Development of Biodynamic Modules for Forensic Applications

Tuohy, Brent Travis 06 December 2000 (has links)
Work has been done to develop the computer laboratory portion of a course in biodynamic modeling, with particular emphasis towards applications in forensic engineering. Three course modules have been developed which explore the whiplash injury mechanism, pilot ejection and windblast, and gait analysis. These case studies make use of software entitled MADYMO (MAthematical DYnamic MOdeling). Each case study provides the scene, outcome, details, and instructions for setup of the biodynamic model. An "In-House" User's Manual has also been written so that students without previous MADYMO or UNIX experience can become proficient at using the program. Through the case studies presented within this thesis, students will gain insight into injury mechanisms and learn valuable biomechanical modeling tools. / Master of Science

Biodynamic Agriculture: A Valuable Alternative to the Industrial Farming System

Olsen, Eden K 17 May 2014 (has links)
Since the Scientific and Industrial revolutions, advancing technologies and cutting-edge science have enabled our society to continually promote a growing global economy. Industrial growth has increasingly become a top priority for most governments, notably in the agricultural realm. The advances towards agricultural industrialization began in the 17th century and escalated during the Green Revolution, which examined the possibility of using synthetic fertilizers and mechanization in farming to decrease labor and improve yields. Although seen as economically beneficial, the shift from an agrarian lifestyle to industrial farming has created an ecological, economic, and ideological crisis to our modern world. This paper aims to examine the problems associated with agricultural industrialization and investigate whether biodynamic agriculture effectively provides a solution to the problems inherent in both conventional and industrial organic agricultural methodology.

Förbättrad manuell styrning av staplingskran

Wessén, Mikael January 2015 (has links)
This bachelor thesis was written at Swisslog, who had a problem with the manual control of their high-bay pallet stacker crane. The ride was perceived rough and hard to control at lower speeds. The main purpose was to examine the source of the phenomenon and how to solve the problem with both software and hardware. It was also requested to investigate ways to lower production costs of the parts of the crane related to the manual control. The experienced phenomenon is known as biodynamic feedthrough. It refers to the acceleration of the structure affects the body of the operator causing a feedback loop to the input, in this case a joystick. The hand of the operator causes an involuntary control input and making the system unstable and causing an oscillation increasing in amplitude over time. This may be hard or impossible to stop. The proposed solution is a low-pass filter applied at the output of the joystick. This attenuates the sharpest spikes from the joystick control signal and prevents the system from receiving the fast hand movements caused by the acceleration of the crane.

Consequencias ambientais e sociais da atividade agricola : reflexões epistemiologicas sobre a regenerabilidade / Environmental and social consequences of agricultural activity : epistemological reflections about regenerability

Bertalot-Bay, Marco Michele 12 August 2018 (has links)
Orientador: Carlos Roberto Espindola / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Geociencias / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-12T04:18:01Z (GMT). / Abstract: The actual environmental and social question increases the perception of the need to renew scientific paradigms and develop human capacities capable to face actual challenges. Based on the knowledge area of "Environmental Analysis and Territorial Dynamics" from the Geography Program, the present work seeks an epistemological broadening to contribute to aspects of environmental and social regeneration. The present study centers on agriculture due to the simultaneous link it establishes between the Earth (agri) and human being (culture). The structural phenomenology, as a way to knowledge, developed by Goethe and described by Steiner, constitutes the epistemological base and theoretical reference of the present study. Aiming for additional empiric data the present study includes biologic-dynamic agriculture, originated from anthroposophy and the Bairro Demetria, Botucatu, São Paulo state. The present study identifies that one sided tendencies related to modernization process are projected over nature and social relationships causing damage (degeneration). The necessary transformation of actual world-view concepts demands the development of a living thinking capable to promote individual capacities for environmental and social regeneration. Life generates life. It concerns a way of thinking that every normal citizen somehow practices every day on a more or less conscious base, but that actual education and professional training does not consider, contributing to its underdevelopment. / Mestrado / Análise Ambiental e Dinâmica Territorial / Mestre em Geografia

Development of Biodynamic Imaging for Phenotypic Profiling of Living Tissue

Zhen Hua (14227931) 09 December 2022 (has links)

Biodynamic imaging (BDI) is a high-content optical imaging technology based on Fourier-domain digital holography and Doppler spectroscopy of intracellular dynamics. There are three main functions of the BDI technique, which are optical coherence imaging (OCI), motility contrast imaging (MCI) and tissue dynamics spectroscopy (TDS). OCI is related to en face optical coherence tomography (OCT) using partially coherent speckle generated by broad-area illumination with coherence detection through digital holography. MCI provides noninvasive functional imaging by treating intracellular motility as an endogenous dynamic imaging contrast agent. TDS produces broad-band Doppler fluctuation power spectra that contain the ensemble of all intracellular motions by collecting and extracting depth-resolved quasi-elastic dynamic light scattering from inside multicellular living tissue. This thesis presents the development and applications of BDI systems. Doppler spectral clustering analysis is demonstrated when comparing fresh canine lymphoma biopsies and their corresponding flash-Frozen samples. Doppler spectral phenotyping analysis is used to identify a non-predictive phenotype of TDS that shows a systemic red-shift of frequencies. Doppler spectral shift analysis is used to monitor bacterial infection of living tissue.

Customer Perceptions of Organic Certification Standards

Kokic, Damir, Pedersen-Slaatten, Marcus Brando January 2019 (has links)
Along with the organic food market development, two directions within the industry has appeared, the traditional organic farming and the biodynamic organic farming. The thesis aimed to derive at which organic certification of organic food in the Swedish food market is most appropriate to the organic movement, based on customer perceptions of Swedish University students. The thesis looked at KRAV, a certifier of traditional organic farming, and Demeter, a certifier of biodynamic organic farming. A quantitative method was used to gain a deeper understanding of the consumer perceptions of organic certification standards and the comparison of KRAV and Demeter, and which certification consumers preferred. A survey was distributed in order to find out the consumer perceptions. The findings of the thesis were split into two parts, each answering one research question. The first part showed that people adhered to the standards of Demeter, with average means skewed towards their side of the scale. The second part identified five hypotheses to be tested against each other, and found customer confusion to be the main impacting factor of consumer perceptions of organic food standards.

Do pensar ao fazer: perspectivas filosóficas, conceituais e práticas acerca da agricultura biodinâmica no Brasil / From thinking to doing: philosophical, conceptual and practical perspectives on biodynamic agriculture in Brazil

Carlos Eduardo de Souza Lôbo 09 November 2018 (has links)
This dissertation consists of a deepening of knowledge about biodynamic agriculture, with special regard to the path of knowledge that gave rise to it, its main characteristics and its practical development within the Brazilian context. In addition to the bibliographic research about the main themes of this work, which are the conventional agricultural paradigm, the socio-environmental issue in agriculture, anthroposophy, biodynamic agriculture and the Brazilian biodynamic movement, a survey of primary data was also carried out through field research, with immersion in the anthroposophic and biodynamic universe through courses, experiences, conversations and semi-structured interviews that contributed to a better understanding of the development of biodynamic in Brazilian territory. The interviews were conducted between the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018 with ten consultants and thirteen biodynamic farmers in three Brazilian states - Minas Gerais, São Paulo, and Rio Grande do Sul. In view of these objectives and methodological procedures, biodynamic agriculture was approached from its philosophical origin in anthroposophy, going through conceptual aspects, historical and institutional contextualization of the biodynamic movement in Brazil, until arriving at the main questions about its development in this context. Based on the theoretical background and the field research carried out, especially the perspectives that the biodynamic farmers and consultants presented in the interviews, this dissertation was able to identify some of the main challenges and potentials of biodynamic agriculture in Brazilian lands
