The present diploma thesis "Claude Simon. Introduction and interpretation" is philosophical interpretation of the novels of the French writer Claude Simon, the Nobel prize winner for literature in 1985, whose work has been in the Czech academic field neglected theme. My interpretation is based on the philosophy of G. Deleuze and according to him I understand Simon's work like a rhizome, that is like decentralized heterogenous links, multiplicities and lines which are not subjects to any structural model. In my interpretation I start with novel Le Vent (The Wind) from 1957, because it's a text in which are being manifest fundamental themes of Simon's poetic such as are event nature of the fiction world or the lost of transcendence and its transformation into immanence of life affairs. The analysis of the novel Le Vent makes possible to pass continuosly and frequently to Simon's other novels (Histoire, Les Gèorgiques, Le Palace, L'Herbe, La Route des Flandres). The aim of the diploma thesis is to reach coherent interpretation of the Simon's work.

I denna uppsats har arrangörens roll och hur förhållandet mellan arrangemang och original ser ut diskuterats. Syftet har varit att ge förslag på hur man kan genomföra arrangemang av verk som generellt skulle kallas ”oarrangerbara”. Utgångspunkten har varit att studera möjligheterna vid arrangering av sång till instrument, närmare bestämt första satsen ur Claude Debussys sångcykel Ariettes Oubliées, där texten försvinner. Genom att dra en parallell till litterära översättningsmetoder har bl.a. begreppet ”transcreation” diskuterats, och sedan kopplats in i diskussionen om musikaliska arrangemang. Arrangemang av Franz Liszt har även studerats för att ge bredare inblick i hur tidigare arrangemang skapats. En alternativ metod användes, som innebar att röst och saxofon definierades som två olika språk, för att kunna dra en liknelse till ”transkreativ översättning”. Sångstämman modifierades till en saxofonstämma, och melodik i sångstämman reducerades för att ta bort det ”lager” som skapats när melodi var knuten till text. Från denna modifiering kunde nya musikaliska motiv bildas och utvecklas. Detta förlängde styckets form och längd som helhet, men bidrog också till att förstärka de musikaliska riktningar som fanns i originalet. Även pianostämman anpassades för att stärka sitt samband med saxofon istället för röst, vilket ledde till bl.a. dynamiska och melodiska modifikationer. Resultatet blev ett arrangemang som utöver sin direkta koppling till ett original samtidigt kunde sägas vara oberoende från detta ursprung.

This study explores the potential of semiotics in the non-visual realm of perfumery, focusing on the work of French perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena. Utilizing Roland Barthes’ three levels of signification as a theoretical framework – as presented in his essay Rhétorique de l’image – it analyzes the linguistic, denotative and connotative aspects of three perfumes created by Ellena for the French luxury house Hermès: Un Jardin en Méditerranée, Un Jardin sur le Nil and Un Jardin Après la Mousson. These fragrances serve as case studies, revealing how Ellena consciously utilizes perfumery raw materials as signifiers, in order to create olfactive illusions corresponding to a given signified. The study argues that these illusions serve as a primary communicative force within perfumery, transcending the sum of their individual parts to evoke olfactory imagery and symbolic meanings. Drawing on Ellena’s method, the analysis highlights the interplay between textual and olfactory meaning-making, engaging the user in an immersive narrative experience. This study aims to contribute to the broader academic discourse surrounding the sensory arts, underlining the potential of semiotics in understanding the symbolic narratives inherent in the art of perfumery.
