Johansson, Felicia January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine and compare what causes some municipalities to work with and market their sustainability work in circle economy and what causes some other municipalities not to do so. The study focused on six municipalities, three who worked with and marketed their sustainability work and three who didn’t. Through telephone interviews a representative from each municipalitiey answered; how they defined circular economy, what drove/not drove them to work with circular economy, what difficulties there is with circular economy in the public sector and how the municipalities work can be improved. The results showed that the definition of the economic model was about the same, what differed was their knowledge about the importance of product design. Knowledge and interest in circular economy was two of the causes of why municipalities worked with the model. The fact that the issue was not a priority and the lack of resources from politicians seemed to be two determining factors of why the municipalities’ interest in working with circular economy was small. Sweden’s government needed to act in the question and focus more on top-down instead on today’s down-top work. The municipalities needed to get guidelines and support to make decisions that promoted circular economy since it was an important part of a sustainable development.

Sjöberg, Emma January 2018 (has links)
The current linear “take, make and dispose” economic model is not sustainable, therefore we need to move towards a circular economy. The society faces a major challenge and as experts and advisors to the society, the consultancy companies play a key role in the transition. The purpose of this study was to investigate how a consultancy company work with the circular economy concept today and how the concept further can be integrated into the company to meet future challenges. Qualitative interviews with eleven representatives from the consultancy company Ramboll were made. All the interviews were recorded and the collected data was analyzed in a qualitative analysis. The results showed a high awareness of the circular economy concept and that Ramboll can offer customers help in their progress towards a circular economy. The demand of circular services is currently low but it will probably increase in the future, both with respect to existing services but also new types of assignments. To meet the future demand the company needs to ensure knowledge within the company, raise awareness and concretize the concept throughout the company. The Nordic countries have an opportunity to be the forerunner in the transition to a circular economy but to do so, one must focus on the issue. If Sweden seriously starts to strive for a circular economy, much help and support will be needed and the consulting companies can be very helpful if they are prepared and have the competence.

Topanotti, Daniel Rodrigues January 2017 (has links)
This dissertation will analyze an investigative approach to the teaching of trigonometric functions that prioritizes the understanding of the relation between circular movements at different speeds with the graphical formation generated by these movements. With the help of the software Geogebra, different movements were created, which provided the graphic investigation by the students. The activity was carried out in the computer lab where, constantly, there was investigation by the students and significant interventions by the teacher. For this research, a qualitative analysis based on the descriptive process of the actions taken in the classroom was chosen. To know the characteristics of this approach, a case study was used. Circular RNA Characterization and Regulatory Network Prediction in Human Tissue

January 2018 (has links)
abstract: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a class of endogenous, non-coding RNAs that are formed when exons back-splice to each other and represent a new area of transcriptomics research. Numerous RNA sequencing (RNAseq) studies since 2012 have revealed that circRNAs are pervasively expressed in eukaryotes, especially in the mammalian brain. While their functional role and impact remains to be clarified, circRNAs have been found to regulate micro-RNAs (miRNAs) as well as parental gene transcription and may thus have key roles in transcriptional regulation. Although circRNAs have continued to gain attention, our understanding of their expression in a cell-, tissue- , and brain region-specific context remains limited. Further, computational algorithms produce varied results in terms of what circRNAs are detected. This thesis aims to advance current knowledge of circRNA expression in a region specific context focusing on the human brain, as well as address computational challenges. The overarching goal of my research unfolds over three aims: (i) evaluating circRNAs and their predicted impact on transcriptional regulatory networks in cell-specific RNAseq data; (ii) developing a novel solution for de novo detection of full length circRNAs as well as in silico validation of selected circRNA junctions using assembly; and (iii) application of these assembly based detection and validation workflows, and integrating existing tools, to systematically identify and characterize circRNAs in functionally distinct human brain regions. To this end, I have developed novel bioinformatics workflows that are applicable to non-polyA selected RNAseq datasets and can be used to characterize circRNA expression across various sample types and diseases. Further, I establish a reference dataset of circRNA expression profiles and regulatory networks in a brain region-specific manner. This resource along with existing databases such as circBase will be invaluable in advancing circRNA research as well as improving our understanding of their role in transcriptional regulation and various neurological conditions. / Dissertation/Thesis / Appendix file containing list of enriched pathways and functions identified in Chapter 4 / Doctoral Dissertation Biomedical Informatics 2018

Circular economy at micro level : A case study of how a micro business in thefashion industry can act to close the loop.

Claeson Holmgren, Mathilda, Göransson, Tilda January 2018 (has links)
In Sweden 93% of the existing companies are microbusinesses. Despite this, there is a lack of research on how they can implement circular business models. The purpose of this study is to investigate what prerequisites a micro business within the fashion industry can have to implement a circular business model.   Today’s economic system is supported by linear business models. This means that people buy, use and dispose of goods that may have a potential continuous economic value. Circular business models offer an alternative to the current economic system. They are based on reuse and recycling to upkeep economic value and cut down on byproducts that are harmful to the environment and people.   Earlier research regarding circular economy, innovative business models and framework are presented in this study. Unstructured interviews with people working actively within fields such as reuse, recycle and eco-design have been held, as well as semi-structured interviews with the production manager and product developer at the case business of this study. The interviews have provided a wide knowledge around what prerequisites and course of action a micro business within the fashion industry can apply, to continue working against a more circular business model. The result of the study show that the micro business can operate in a circular manner, but require complementing activities and technologies regarding take back systems and external adoption factors.
