Be means of the life histories of Bolivians established in São Paulo, their expectations, dreams, strategies, networks and processes of insertion in the society of São Paulo, the relations and tensions present in these e/immigrants' everyday lives, often undocumented, are unveiled. Multiple experiences were reported in the statements, enabling to discuss the cultural traces and the identities recreated in this process, besides the marks left not only in the protagonists, but also in the space and in the history of the city of São Paulo. Thus, upon analysis of events organized and/or attended by Bolivians (religious, sport or celebrations), we seek to discuss the perspectives and tensions: acceptance in the reception society, negative stereotypes and search for social and economic recognition inside and outside the network. This way, praying, celebrating and expressing joy are observed as strategic to break negative images regarding the group, focused on the exploration of labor in the sewing business / Esta investigação aborda as trajetórias de e/imigrantes bolivianos em São Paulo no período de 1980 a 2000 e apoia-se nos estudos da História social e cultural para trazer contribuições sobre esses fluxos.

\'A fundação do Acre\': um estudo sobre comemorações cívicas e abusos da história / \'The foundation do Acre\': a study in civic celebrations and abuses of history

Eduardo de Araújo Carneiro 20 October 2014 (has links)
The present dissertation analyses the political and symbolical role of civic commemorations and celebration dates related to the annexation of Acre to Brazil as well as the historical truth of the celebrated events. The mobilization of epic narratives in civic celebrations is very common in the Western World, from the antiquity to the present. In this way, the civic commemorations in Acre were studied as part of that millenary tradition. The re-reading of Acres historical formation was pursued from the perspective of Acres situation in the Amazonia region and its insertion within the capitalist world economy. Information about Acre were found in newspapers, documents and books located at the collections of the National Library (Biblioteca Nacional - RJ), Rubber Museum (Museu da Borracha - AC), e Department of Historical Heritage of Acre (Departamento de Patrimônio Histórico do Acre DPHAC). The Florestan Fernandes Library (FFLCH/USP) offered bibliographical resources to support the theoretical approach of this dissertation .This research exemplify an emphasis on the qualitative method. A partial conclusion lead by this work is that civic celebrations in Acre had fulfilled the same political role as it does in the Western World forging identities and social cohesion, promoting chauvinism, spreading values and traditions to validate the present. Following an anti-commemoration historiographical contemporary tendency, this dissertation also concludes that the epic narrative presented by the supporters of the civic commemorations can be considered dishonest, abusive and irresponsible. That is because it reproduces a representation of the past not according the reality of the historical facts, and because it has always been committed with the persistence of Acrean status quo

Centennial Celebrations in Toronto-area Schools

Hamilton, Melanie 11 December 2009 (has links)
This thesis investigates and analyzes certain significant aspects of the Centennial celebrations of 1967 as they took place in Toronto-area schools. By considering the Centennial activities involving art, travel, music and historical pageantry—those deemed most significant by educational planners—I propose to evaluate how students, and Canadians in general, were thinking and learning about Canada and its people at the time. Throughout this essay, I argue that the Centennial celebrations are crucial evidence of a developing shift in the way that Canadians conceived of national identities and a change in how students were educated about Canadian history. In particular, I will argue that the Centennial celebrations in Toronto-area schools often demonstrated the continued development of a post-imperial vision of Canada’s national character, and an approach to history education which moved beyond the traditional timeline-oriented and British nation-building narratives that dominated early-twentieth-century Canadian education.

Salvi, Greta 12 June 2013 (has links)
In the Triennium 1796-1799 took place the short life of the Cisalpine Republic, one of the political units founded by Napoleon Bonaparte during the Italian Campaign. This work studies the theatrical culture and the performing aspects which characterized the Cisalpine Republic and particularly its capital, Milan, in that historical juncture. The thesis asserted here is about the use of performing practices as an instrument of popular education and spreading of the principles of the 1789 Revolution. This aim was pursued by both French authorities and Italian pro-Revolution patriots. This work tackles three main points: the architectural and urban changes which affected Milan during the Triennio (Triennium), the theory and practice of theatre, the public celebrations. The cultural relations between Italy and France have been investigated with special attention. This study is based on some documents kept in archives and libraries of Milan and Paris, such as printed editions of theatrical plays, records of celebrations, correspondence and periodicals from the age of the Cisalpine Republic.

La cultura di miniera nelle Alpi : autorappresentazione della categoria professionale dei minatori / La culture de la mine dans les Alpes : Italie, Autriche, Suisse, France : étude comparative d'autoreprésentation d'une catégorie professionnelle en perspective synchronique et diachronique / Mine culture in the Alps : self-representation of the miners

Armano, Linda 11 February 2011 (has links)
