The London Novels of Colin MacInnesGreene, Sarah Lee 05 1900 (has links)
The novels that compose Colin MacInnes's London trilogy, City_ of Spades, Absolute Beginners, and Mr. Love and Justice, are concerned with British society as it has evolved since World War II. By depicting certain "outsiders," MacInnes illustrates a basic cause of social unrest: the average Britisher is blind to societal changes resulting from the war. Most citizens mistreat the African immigrants, allow their children to be exploited by the few adults who realize the buying power of the postwar youth, and remain oblivious to crime, even among their own police force.
Though the novels are social documentaries, they are also valuable as literature. MacInnes's exceptional powers of description, together with his facility with language in general, contribute to the trilogy's merit as a compelling exploration of the human condition.

Vad döljer sig mellan pärmarna? : En läromedelsanalys av två nybörjarskolor för piano / What is Hidden Underneath? : A Textbook Analysis of Two Piano Books for BeginnersNygren, Ylva January 2012 (has links)
The aim of this study was to examine pedagogical and didactic aspects in piano books for beginners. This was done through a close observation of the textbooks Vi spelar piano 1 by Carl-Bertil Agnestig and Pianoresan 1 by Galina Sjevtjenko and Natalia Kazimirovskaja. The results of this observation were then compared to literature, mainly pedagogical books and research studies. The final result demonstrates which teaching methods have been used as well as the contents of the books. This has been subdivided into three categories: the songs, the musical progression and the musical expression. The study shows that Vi spelar piano 1 is based on Rostvall and West's schema theory to help the students gain knowledge. Furthermore, the aim of Pianoresan 1 is to provide students with good basic skills in piano playing. This is done through practicing harmony and aural skills, and also through the students' own creativity.

The Carver Canard: Textual Restoration as Authorial EffacerFlanagan, John 26 July 2012 (has links)
On July 8th, 1980, Raymond Carver wrote an impassioned letter to his editor, Gordon Lish, begging him to cancel the publication of what would soon become Carver’s minimalist masterpiece, What We Talk About When We Talk About Love. Carver argues in his letter that Lish’s heavily-edited versions of his original stories were bound to cause Carver's death. Despite his anxieties, Carver’s authorial demise didn’t come until 2009, 21 years following his physical death, when the unedited versions of the What We Talk About stories appeared in a posthumous collection called Beginners. Beginners excises Lish’s excisions, exposing a Raymond Carver at odds with his minimalist identity. The “restored” text also displaces Carver as the sole author of his work. We learn from Carver’s effacement that any cultural construction of an author is an erroneous effigy. Beginners exemplifies how textual restorations deflate cultural myths as they work with original texts to enrich our understanding

Advanced-Beginner Registered Nurses' Perceptions on Growth From Entry LevelMason, Brenda 01 January 2019 (has links)
Many entry-level nurses are not prepared to handle medical emergencies. Although responsible for managing the care of individuals with complex medical conditions, many of these nurses compromise the safety of patients due to a lack of experience and an inability to apply clinical judgment. The purpose of this study was to explore the perceptions of registered nurses about their transition from entry-level to advanced beginner. Bandura's social cognitive theory, along with Colaizzi's descriptive method of data analysis, provided a basis for this phenomenological study. Research questions focused on challenges that entry-level nurses have experienced with problem-solving and complex patient care that requires advanced critical thinking and the application of clinical judgment. Criterion sampling facilitated recruitment of advanced-beginner RNs, with data collected through semistructured, one-on-one interviews. Data analysis occurred in a series of steps, including extracting and developing meanings from interview transcripts, clustering meanings into description lists, and eliminating outliers. Data analysis revealed 12 major themes aligned with behavior, clinical environment, and personal/cognitive factors. Among the findings were that nurses often felt unsupported, unable to manage conflict, unprepared, unseasoned, inefficient, and unable to lead others effectively. This study was necessary because its findings may provide insights leaders in health services can use to develop strategies to better prepare entry-level nurses to care for individuals with complex medical conditions. Among the implications for positive social change are developing a better tool for the training and advancement of entry-level nurses, consequently improving patient safety and reducing health care costs.

The aim of this investigation was to develop a plan of actions for teaching and/or improving left hand positioning of beginner violin students. The goal was to have a teaching alternative that could help solving musculoskeletal tension, derived from inadequate positioning of fingers, and hand. An experimental study was conducted with six students from the Conservatory of Music and undergraduates of the University of Caldas, Colombia. The investigation was based on four topics: (1) analysis of the initial position of hand, fingers and left arm; (2) teaching of the proposed alternative motor and movement patterns; (3) comparison of the left hand before and after the action plan; and (4) evaluation of the action plan. For data collection during this study, video recording were done before and after the actions. This study was based on the writings of Paul Rolland (1911-1981), Ivan Galamian (1903-1981), Carl Flesch (1873- 1944), Yehudi Menuhin (1916-1999) among others.
