A comparison of University of Central Florida students on religious bigotry and related variablesHyman, Benjamin H. 01 January 2010 (has links)
This research will assess religious prejudice among several religious groups (Christians, Jews, Muslims, and Non-Believers) toward one another in addition to assessing underlying attitudes such as openness to contact with diverse others, self- acceptance, empathy, right-wing authoritarianism, and social dominance orientation. It is hypothesized that attitudes such as openness to contact, self-acceptance, and empathy will correlate and have a lower correlation with religious prejudice; while right-wing authoritarianism and social dominance orientation will correlate and have a higher correlation with religious prejudice. In addition, prejudice among all groups is to be expected. The aim of this descriptive study is to reveal a general prejudice level of religious groups, prejudicial attitudes of one's group toward an out-group, and the extent to which a group feels they have experienced prejudice.

The impact of religious conversion on cultural identity conversion story South African Anglican Indian ChrstiansJohn, Arun Andrew 28 February 2007 (has links)
The impact of religious conversion on cultural identity is a study of conversion story
of South African Indian Anglican Christians rooted in the oppressive history of
casteism in India and Racism in South Africa.
This study has used multi discipline approach using various schools of human
sciences and broader theological framework in dealing with moral and ethical issues.
This study defends the religious conversions and highlights the impact it has made on
cultural identity of converts from social, economic, psychological and spiritual
perspectives.
While highlighting the positive impact of religious conversion on cultural identity this
study has also pointed out some ambiguities attached to this process.
This study looks into the possibilities of Native and Indian Christians working
together to create a healing culture in South Africa. An attempt is made to point out
the interrelatedness of the experiences of suffering of Native Christians and Indian
Christians from indentured backgrounds in South Africa.
This study does not cover disparity issues between native Africans and the Indian
Community in South Africa. However, an attempt is made to encourage Indian
Christians in South Africa to connect with the pain and pathos of poor communities in
South Africa. This study encourages the Indian Christians hi South Africa to read
Dalit theology and get involved with Black theologians in formulating appropriate
mission praxis for their mission and ministry in post apartheid South Africa.
This study concludes on a positive note and hope based on my eight years of ministry
in Lenasia. During my ministry I had experienced that South African Anglican Indian
Christians and native Christians have the developing ability and capacity to become a
spiritual resource in building a transformed and transforming society in South Africa.
I could see in them a reconciled 'wounded healers' and for me this is a powerful
impact of religious conversion on their cultural identity, "Victims' now have the
capacity to act as 'Wounded Healers'. / Religious Studies & Arabic / D.Th. (Religious Studies)

Women in Christian leadership : an empirical study of "Youth With A Mission", GermanyHornstra-Fuchs, Franziska Anna Sabine 02 1900 (has links)
In formal statements, the international organization Youth With A Mission (YWAM) clearly
endorses female leaders. In YWAM Germany, however, women are underrepresented in leadership positions. This dissertation seeks to explain this dearth, especially in terms of the role played by Scripture. By means of interviews with leaders in YWAM Germany, possible answers were explored. Surprising for an evangelical organization, the interpretation of Scripture proved not to be a significant factor. Other factors that emerged are church background, the lack of female role models, lower self-confidence of women, and the role of incumbent leadership. The latter appeared to be the most crucial factor, since incumbent leaders, mostly men, select and appoint new leaders. It is likely that in this they are influenced by stereotypical
conceptions of the leader as male and inclined to prefer those like themselves. / Systematic Theology & Theological Ethics / M. Th. (Theological Ethics)

Anegnôn - Egnôn - Kategnôn. Aspects littéraires de la polémique antichrétienne dans l'Antiquité / Anegnôn - Egnôn - Kategnôn. Literary features of anti-Christian polemics in AntiquityPiscini, Gianluca 13 December 2018 (has links)
This work deals with the fragments of Celsus’ True Discourse, Porphyry’s Against the Christians, Hierocles’ Truthful Discourse to the Christians and Julian’s Against the Galileans. Its purpose is to study the way these anti-Christian treatises use the literary tradition of Antiquity. In the first part, we discuss some problems related to the study of these works. In a second part, we study the polemical use of literary references in these texts. A third part is devoted to ad hominem attacks against biblical characters and against Christians. Finally, a fourth part studies the literary form of these works : the choice of the title and the audience, but also their structure and their literary genre.

Anthropological Expressive Modalities of Disorientation: A Biblical and Pastoral TheologyHarrichand, James 11 1900 (has links)
Recent years have seen a plethora of research accomplished with respect to OT poetic prayers, predominantly in relation to the Psalter, with a least one ramification being a lack of engagement with the full spectrum of expressions especially within OT prosaic prayers. In addition to this, contemporary pastoral literature continues to exhibit an underdevelopment with respect to the full anthropological spectrum of expressions amidst grief especially within intercultural contexts. Observing both lacunas in scholarship, this dissertation operationalizes a Revisionist Method of Mutual Critical Correlation as its metamethod while incorporating Renewed Form Criticism, Hermeneutical Phenomenology, annd a Liberative Intercultural Praxis as it pursues a twofold objective: 1) an examination of the multivalent expressions (i.e., verbal, physical, and emotional) that leading Israelites pray-ers within the ancient context of OT prosaic prayers communicated to/before God while in the crux of disorientation, and 2) an investigation into the multivalent expressions (i.e., verbal, physical, and emotional) that leading Christian pray-ers wtihin an intercultural context (i.e., among Canadian immigrants from Guyana and Vietnam) communicated to/before God amidst the phenomenon of grief. At the heart of attending to this twofold mission is the configuration of an expressive domain of anthropological expressive modalities of disorientation communicated to/before God, along with their essence or meaning. Sensitized to such an expressive domain with its multivalent significance, contemporary pastoral caregivers would thus be better equipped to foster compassionate, liberative intercultural pastoral care for intercultural Christian communities coping with grief.

Negotiating and constructing religious identities in English secondary schools : a study of the reported experiences of adolescent Christians, Jews, and MuslimsMoulin, Daniel Peter James January 2013 (has links)
The increasing diversity of societies is one of the most important educational issues of the globalised era. However, while some attention has been paid to the schooling experiences of racial, ethnic and immigrant minorities in Western societies, little research has been conducted with religious adolescents. This thesis explores the complexities of religious adolescents’ experiences of English secondary schools. As an exploratory study, I employed an emergent research design carrying out loosely-structured, group and single interviews at eleven places of worship to investigate the schooling experiences of 99 adolescent Christians, Jews and Muslims. In order to interpret their reported experiences, I applied a theoretical model based on the Students’ Multiple World Framework in conjunction with concepts of religious identity negotiation and construction. The interview data show how Christians, Jews and Muslims negotiate their religious identities in the context of the numerous challenges presented by secondary schools in a religiously plural and largely secular society. In classroom worlds participants perceived their religious traditions to be distorted, inaccurately or unfairly represented. In peer worlds participants reported that they could experience prejudice, and criticism of their beliefs. Christians, Jews and Muslims reported two principal management strategies in the face of these challenges, either: declaring their religious identity openly, or by masking it in public. The findings of this study are highly relevant to debates about the role of religion in education, including those concerning faith and Church schools and the nature and purpose of the curriculum subject Religious Education.

Jag hade inte förmånen att födas in i sanningen : Tidigare trosuppfattningar och senare omvändelse hos personer som tillhör Jehovas Vittnen / I didn't have the fortune to be born into the truth : a study about Jehovah's Witnesses previous beliefs and later conversionJansson, Tove January 2017 (has links)
This study focuses on the previous beliefs of persons who are active in Jehovas Witnesses. It also focuses on the circumstances which made the person enter the organisation. Seven persons, four women and three men were subjects for my question in this study. The question formulations are as follows: How does the person’s previous beliefs look like? Are there any circumstances which may have made the person enter Jehovas Witnesses? How does the membership in the organisation give the person meaning? The persons are all living in the area of Småland, in south of Sweden. The conclusion is that all of the informants have in some way expressed some sort of faith, weather it consists of a believe in God, a guardian angel or something else.
