Carpool in Östra Sala backe : Case study on how the parking standard isaffected

Andersson, Jonas, Jakobsson, David, Larsson, Magnus January 2012 (has links)
In this case study the area of Östra Sala backe, that will be built in the eastern part of Uppsala, has been studied. Uppsala County wants to lower the area needed for parking from todays parking standard of 1,1 parking per household. Östra Sala backe has a vision of becoming an environmental friendly area and a living neighborhood. The way the inhabitants use cars for transports currently is not sustainable. Östra Salabacke wants to change the behavior to become sustainable and to encourage usage of alternative transport, without affecting the freedom the car provides. If fewer journeys is to be made by car or the car use is more efficient the parking norm will decrease. In the case study a model has been developed using data about population distribution and travel patterns. Data has been obtained from two similar projects in Sweden,Västra Hamnen in Malmö and Hammarby Sjöstad in Stockholm. These projects have been chosen due to the similarities in size, located in regions with a high growth of population and they are all environmental pilot projects. Data from reports about travel behavior and patterns among the Swedish population has been used to simulate the model developed. A few assumptions have been made about Östra Sala backe due to lack of statistic and the fact that the area has not yet been built. This data is the basis for the simulation to find a suitable size and mix of cars in the carpool of ÖstraSala backe.

LÅGTEMPERERAD LUFTBUREN VÄRME OCH BYGGNADSINTEGRERAD FÖRNYBAR ENERGIUTVINNING  I HÅLLBARA ÖSTRA SALA BACKE, UPPSALA

Netterstedt, Carl January 2012 (has links)

Why buildings’ energy use differ from expected values : A study of sustainable building with focus on the planned area Östra Sala backe

Eriksson, Ida, Pettersson, Lisa, Stadler, Sofia January 2013 (has links)
The municipality of Uppsala together with eight constructors are currently planning a sustainable residential area in Östra Sala backe. The aim of this report is to identify the main factors that are important when calculating the specific energy use in an apartment building. Two previous similar projects, Västra Hamnen in the city of Malmö and Hammarby Sjöstad in the city of Stockholm, are studied and simulations in VIP-energy are performed. Sensitivity analyses concerning the indoor temperature, the efficiency of FTX-systems and the U-values of windows are also executed. The simulations are based on information from the constructors of Östra Sala backe, standard values and mean values from Västra Hamnen and Hammarby Sjöstad. The results show that differences between the estimated and measured values in specific energy use can reach about 50 %, or 25.2 kWh per m2 ATEMP and year, and that the efficiency of the FTX-system is the most important parameter.

Khalil, Shirin January 2018 (has links)
Both the current and anticipated surge of urban population in Sweden have put pressure on municipalities to address housing shortages in main cities. Only in Uppsala, the annual construction requirement is estimated to reach up to 3400 homes. As one of the most prevalent development projects in Uppsala today, the new district of Östra Sala backe is planned to offer 2500 homes as an answer to this housing shortage. However, with the pressure to build sustainable and cost efficient homes at a rapid pace, all the project’s stakeholders must give sufficient consideration to the aesthetic dimension in planning and construction. This study examines how the concept of aesthetics has been implemented and interpreted in the planning of Östra Sala backe. Four interviews with project stakeholders are carried out, in addition to analysis of project documentation and observations of current building development. The results of the research are then compared with how the aesthetic concept has been discussed in both planning theory and historical city planning ideals. The study shows that within the project’s aesthetic focus, the creation of variation in form and social value was given most consideration. As such, functional forms and sustainable values were prioritised.

Reading in the park : A new context for the library of Kungsholmen / Parkläsning : En ny plats för Kungsholmens bibliotek

Evensen, Fredrik January 2014 (has links)
My project is about the library of Kungsholmen, spaces for interaction and theactivity of reading. In the beginning of the 20th century The public libraries of Sweden was born out of the idea that the “people” needed to be educated. Collective public education became the instrument by which the people would become more involved in creating a modern society. Throughout the 20th century the library grew stronger and together with the idea of “Folkhemmet” they turned into strong and distinctive symbols of the collective civic value and democracy. The access of knowledge and a built environment for everyone is two of the fundamental values when speaking of the library. At Kungsholmens the library is cramped away within the rumbling noise of the intersection of SanktEriksgatan / Drottningholmsvägen. Here you find the entrance to the third most visited library in the Stockholm region with about 2000 visitors/day. There has been a decision made for transforming the property that the library is a part of into a new large Shopping mall. As the early plans show, one of the entrances to the mall will cut straight through the library space leaving the visitors to pass through the shopping mall when moving within the library space. The library holds a tempo and carries a certain atmosphere, an atmosphere that I find difficult to combine within a shopping mall environment. But also thefundamental thought that Valfrid Palmgren had, the author of the public library inSweden in the beginning of the 20th century, that the library was to be free from external and commercial forces. I therefor find it somehow problematic having to pass through a shopping mall to be able to access the public space of the library. I therefor propose a new site and a new context for the library of Kungsholmen.

From one master to another : A comparative thematic analysis of Sámi indigeneity, strategic essentialism and gender/sexuality in Ann-Helén Laestadius’s Stolen (2021) and Moa Backe Åstot’s Polar Fire (2021)

Lahen-Kempas, Sasha January 2022 (has links)
The following thesis examines the process of identity making in the novels Stolen (2021) by Ann-Helén Laestadius and Polar Fire (2021) by Moa Backe Åstot. By a comparative thematic analysis of the texts, and through concepts from postcolonial and decolonial theory, the thesis investigates the challenges for two Sámi youths in a contemporary Sápmi setting as they try to renew the image of Saminess. The analysis explores how aspects such as indigeneity, strategic essentialism, gender and sexuality influence the young characters Elsa and Ánte in their attempts to become independent reindeer herders. Elsa and Ánte are constantly reminded of the history and traditions of the Sámi people, which is filled with both pride and shame. Indeed, the thesis also takes into account the history of the Swedish church and the Swedish government's involvement in Sámi societies, such as the Sámi boarding schools that resulted in family separations and loss of language, and reindeer herding regulations that still affect the Sámi community today. The analysis concludes that history, government policies and strict interpretations of Sámi traditions are interwoven with contemporary Sámi culture, and thus affects the young protagonists as they try to navigate between the inherited collective struggle of their ancestors and their individual needs when it comes to shaping their own Sámi identity.
