Återetablering av personligt varumärke inom cancel kulturen : En kvalitativ innehållsanalys inom kriskommunikation och strategisk kommunikation om hur Paolo Roberto och Alexander Bard försöker återetablea sig efter att ha blivit cancelled / Re-establishment of personal branding in cancel culture : A qualitative content analysis within crisis communication and strategic communication about how Paolo Roberto and Alexander Bard try to re-establish after being cancelled

Byman, Jacob, Kamruddin, Qais January 2022 (has links)
The increase in digitalisation of society and the growth of the internet has increased the development and activity of the media. People who are active in media create a personal brand with a goal to portray positive connections to themselves in order to attract opportunities. If the person behaves or says something controversial they face a risk of getting canceled. Cancel culture is a term that is researched in this paper and indicates that a person has made a mistake. This leads to the person being hung out in public, meaning a negative image for the personal brand. By getting canceled the person gets fired from their job or removed from a specific environment. The purpose of this study is to analyze how two Swedish celebrities use personal branding as a strategy to reestablish themselves in the media using crisis- and strategic communication within today's cancel culture. Using a qualitative research method with a focus on strategic and crisis communication this study uses a hermeneutic method based on interpretation to analyze the specific strategies that Paolo Roberto and Alexander Bard uses when trying to reestablish themselves.  The study analyzes Alexander Bard and Paolo Robertos communication on social media platforms and oral interviews on the Swedish channel TV4 after being fired for their behavior. The study examines the use of strategies by Roberto and Bard in their communication. The empirical data is based on the interviews with TV4 and posts on social media regarding the incident that got Bard and Roberto canceled. It was found that Roberto and Bard used two different types of communication strategies when trying to reestablish themselves after being canceled and this study examines if their strategies were successful or not. The study answers the question on how personal branding can be used as a method to reestablish a brand after being canceled.

"J.K. Rowling Spent Her Saturday Pissing Off The Internet" : - En diskursanalys om cancelkultur i mediaartiklar kring J.K. Rowling.

Lindmark, Hanna, Driving, Henrietta January 2022 (has links)
This study examines the phenomena of cancel culture, and the cancellation of author J.K Rowling during June 2020. Cancel culture is a world spread phenomenon which is widely discussed and has been heavily criticized for limiting the freedom of speech as well as embraced for creating a way for marginalized groups to influence the public debate. The aim is to analyze the cancellation process of Rowling through articles and discourse, and answering the question; How is cancel culture expressed in articles regarding the case of J.K Rowling?  The study’s theoretical framework is based on Michel Foucault’s theories on discourse, power and knowledge and is closely connected with the methodological approach, a Foucauldian discourse analysis. The analyzed units consist of a selection of nine articles regarding the specific case.  The analysis resulted in three main themes; Actors and power relations, Presentation of norms, and Presentations of J.K Rowling, through which the cancellation process is analyzed. The conclusions can be summarized as follows: cancel culture takes its form in the articles by presenting Rowling mainly negatively, expressing why her standpoints are problematic, as well as challenging existing power structures. At the same time the results reveal that a cancellation is complex and can take form in different ways.  Our contribution to the research field is to provide further understanding for the specific case. Hopefully our results, in combination with other studies, can contribute to deeper understanding of the phenomena of cancel culture.

Lord Byron's Scandals and Contemporary Cancel Culture

Jorge, Kathleen Anne 28 September 2023 (has links)
The following is a case study in contemporary cancel culture through three cases of it in the nineteenth century. Lord Byron, Lady Caroline Lamb, and Harriet Beecher Stowe serve as three prominent cases of cancel culture in their time period that are all closely linked to one another. Cancel culture changes the way that we study these figures and their writing in the modern day. This shows that although we believe that cancel culture is a new phenomenon with the rise of social media that is not the case. Cancel culture has been happening through time as a way for the public to enact social justice without getting the court involved. Cancel culture is a lesson in the public court of opinion. / Master of Arts / The following is a case study in contemporary cancel culture through three cases of it in the nineteenth century.

Fürst, Anna-Karin January 2023 (has links)
The concept of cancel culture has become an increasingly widespread phenomenon, mainly within social media. The purpose of the study is to investigate what the cancellation phenomenon means and whether it has any impact on the social debate, in the form of possibly inhibiting the individual's way of expressing themselves, in fear of going outside the normative framework. The study's research questions are; How can the concept of cancel culture be described? How is the way individuals express themselves affected by the cancel culture that prevails on social media? This is a qualitative study where an abductive approach was used. Semi-structured interviews were conducted where participants were selected via convenience sampling. The collected empirical evidence was then analyzed via thematic analysis. The study's theoretical framework consists of Gidden's structuring theory and Goffman's stigma. Through his theory, Giddens helps to better understand cancel culture as a social process, while Goffman's analysis of stigma helps to understand and analyze how individuals can experience cancel culture on an individual level. The result of the study showed that the widespread cancellation phenomenon can have varying effects as it clearly takes a stand on what is not considered an acceptable act, while at the same time it can affect the extent to which individuals choose to express themselves and thus be seen as inhibiting. However, it became clear that it cannot be demonstrated that the cancel culture would lead to individuals not daring to stand up for their opinion and what they consider to be right and wrong in a situation. / <p>2023-06-01</p>

Yttrandefrihetens fiende eller ansvarstagandets främjare? : En kvalitativ studie om hur cancel culture framställs i svenska kvällstidningar

Molin, Emelie, Andersson, Josefine January 2024 (has links)
Denna uppsats undersöker hur cancel culture framställs i svenska kvällstidningar.

The verification of user identity is a faced daily problem to people or system that authorize the acess of people taking account the physical and document characteristics. However, efforts need to be spend to resolve related questions to accuracy of verification system and in the falsification of objects and personal information. Thus, biometrics proposes minimize and resolve these difficulties.Unfortunately, the substitution of biometric traces in the case of compromise is difficult.Hence, the use of non-invertible functions is proposed to distort the biometric traces.Consequently, this procedures allows that biometric templates becomes cancelable or revocable. This thesis analysis some solution to user verification using cancelable behavioural biometrics. The analysed solutions are based on the use of single classifiers and ensemble system to resolve the user verification problem. In addition, this thesis analysis the use of multiple cancelable templates using ensemble system (Multiple-Privacy Protection Schemes). This thesis also presents a discussion of key impact in a cancelable function. Thus, we show a empiric study of use of single or different key values to enrolled users. Moreover, a study of the impact of key length is discussed based on the accuracy of biometric system.Based on the results, it is discussed the generation and storage of cancelable keys in mobile devices. In summary, we have demonstrated that the use of a transformation function usually provides similar or better performance than Original biometric data, except in BioHashing function. In addition, the use of multiple protected templates processed by ensemble system outperformed the previous results in single classifiers and ensemble system. Moreover, we showed that biometric system with cancelable templates preserves the user privacy, i.e, it provides lower False Acceptance and False Rejection Errors in Unknown Key attacks and similar performance to unprotected biometric samples in Known Key Attacks.Based on key length experiments, we observe a perceptible continuous improvement when the key increases in Interpolation and BioHashing method in both key knowledge attacks. In contrast, Double Sum have minor improvements but the most important is the performance does not decrease when the key increases. In conclusion, based on our findings, we proposes the use of a key generated by system to authenticate users in mobile devices using cancelable biometric templates.

Cancelling the Callouts : The ‘Dramageddon’ of 2019 and the Effects of Cancel Culture Online

Mitrofan, Francesca January 2020 (has links)
The guiding questions of this thesis aim to target particularities of ‘call out’ or ‘cancel’ culture - an internet phenomenon primarily dominant through social media - and fill in gaps within the literature pertaining to such online culture. Although adhering to the digital sphere, its repercussions beyond the screen are observed through the ‘dramageddon’ of 2019, the cancellation events of YouTuber influencer James Charles. This thesis seeks out to apply participatory culture and symbolic interaction theories as well as accompanying concepts through a qualitative approach. The data collected consists of a blend of media content analysis of Twitter posts known as ‘receipts’ and interviews with three YouTubers as well as a Social Media expert. The results depict cancel culture to be associated with expected themes of justice, resentment, drama or entertainment value and group mentality as well as the offline ramifications. Unexpected themes also surface during data collection and will be further explored. Concluding remarks of this essay concern a summary of discussed implications of cancel culture from the view of netizens as well as suggestions for future prevention of such events.

Vårnäs, Felicia January 2020 (has links)
