German text / In dieser empirischen Untersuchung wird die Leitungskultur der Brüder-Gemeinden im Bund Evangelisch Freikirchlicher Gemeinden (BEFG) in der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik (DDR) dargestellt. Dafür wurden Informationen von Brüdern, die damals in Leitungsverantwortung standen, mittels eines schriftlichen Fragebogens eingeholt. Zusätzlich wurde aus diversen schriftlichen Quellen das Leitungsverständnis der Brüderbewegung in Deutschland während verschiedener Epochen eruiert. Anhand der verschiedenen Ergebnisse wird die Leitungskultur in den Brüder-Gemeinden im BEFG in der DDR kritisch bewertet. Diese qualitative und quantitative empirische Forschung will einen Beitrag zur Erforschung der Brüder-Gemeinden in der DDR leisten. Gleichzeitig zeigt sie auf, wie die Leitung einer christlichen Gemeinde in einem antichristlichen Überwachungsstaat funktioniert hat. / This empirical study will show the style of leadership in the Brethren church of the “Bund Evangelisch Freikirchlicher Gemeinden” (BEFG) in the former German Democratic Republic (GDR). Information was obtained from brothers, who held a managing position during this time, by answering a written questionnaire. Studies of source material as well as thematic analyses were realized as part of this research to show an overall view of the understanding of leading the Brethren Church of BEFG in Germany in different epochs. The style of leadership will be critically evaluated based on the different results. This quantitative and qualitative study will not only contribute to the research of the BEFG in the former GDR but will also show how the leading of a parish in an antichristian surveillance state worked. / Philosophy and Systematic Theology / M. Introduced diploma thesis John Heartfield's stay in Czechoslovakia 1933-1938 deals with artistic creation and stay of the origin German artist John Heartfield in Prague from 1933 till 1938 which had become his haven after Hitler's after Hitler's takeover of power. This thesis analyses Heartfield's work in Czechoslovakia, from creating photomonages and political caricatures, which he was publishing in workers newspapers, Arbeiter-Illustrierte Zeitung and Volks-Illustrierte, move of berliner publisher The Malik to Prague, participation in the Oskar Kokoschka Bund, to book covers for Czech publishers or his participations in Prague exhibitions like International exhibition caricatures and humour or International exhibition of photography. Provided historical-cultural analysis also examines other Heartfield's activities linked with his Prague stay. These are his relationship to Czechoslovakia formed by artistic, social and working contacts with Czech leftist orientated intellectuals and artists and reflections his works in Czech environment. Heartfields fruitful stay in Czechoslovakia was ended in a hurry thanks to occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1938 and by his moving into exile in London.

It is not generally known that a pro-Nazi organization, the German-American Bund, held sway among certain segments of American society during the 1920s and 1930s. The organization achieved its greatest successes after the self-proclaimed "American Fuehrer," Fritz Julius Kuhn, took up the reigns of leadership in 1936. Under Kuhn's leadership, the Bund saw a dramatic increase in its membership rolls; it is estimated that over 25,000 dues-paying members belonged to this first-ever National Socialist organization created outside the environs of Nazi Germany. This thesis explores reasons why this blatantly pro-Nazi organization thrived in the bastion of democracy. While most historians attribute other reasons for the Bund's success, this thesis argues that it was the outstanding organizational skills of Kuhn that kept the movement alive in the years prior to World War II. / by Eliot A. Die Arbeit untersucht die Faktoren, welche das Engagement ostdeutscher Jugendlicher in einem Umweltverband fördern bzw. behindern. Im ersten Teil werden Ergebnisse aus der Umweltpsychologie und Umweltsoziologie, der Forschung zur Umweltbewegung in Ostdeutschland, der Jugendforschung, der Partizipationsforschung, der Sozialisationsforschung sowie der Forschung zu sozialen Bewegungen und zu bürgerschaftlichem Engagement ausgewertet. Anschließend werden die Ergebnisse einer Fallstudie über Gruppen der "Jugend im Bund für Umwelt und Naturschutz Deutschland" (BUNDjugend) in ostdeutschen Bundesländern präsentiert. Auf der Basis von Daten aus Gruppendiskussionen, Einzelinterviews und teilnehmender Beobachtung wurden mit Hilfe der Grounded Theory - Methodik theoretische Annahmen entwickelt. Die zentrale These lautet: In den Jugendgruppen findet unter günstigen Bedingungen ein Sozialisationsprozess statt, der zu einer Identifikation mit dem Umweltengagement führt. Zwölf wichtige Einflussfaktoren auf diesen Prozess werden herausgearbeitet und im Einzelnen beschrieben. / The Ph.D. thesis investigates the factors influencing participation in an environmental organization by East-German youth. First, results of research on youth, social movements, political participation and environmental consciousness are summarized. Then, results of a study about the East German branch of the German environmental youth organization "BUNDjugend" are presented. The study collects qualitative data via group discussions, interviews and participant observation. The data are analyzed according to the "Grounded Theory" method in order to develop theoretical assumptions. The core thesis is: In environmental youth groups, young people experience a socialization process which leads to identification with this type of activism. The form of this process depends on several facilitating or hindering factors, of which twelve are described in detail.
