Perceiving Matter in Notes on Space, Undated (Log 3) by André du Bouchet, Fontfroide-le-Haut, Fata Morgana, 2000

Simmons, Sandra 12 1900 (has links)
This study of the graphic field in notes on space, undated (log 3) focuses on how the white emptiness of a page plays a structural role in the articulation of dissociated fragments of notes. According to the criteria of three theorists (Genette, Lapacherie, Baetens), the distinction between non-linear and tabular proves to be non-exclusive in this particular work. Ostensibly, this non-figurative writing instigates interactive contemplation and lends itself to multiple entries, like an object one contemplates from every possible visual perspective without ever constructing a representation or image. The poetic form that du Bouchet explores renders perceptible the latent materiality of all text.

Směnka a reálné možnosti jejího využití v praxi českých bank / The Bill and real possibilities of its use in the practice of Czech banks

Knéblová, Hana January 2010 (has links)
The thesis on "The Bill and real possibilities of its use in the practice of Czech banks" is focused on the characteristics of bills as a directing and payment instrument and possible ways of its use, taking into account both economic and legal aspects. This work includes a wide range of banking products, in which the bills are used, indicating their advantages and disadvantages too. The conclusion provides justification for attractiveness of bills for the banks, but also the reasons for which it is viewed by public with some skepticism.

Foster Child

In terms of childhood play, toys function and exist on many levels. Each becomes a friend to some and, in some cases, a confidant. Dolls become more than a plastic play-thing and through the eyes of the individual take on a life of their own based upon the user’s own personal experiences. What I deem my creation will inherently change to someone else’s and even to my mood. I aim to offer the ability to create and blur the lines of these creations. My work is self-explorative and tells of the circumstances from my childhood I hold close.

Analysis And Modeling Of Plastic Wrinkling In Deep Drawing

Yalcin, Serhat 01 September 2010 (has links) (PDF)
Deep drawing operations are crucial for metal forming operations and manufacturing. Obtaining a defect free final product with the desired mechanical properties is very important for fulfilling the customer expectations and market competitions. Wrinkling is one of the fatal and most frequent defects that must be prevented. This study focuses on understanding the phenomenon of wrinkling and probable precautions that can be applied. In this study, dynamic &ndash / explicit commercial finite element code is used to simulate deep drawing process. The numerical experiments are compared with NUMISHEET benchmarks in order to verify the reliability of the finite element code and analysis parameters. In order to understand plastic wrinkling, the effect of blank holder force is investigated. Axisymmetrical numerical models of a cup are investigated with different blank holder forces. Wrinkling instability is illustrated in energy diagrams of the process. Effect of anisotropy on wrinkling is also discussed by comparing isotropic and anisotropic numerical experiments with the material as steel. Different drawbead models, both equivalent and physical, are implied to the problem and results are discussed. Besides numerical analysis, experimental verification is also conducted as conventional deep drawing operation by a hydraulic press. This yields to the ability to understand the effect of blank thickness on wrinkling formation through numerical and experimental analyses. The wave formations of different sized blanks with four different thicknesses are illustrated.

SEISMIC REFLECTION BLANK ZONES IN THE ULLEUNG BASIN, OFFSHORE KOREA, ASSOCIATED WITH HIGH CONCENTRATIONS OF GAS HYDRATE

Stoian, Iulia, Park, Keun-Pil, Yoo, Dong-Geun, Haacke, R. Ross, Hyndman, Roy D., Riedel, Michael, Spence, George D. 07 1900 (has links)
It has recently been recognized that abundant gas hydrates occur in localized zones of upwelling fluids, with concentrations much higher than in regional distributions associated with bottomsimulating reflectors (BSRs). We report a study of multi-channel seismic reflection data across such structures in the Ulleung Basin, East Sea backarc offshore Korea, an area with few BSRs. The structures are commonly up to several km across and a few hundred meters in depth extent, and are characterized by reduced reflectivity and bowed-up sediment reflectors on time-migrated sections. The seismic pull-up mainly results from higher velocities, although physical deformation due to folding and faulting is not ruled out. Some of the features extend upward close to the seafloor and others only partway through the gas hydrate stability zone. The base of gas hydrate stability zone (BGHSZ), calculated assuming a regional average constant heat flow of 110 mW/m2, is confirmed by the presence of gas inferred from reduced instantaneous frequencies and high instantaneous amplitudes, and from a decrease in seismic velocities. The vents are fed by upward migrating free gas or gas-rich fluids through near-vertical conduits probably due to regional, upward fluid flow caused by tectonic compression of the basin.

The fourfold serial killer in Bret Easton Elliss American Psycho / The fourfold serial killer in Bret Easton Elliss American Psycho

Luciano Cabral da Silva 01 April 2015 (has links)
Estas são as quatro faces que pretendo apresentar deste serial killer / The autodiegetic protagonist Patrick Bateman, in Bret Easton Elliss American Psycho (1991), is a troubling character, for he is highly-educated, wealthy and handsome as well as a torturer, a killer and a cannibal. This antagonistic behavior, nonetheless, does not make him a singular character. The four sides he presents throughout the novel are singular, though: (1) he consumes humans and commodities equally; (2) he competes for recognition and admiration; (3) his acts are horrific; and (4) his narration is unreliable. As a yuppie (a popular term from the 1980s used to define young urban U.S. professionals), Bateman is materialistic and hedonistic. As he lives off the excesses of a consumer society, he is incapable of distinguishing people from products. As a self-absorbed, narcissistic protagonist, he becomes a competitor struggling to get approval from his peers. Nevertheless, Bateman is a serial killer, and his detailed descriptions of tortures and murders are horrifying. Finally, we readers cannot rely on his narrative once we notice ambiguities and divergences. Zygmunt Bauman (2009) posits that an extremely capitalist society forces people to be commodified. Christopher Lasch (1991) asseverates that the old legendary Narcissus gave birth to a new one, paradoxical, dependent and less confident. Most of Batemans victims are socially-marginalized characters, members of minority groups, such as homeless people, homosexuals, immigrants, and prostitutes. As a matter of fact, Bateman may be regarded as having a predatory identity, as defined by Arjun Appadurai (2006). However, this autodiegetic narrator, together with his inconsistent narrative, cannot be entirely trusted. These are the points I want to debate regarding this fourfold serial killer

Untersuchung von additiv gefertigten Prägeformen mit graduellen Eigenschaften hinsichtlich ihres Prägeverhaltens

Mohrich, Maximilian 16 July 2021 (has links)
Fantastično v románu Nikdo se nedívá Josého Luíse Peixota / Fantastic in the novel Blank Gaze by José Luís Peixoto

Rubešová, Lucie January 2011 (has links)
The main objective of this thesis is to define narrative scheme and elements of the fantastic in the novel Blank Gaze (Nenhum Olhar, 2000) by a Portuguese writer, José Luís Peixoto. His works have been considered part of the mythic narrative current, which, according to a common definition, often draws attention to deformed values of today's society. For José Luís Peixoto, the fantastic, from a modern perspective, or neofantastic, an alternative means for expressing a need for belief in today's society. This fact becomes the main and timeless legacy of the work, and the reader does not be aware of details of religious rules. After the introduction the thesis focuses on outlining the literary and historical context of contemporary Portuguese prose. The second chapter also pays attention to the biography and bibliography of José Saramago, both politically and ideologically involved author. Similarly to Peixoto, in his works he touches the human essence and presents unconventional reflections about values of present society. The third chapter tries to introduce Peixoto as an autor of Blank Gaze. It also mentions him as the laureate of the 2011 José Saramago Prize - a reward which is awarded to Portuguese writers younger than thirty five. The fourth chapter discusses the beginning and development of...
