Campanian-maastrichtian Planktonic Foraminiferal Investigation And Biostratigraphy (kokaksu Section, Bartin, Nw Anatolia): Remarks On The Cretaceous Paleoceanography Based On Quantitative Data

Guray, Alev 01 August 2006 (has links) (PDF)
The aim of this study is to delineate the Campanian-Maastrichtian boundary by using planktonic foraminifers. In this manner, Kokaksu Section (Bartin, NW Anatolia) was selected and the Akveren Formation, characterized by a calciturbiditic-clayey limestone and marl intercalation of Campanian-Maastrichtian age, was examined. 59 samples were emphasized for position of boundary. Late Campanian-Maastrichtian planktonic foraminifers were studied in thin section and by washed samples. Two different biostratigraphical frameworks have been established. Globotruncanid zonation consists of Campanian Globotruncana aegyptiaca Zone, Upper Campanian-Middle Maastrichtian Gansserina gansseri Zone and Upper Maastrichtian Abathomphalus mayaroensis Zone, whereas heterohelicids biozonation includes Campanian Pseudotextularia elegans Zone, Lower Maastrichtian Planoglobulina acervuloinides Zone, Middle Maastrichtian Racemiguembelina fructicosa Zone and Upper Maastrichtian Pseudoguembelina hariensis Zone. Campanian-Maastrichtian boundary was determined as the boundary between Pseudotextularia elegans and Planoglobulina acervuloinides zones and Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary was designated by total disappearance of Late Cretaceous forms. Heterohelicid biozonation has been established in this study for the first time in Turkey. Collecting 300 individuals from each sample, diversity and abundance of assemblages were analyzed in terms of genus and species. ir evaluation of are important in observation of evolutionary trends and ecological changes. Moreover, evolution of different morphotypes is important in this evaluation. Such a study is new in Turkey in terms of examination of responses of planktonic foraminifers to environmental changes. Taxonomic framework has been constructed to define each species and differences of comparable forms have been discussed. Both scanning electron microscope (SEM) photographs and thin section photographs were used in order to show se distinctions.

Controllable sentence simplification in Swedish : Automatic simplification of sentences using control prefixes and mined Swedish paraphrases

Monsen, Julius January 2023 (has links)
The ability to read and comprehend text is essential in everyday life. Some people, including individuals with dyslexia and cognitive disabilities, may experience difficulties with this. Thus, it is important to make textual information accessible to diverse target audiences. Automatic Text Simplification (ATS) techniques aim to reduce the linguistic complexity in texts to facilitate readability and comprehension. However, existing ATS systems often lack customization to specific user needs, and simplification data for languages other than English is limited. This thesis addressed ATS in a Swedish context, building upon novel methods that provide more control over the simplification generation process, enabling user customization. A dataset of Swedish paraphrases was mined from a large amount of text data. ATS models were then trained on this dataset utilizing prefix-tuning with control prefixes. Two sets of text attributes and their effects on performance were explored for controlling the generation. The first had been used in previous research, and the second was extracted in a data-driven way from existing text complexity measures. The trained ATS models for Swedish and additional models for English were evaluated and compared using SARI and BLEU metrics. The results for the English models were consistent with results from previous research using controllable generation mechanisms, although slightly lower. The Swedish models provided significant improvements over the baseline, in the form of a fine-tuned BART model, and compared to previous Swedish ATS results. These results highlight the efficiency of using paraphrase data paired with controllable generation mechanisms for simplification. Furthermore, the different sets of attributes provided very similar results, pointing to the fact that both these sets of attributes manage to capture aspects of simplification. The process of mining paraphrases, selecting control attributes and other methodological implications are discussed, leading to suggestions for future research.

Fine-tuning and evaluating a Swedish language model for automatic discharge summary gener- ation from Swedish clinical notes

Berg, Nils January 2023 (has links)
Background Healthcare professionals spend large amounts of time on documentation tasks in contemporary healthcare. One such documentation task is the discharge summary which summarizes a care episode. However, research shows that many discharge summaries written today are of lacking quality. One method which has the po- tential to alleviate the situation is natural language processing, specifically text summarization, as it could automatically summarize patient notes into a discharge summary. Aim This thesis aims to provide initial knowledge on the topic of summarization of Swedish clinical text into discharge summaries. Furthermore, this thesis aims to provide knowledge specifically on performing summarization using the Stockholm EPR Gastro ICD-10 Pseudo Corpus II dataset, consisting of Swedish electronic health record data. Method Using the design science framework, an artefact was produced in the form of a model, based on a pre-trained Swedish BART model, which can summarize patient notes into a discharge summary. This model was developed using the Hugging Face library and evaluated both via ROUGE scores as well as via a manual evaluation performed by a now retired healthcare professional. Results The discharge summaries produced from a test set by the artefact model achieved ROUGE-1/2/L/S scores of 0.280/0.057/0.122/0.068. The manual evaluation im- plies that the artefact is prone to fail to accurately include clinically important information, that the artefact produces text with low readability, and that the artefact is very prone to produce severe hallucinations. Conclusion The artefact’s performance is worse than the results of previous studies on the topic of summarization of patient notes into discharge summaries, in terms of ROUGE scores. The manual evaluation of the artefact performance suggests sev- eral shortcomings in its capabilities to accurately summarize a care episode. Since this was the first major work conducted on the topic of text summarization using the Stockholm EPR Gastro ICD-10 Pseudo Corpus II dataset, there are many possible directions for future works.

Edimentology And Stratigraphy Of Turbeyani Marl Sequences And Inpiri Limestones (late Barremian - Albian): Implications For Possible Source And Reservoir Rocks (nw Turkey)

Nabiyev, Anar 01 April 2007 (has links) (PDF)
SEDIMENTOLOGY AND STRATIGRAPHY OF T&Uuml / RBEYANI MARL SEQUENCES AND iNPiRi LIMESTONES (LATE BARREMIAN - ALBIAN): IMPLICATIONS FOR POSSIBLE SOURCE AND RESERVOIR ROCKS (NW TURKEY) Anar Nabiyev M.Sc., Department of Geological Engineering Supervisor: Assist. Prof. Dr. i. &Ouml / mer Yilmaz April 2007, 105 pages Sedimentology, cyclostratigraphy and sequence stratigraphy of the T&uuml / rbeyani Marls (Albian) and the inpiri Limestone (Upper Barremian-Albian) members of Ulus Formation (incigez, Bartin, Amasra) were interpreted in this study. In the T&uuml / rbeyani Marls total of five different facies were defined. Marl and limestone facies are the most abundant in the succession. The depositional environment of the succession was defined as an outer shelf area. Within the pelagic marls 39 smaller order and 9 higher order cycles were recognized. These cycles correspond to the parasequences and parasequence sets of sequence stratigraphy, respectively. In the measured section only one type-3 sequence boundary was identified. In the inpiri Limestones great variety of limestone facies are represented. Bioclastic, peloidal, intraclastic wackestone-packstone-grainstone facies are the most abundant. Moreover, occurrence of lime mudstone, fenestral limestone, ooid packstone-grainstone, and sandstone facies are present as well. In the measured section of the inpiri Limestones 25 fifth order and 6 fourth order cycles were defined. These cycles correspond to the parasequence sets and systems tracts of the sequence stratigraphy, respectively. Total of three transgressive and three highstand systems tract were defined. Only one type 2 sequence boundary was identified in the measured section, the rest of them are interrupted by covers. This study revealed that the T&uuml / rbeyani Marls and the inpiri Limestones are not economically valuable as petroleum source and reservoir rocks, respectively. The total organic carbon (TOC) values of marl facies of the T&uuml / rbeyani marls are very low, and the pore spaces observed in the inpiri Limestone are cement filled making it unsuitable reservoir rock. Keywords: sedimentology, cyclostratigraphy, sequence stratigraphy, T&uuml / rbeyani Marls, inpiri Limestones, Albian, Upper Barremian, Amasra, Bartin.

The present study aims to present the work of André Schwarz-Bart, Le dernier des Justes , published in 1959 , and the forms such as memory and violence appear in the novel. We start by analyzing what are the forms of violence included in the novel, all of them connected to the history of Jewish communities in Europe and the persecutions they suffered centuries. Beyond the persecutions, expulsions and massacres, other forms of violence are researched, such as labor relations. The ways in which the novel builds the sets and characters and how they relate to the legend of the Lamed-vav and the history of European Jews from the Middle Ages to World War II were also studied. The problems concerning the reception of the novel related to the troubled historical period by which France passed in the 1950s were also problematized, since, both, the book and the author were in the middle of accusations of plagiarism, falsification and historical ignorance of Judaism at the same time it was recognized as one of the greatest French novels of the century. Also sought to demonstrate the relevance of the novel given its universal character that goes beyond the Jewish and Holocaust issue / Mestrado / Teoria e Critica Literaria / Mestre em Teoria e História Literária
