Waern, Peder January 2009 (has links)
<p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>This paper intends, through a qualitative study to examine and analyze how a particular type of financial firms cooperate, and what this entails. The case study issue which shall be answered is "What does the firms Credit Suisse and Orn & Cie SA gain out of cooperating with each other?". By setting the general theories in the subject joint ventures, partnerships, against the empirical material gathered via interviews and data collection in Geneva, Switzerland  answers to what the cooperation between the two parties has resulted in for the respective companies has been found. The survey shows that the prevailing model of cooperation creates significant benefits for the two companies. At the same time the existing cooperation has meant more risk taking for both companies in general and especially for the smaller company Orn & Cie SA. The current model of cooperation would lead to serious problems for them if it would fall apart and it is essential that the companies continuously keep working to prevent this.</p>

Kvalitetskontroll av utskrifter från Kodak Approval XP4

Hernandez, Andrea, Bergman, Anders January 2001 (has links)
When using the digital halftone proofing systems, a closer print match can be achieved compared to what earlier couldbe done with the analogue proofing systems. These proofing systems possibilities to produce accurate print match canas well lead to producing bad print matches as several print related parameters can be adjusted manually in the systemby the user. Therefore, more advanced knowledge in graphic arts technology is required by the user of the system. The prepress company Colorcraft AB wishes to control that their color proofs always have the right quality. This projectwas started with the purpose to find a quality control metod for Colorcraft´s digital halftone proofing system(Kodak Approval XP4).Using a software who supports spectral measuring combined with a spectrophotometer and a control bar, a qualitycontrol system was assembled. This system detects variations that lies out of the proofing system´s natural deviation. The prerequisite for this quality control system is that the tolerances are defined with consideration taken to the proofingsystems natural deviations. Othervise the quality control system will generate unnecessecary false alarms and thereforenot be reliable.

Streptococcus pneumoniae : epidemiological, clinical and serological studies

Burman, Lars Å. January 1993 (has links)
A retrospective study of invasive pneumococcal disease in patients from Greater Göteborg in 1964- 1980 identified 125 cases of meningitis, 305 of pneumonia, 61 of septicemia with unknown focus, and 17 with other manifestations, all verified by cultures from normally sterile body fluids. The incidence was several times higher in infants and in the elderly than in any other age-group. A wide variety of underlying conditions were present in 23% of the infants, 34% of the children, and 81% of the adults. In adults alcoholism was known in one third of the cases. The case fatality rate was 24% among patients with underlying conditions and 9% among previously healthy individuals. The case fatality rate was 50% in patients with hospital-acquired infection. Twohundred-fifteen pneumococcal strains, isolated from blood or CSF from 1971 to 1983 at the laboratories of clinical bacteriology of Göteborg, Malmö, and Umeå were serotyped by coagglutination (COA). Of all isolates, 89% belonged to serotypes represented in the 23-valent vaccine. In a separate study COA was compared with counterimmunoelectrophoresis (CIE). COA was found to have several advantages; rapidity, lower cost, and ability to disclose serotypes with neutral charge, which constituted 19% of all strains. In a prospective study the etiology was determined in 196 hospitalized patients with pneumonia, most of them community-acquired. Culture of specimens from blood, transtracheal aspirate (TTA), sputum, and nasopharynx, assays of antigen in sputum, urine, and TTA, and assays of pneumococcal antibodies to capsular polysaccharide, C-polysaccharide, and pneumolysin in paired sera were performed. The etiology was established in 64% of the patients. Streptococcus pneumoniae was the most common agent (32%). In a serological study of patients with pneumococcal infection, diagnosed by culture of CSF, TTA, or blood, IgG antibodies against C-polysaccharide and pneumolysin were determined by ELISA. The diagnostic sensitivity was only 51% and 60%, respectively. In conclusion, invasive pneumococcal disease is strongly overrepresented at tender and high age and in patients with concomitant conditions, notably alcoholism. S. pneumoniae remains a predominant causative agent of community-acquired pneumonia in adults needing hospitalization. Due to the low sensitivity and/or specificity of individual microbiological techniques, a combined use of several techniques is necessary when trying to assess the relative importance of pneumococci and other agents in pneumonia. Extended use of the currently available pneumococcal vaccine and development of improved pneumococcal vaccines seem highly warranted. / <p>Diss. / The study of the synthesis and properties of superparamagnetic nanoparticles is growing up significantly along the years, allowing interaction with many knowledge. The nanoparticles additivation in mineral oils is one of them, for its performance as lubrificants, showing superior tribological properties in comparison with commercial ones, reducing the fricction coefficient and the wear of the mechanical components. The purpose of this research is to study the tribological performance of a parafinic mineral oil additived with superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs), in order to evaluate the influence of the nanoparticles in the tribological properties (fricction coefficient and wear) when exposed to different loads and surface roughnesses differents. The tribotests were using a SRV-4 tribometer. The test parameters were the nanoparticle size (2 nm, 7 nm e 15 nm), the surface roughness, in this case polished, sanded and grounded, and the applied load steps over time (30 N ? 250 N). The nanoparticles characterization was conducted by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Physical Property Measurement System (PPMS). About the pure oil characterization and the ferroluids, was performed by FTIR. The fricction coefficient values were obtained during the tribotest in the SRV-4 tribometer. Furthermore, the AISI 52100 stell ball wear and AISI H13 steel disc wear were analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Raman Spectroscopy and White Light Interferometry (WLI), using the results obtained for pure oil as references. The SPIONs best results as antifriction additive were obtained with the low loads (30 N and 50 N) and with the rough surface (Ground).

ABSTRACT The aim of the present study was to describe the development of an unpublished SPR-based immunosensor for detection of anti-T. cruzi antibodies in human serum through the covalently immobilized T. cruzi antigen on a mixed SAM of 11-mercaptoundecanoic acid (11-MUA) and 3-mercaptopropionic acid (3-MPA) on a SPR sensor chip. In its construction, the concentrations of each alkanethiol, and the proportion of each in the composition of the mixed SAMs were defined by calculation of surface coverage Subsequently, the antigen at different concentrations was immobilized on the activated mixed SAMs built on gold disc, and the change in the SPR angle (??SPR) resulting from this step was monitored in real time. The imunosensor developed was electrochemically characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and the responses of a pool of sera from individuals infected and not infected with T. cruzi were also evaluated. Then, some parameters for the optimization of the device were defined, including immobilization time and antigen concentration, blocking and regeneration of the sensor surface and time involved in the analysis of the immunoassay. Finally, the working dilution of the serum and the cut-off point were chosen and the performance indices of the technique were calculated using 171 sera - 99 individuals infected with T. cruzi, 30 not infected and 42 with other infections. The highest values ??of ? were found for the 1.0 mmol L-1 concentration of 11-MUA and 3-MPA and mixed SAMs formed at 1:10 proportion. The immobilization of antigens was conducted successfully, so there was linearity between the concentration used and ??SPR. For VC and EIS has been demonstrated that covalent attachment of the protein increased the electron transfer resistance when compared with the behavior of the electrochemical probe on the mixed SAMs. Furthermore, imunosensor showed, similarity to ELISA, capable of detecting anti-T. cruzi in sera diluted up 1280 times. In relation to the negative sera, the device detected significant ??SPR only until dilution 1:160, which demonstrated the ability of the method to distinguish infected from uninfected individuals. The following analytical parameters were defined: time of immobilization and antigen concentration at 20 minutes and 30 mg mL-1, blocking surface for 10 minutes with 1.0% BSA solution, regeneration by injection of 1.0% SDS and time evaluation of the response of the device in 20 minutes. The serum dilution at 1:320 and cut-off point at 17.2 m? were the methodological criteria for immunoassay. The performance indices calculated for the imunosensor demonstrated a great potential in serological diagnosis of Chagas' disease, with a sensitivity of 100%, specificity of 97.2%, positive predictive value of 98%, negative predictive value of 100% and global accuracy estimated in 99.6%. The number of cross-reactivity with sera from individuals with visceral leishmaniasis was lower (1/7) than in ELISA (6/7). Based on the results, it is possible to stay that a sensitive, specific, rapid, simple and easy immunosensor was successfully with potential application at serological diagnosis of Chagas disease.

Disserta??o (Mestrado) ? Programa de P?s-Gradua??o em Ci?ncia Florestal, Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri, 2016. / This study aimed to develop procedures for in vitro propagation of Eremanthus incanus and control the vitrification in explants during cultivation. Five experiments were carried out, involving the stages of germination, multiplication and stretching. In experiment 1, we evaluated the influence of culture medium MS and WPM (25, 50, 75 and 100% of salts and vitamins) in the percentage of germination and height, number of leaves and dry weight of the produced seedlings. The experiments 2, 3 and 4 treatments consisted of two types of containers (test tubes and culture vials) and four types of sealing (PVC film, cellophane, micropore tape and specific covers). In experiment 2, we evaluated the influence of the containers and sealing forms on the percentage of germination and contamination, height, number of leaves and dry weight of seedlings. In experiment 3, we evaluated the number of shoots and vitrification in explants in multiplication phase in three subcultures. In the experiment 4, the elongation phase was assessed according to the containers and sealing forms in relation to height variables, vitrification and dry matter weight. In experiment 5, four concentrations of BAP and TDZ were tested and the number of shoots, vitrification and callus were evaluated in two subcultures. In experiment 1, the culture medium WPM75 had the highest percentage of germination, while the MS75 medium showed higher height and number of leaves, and the WPM100 presented the greater weight of dry matter. In experiment 2, the combinations tube + tape, PVC pipe + tube and PVC + vial provided the highest percentage of germination, while the lowest percentage of contamination were observed in the treatments tube + tape and tube + cover. The tube combination tube + cellophane showed higher height and dry matter weight, and vial + PVC larger number of leaves. It was observed in the experiment 3, in relation with the number of sprouts, that in the subculture 1 the combination vial + cellophane was superior, while in subcultures 2 and 3 the treatment tube + cellophane stood out. For vitrification, in subculture 1 the combination tube + cover showed the lowest vitrification, in subculture 2 the treatments tube + PVC tube and cover + tube stood out, and in subculture 3 the best treatment was tube + cellophane. In the elongation phase (Experiment 4), the combination tube + cellophane showed the highest average height of explants. In the three subcultures, there was no vitrification in combination vial + cellophane, also being observed in this combination the greater weight of dry matter. In experiment 5, treatment 0.75 mg L-1 BAP had the highest number of shoots in the two subcultures. For vitrification, in both subcultures, BAP presented plants with lower vitrification. In conclusion, for the germination of Eremanthus incanus seeds, WPM medium with 75% of salts and vitamins is the most suitable, while for crop establishment the best medium is MS 75%. The type of container and sealing influence the multiplication, on elongation and vitrification of explants, being that the combination of the test tube container with transparent cellophane sealing provided, in general, the best results. When comparing the cytokinins BAP and TDZ in proliferation it is indicated 0.75 mg L-1 BAP. Further studies involving the in vitro propagation must be carried out, mainly related to steps of rooting and acclimatization to consolidate a methodology for E. incanus.
