Modeling, Simulation and Analysis of a Clinical PET System With GATE Software and Monte Carlo Model

January 2020 (has links)
abstract: Positron emission tomography (PET) is a non-invasive molecular imaging technique widely used for the quantification of physiological and biochemical processes in preclinical and clinical research. Due to its fundamental role in the health care system, there is a constant need for improvement and optimization of its scanner systems and protocols leading to a dedicated active area of research for PET. (Geant4 Application for Tomographic Emission (GATE) is a simulation platform designed to model and analyze a medical device. Monte Carlo simulations are essential tools to assist in optimizing the data acquisition protocols or in evaluating the correction methods for improved image quantification. Using GATE along with Customizable and Advanced Software for Tomographic Reconstruction (CASToR), provides a link to reconstruct the images. The goal of this thesis is to learn PET systems that involve Monte Carlo methods, GATE software, CASToR software to model, simulate and analyze PET systems using three clinical PET systems as a template. Fluorine-18 radioisotope source is used to perform measurements on the modeled PET systems. Parameters such as scatter-fraction, random-fraction, sensitivity, count rate performance, signal to noise ratio (SNR), and time of flight (ToF) are analyzed to determine the performance of the systems. Also, the simulated data are provided as input to CASToR software and Amide's a Medical Image Data Examiner (AMIDE) tool to obtain the reconstructed images which are used to analyze the reconstruction capability of the simulated models. The Biograph Vision PET model has high sensitivity (11.159 cps/MBq) and SNR (12.556) while the Ultra-High Resolution (UHR) PET model has high resolution of the reconstructed image. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Computer Engineering 2020

Silva, Karla Karine de Jesus 25 June 2014 (has links)
This research reflected on the possibilities that the biography offers as a tool to product historical knowledge. To that end, two biographies are taken as object about merchant Delmiro Gouveia (1863-1917), who was from Ceará: Delmiro Gouveia (Testimony to a biographical study), by Adolpho Santos, written in 1947 and published in 1994; and Memories of a relatively well-lived past, however we wish it would never happen (1914-1917), by Lauro Alves de Campos Góes, written in 1962, never published. Gouveia was taken as a symbol of modernization in the Northeast for the regionalist discourse, icon mainly built from the memories produced about him. Owing to this, the current study investigates these two biographical productions about the industrialist, made by those ex-employees, endowed with singularities in relation to others. Aspects like language, style, structure, plot, the time that is described and the time that had been registered, the presence of cultural vestiges, politics and the economy of that time, as well as the relationship between biography and biographers are investigated. Thus, It is intended to understand whither these individual trajectories can be thought as tools to study the life of Delmiro Gouveia and his context.

Taissa Suzane Correia de Souza 10 April 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this dissertation is to analyse the period in which Garrett was in Brussels (1834-1836) as in Charge of Foreign Affairs and General Consul of Portugal. For this, will be taken based on the books Garrett Memorias Biographicas (1881-1884) of Francisco Gomes de Amorim and A Lua de Bruxelas (2000) of Amadeu Lopes Sabino. These works show the financial difficulties of Garrett, due to the contempt of the portuguese government. The biography is marked by the Amorims moulded discourse, because of the strong friendship that he had with Garrett, his father literary. Sabino presents a novel centered at this space of time, combining historical narrative, biographical facts and fiction. Thus, in this work, the discourses are compared, explaining the specific tone of each other: both have the intellectuals relations with the country and the society, in a time of great changes. However, Amorim polish things and make silence about some events, mainly related to the marriage of Garrett. Sabino support this relationship with Garretts wife (Luísa Midosi) as a content of this documented novel, basing it exactly from what Amorim leaves a riddle

Felte Bezerra : um quartel de atividades lítero-científicas

Silva, Anna Karla de Melo e 27 March 2014 (has links)
No man is dead until that the last man who knew him has died. (Jorge Luis Borges) Felte Bezerra is one of those men who immortalized himself by writing, by the memory of his contemporaries who shared his trajectory implicit in Sergipe and Rio de Janeiro; by the narrative of the historian that search about him. In this way, the writing of this narrative aimed to build the trajectory of Sergipe teacher Felte Bezerra and his contributions to the Higher Education of Sergipe. Tell it without incurring the biographical illusion of Bourdieu made us dive into the conceptions of Evidential Paradigm of Ginzburg, being able to identify a plurality of events and actions that break with the prospect of perfect linearity and chronology. It was then necessary to look beyond the shoulders of this intellectual and with Chartier it was possible to construct representations of the mosaic that was the life of Felte Bezerra. The dialogue with Borges made us understand that the resumption of a short life opens multiple possibilities in the context of man. Also, for a floorless diving, oral history unveil the |undisclosed|,the |implicit soul|,| the tale of man counted by another memory|. Thus, the multidimensional aspect of the man appears in the first chapter by contrasts and confluences between the explicit desire of Felte Bezerra to be remembered for eternity through their autobiographical records (cradle to grave) and records of his memories made in interviews that pattern aspects of his private life (|tyranny of intimacy|) and in the second chapter a centered look at the actions and contributions of this man for Higher Education in Sergipe. Thus, the thread that wove the biography of Felte Bezerra demonstrated how the public and private man blends to the anthropologist Professor.
