietitian in nine sets of clothing on eight characteristics: empathetic, competent, approachable, credible, organized, effective, professional, and confident. Respondents identified the dietitian with whom they would most and least prefer to have nutritional counseling. A total of 582 surveys were collected. These data showed that WIC participants and hospital patients most preferred the dietitian to dress in Business Casual (dress slacks/collared dress shirt) with a lab coat; this attire also received the most positive/desirable Professional Characteristic Scores. All respondents least preferred the dietitian dressed in Casual (jeans/knit shirt) attire; this attire received the least positive/desirable Professional Characteristic Scores. Only 1.1% of WIC and 8.1% of hospital dietitians regularly wear dress slacks, a collared shirt, and a lab coat, the patients'/clients' most preferred dress for dietitians.

High School Athletic Directors Perceptions of Athletic Trainer's Professional Knowledge and Competence Based on Attire

Cunningham, Raechel N 01 June 2013 (has links) (PDF)
Very little research is available to identify how attire in the athletic training field impacts perceptions of professional knowledge and competence. The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of attire on high school athletic directors’ perceptions of an athletic trainer’s professional knowledge and competence. The researcher emailed a questionnaire to ninety-four high school athletic directors from the state of California. The questionnaire measured the effect of attire on the perceptions of skills, knowledge, approachability, experience, education level, overall competence, and representation of an athletic trainer and focused on the difference between khaki attire, professional attire, and workout attire in relationship to perceived knowledge and competence. The respondents rated khaki attire highest followed by professional attire and workout attire when evaluating skills, approachability, overall competence, experience, and knowledge. Representation and education level rated khaki attire as the highest, followed by professional attire, and workout attire rated the lowest. These results indicate khaki attire as the most appropriate attire for high school athletic trainers to wear to achieve the highest perceptions of competence and knowledge from high school athletic directors.

Components of a Basic Wardrobe for Professional Women

Gross, Thelma Clement 01 1900 (has links)
The study was based on a survey of the outer garments and accessories within the wardrobes of twenty professional and business women of this vicinity. A questionnaire was used in order to obtain information concerning the wardrobes. From the results tabulated, the following concusions were reached: (1) the expenditures to provide adequate wardrobes were much more than they should have been; (2) in most cases, the distribution of garments was inadequate to meet the needs for all occasions; (3) the color selections were unrelated; and (4) the number of articles in the majority of the wardrobes was excessive. In light of the findings, the components of what the writer considers an adequate basic wardrobe have been presented and discussed.

Affiliation with the Past : Narrating Identity Through Neo-Edwardian Style in Digital Era

Romanova, Daria January 2020 (has links)
The focus of this study is on the contemporary phenomenon of the adaptation the motifs of the European turn-of-the-century fashion – Edwardian fashion (1901-1910) – to daily or a near-daily sartorial practice, defined by the author as neo-Edwardian style. On the premises of ethnographic study, this thesis explores how people transform and embody their identities through garments by living images and motifs of ‘past’ to negotiate the meanings of their clothing, appearances and personalities in the present. There is a scarcity in academic studies on the subject of styles inspired by historical fashion and in particular the neo-Edwardian style as a form of identity formation and representation. By applying a multi-methodological approach, including both historiographic and ethnographic research, the thesis strives to define the role of the neo-Edwardian style as an embodied sartorial practice and motives for its adaptation in the 21st century. The findings show that the neo-Edwardian style serves as an alternative style choice, reflecting an individual taste and should be understood as a visible marker of identity narrative and connected to the sense of ‘true self’ expressed in the personal style.

Bärandet av religiös klädsel och symboler i Sverige och Frankrike : en komparativrättslig studie

Ghebrehiwot, Arsema, Ouertani, Rania January 2020 (has links)
The bachelor thesis examines the protection of religious freedom in Sweden and France, with a main point on the right to wear religious symbols and clothing. The subject is processed in relation to the Member States obligations in accordance with the freedom of religion, provided for in Article 9 of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights. The right to wear religious symbols and attire has a broad meaning, and in this thesis special focus is placed on the right to wear a religious veil, as the Swedish legal situation is in stark contrast to the French law's restrictive view on the subject. In order to answer the thesis main question, a legal-judicial and comparative law approach is applied. Legislation that has been dealt with in its entirety, is the second chapter in the Swedish regeringsformen (1974:152), the European Convention, the French principle of laïcité, the French Education Act (Article L141-5-1 du Code de l’éducation), the French law on the prohibition of veils in public environments (Loi n° 2010-1192  du 11 octobre 2010 interdisant la dissimulation du visage dans l'espace public) and the French Constitution (Constitution of October 4, 1958). Finally, the authors orientation in the research questions of the essay has been emphasized, and a remark about the French legislation has been made.
